A good place for a couple of days in Alston, great views out of a deceptively large room at the rear of the hotel (being an Inn) .A good breakfast and nice bar area with a nice real fire on a cold evening. Staff nice and friendly and would stay again !

I stayed at the Cumberland Hotel for one night B&B as I was working in the area. The Hotel staff were friendly and pleasant. The bedroom was large and comfortable with tea/coffee facilities. Yes, maybe the room and bathroom could do with a spruce up but it was clean and functional. I had a great nights sleep and the breakfast...

Stayed at this hotel with my husband on his birthday. The welcome was warm and inviting, all the staff were lovely and helpful. The bedroom was spotlessly clean and spacious. Lots of lovely touches hot chocolate, toiletries etc in the room. Made our stay very special. The food there was amazing. I couldn't recommend this hotel high enough. Will be...

We came in about 17:00 on Wednesday for dinner. Promptly greeted by the bartender and then it went down hill. He totally ignored us. We should have been wise as the couple next to us (who got sat earlier) got up and left. So we waited, made eye contact with the bartender several times, who was not busy but just...

Big enough bedroom but decor tired in places - peeling wallpaper, tape over tear in lino on floor etc. Good range of real ales on tap and my wife liked her Cumbrian lamb for dinner. Good enough for one night on way north.

We stayed for a Saturday night whilst walking in North Pennines. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had a pleasant meal in the bar. Our room was spacious and bright (room 2). We would happily stay at the Cumberland again

After coming from an unhappy three night weekend stay at a 4 star hotel in County Durham, we approached the Cumberland Hotel with some trepidation. From the outside appearance, we were nervous, but from the moment we entered, our fears melted away. Everything about the hotel was relaxing and homely. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Evening meals...

Went for an evening meal. The Turkey meal was absolutely tasteless, not had such a poor meal in a pub/restaurant for a very long time. Staff were friendly, beer was good, atmosphere was good. Dog friendly.
