Big enough bedroom but decor tired in places - peeling wallpaper, tape over tear in lino on floor etc. Good range of real ales on tap and my wife liked her Cumbrian lamb for dinner. Good enough for one night on way north.

We stayed for a Saturday night whilst walking in North Pennines. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had a pleasant meal in the bar. Our room was spacious and bright (room 2). We would happily stay at the Cumberland again

After coming from an unhappy three night weekend stay at a 4 star hotel in County Durham, we approached the Cumberland Hotel with some trepidation. From the outside appearance, we were nervous, but from the moment we entered, our fears melted away. Everything about the hotel was relaxing and homely. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Evening meals... More

Went for an evening meal. The Turkey meal was absolutely tasteless, not had such a poor meal in a pub/restaurant for a very long time. Staff were friendly, beer was good, atmosphere was good. Dog friendly.

The barmaid made you feel very welcome moment walked in. This is a very relaxed pub, it is not formal dining. We had steak and pork belly, both good portions and cooked well, very tasty. Shared goats cheese, which was finished with mint on top and lots of salad for starter, yummy. Thank you, we will be back.

We stayed for one night at the Cumberland, it was at the convenient half way point on our way back to Suffolk from Scotland and welcomed dogs. We had a friendly welcome on our arrival and were shown to our clean and spacious room (No 2), upstairs at the back of the hotel overlooking the pretty valley behind. We ate... More

Called in to this CAMRA recommended hotel for a lunchtime drink. Lots of choice and friendly owners. Will be back. I understand they have rooms and the food seemed very popular. The hotel overlooks the river valley, a nice spot.

Stayed here for 1 night while cycling C2C. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Nice large spacious room and the bed was very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was delicious, as was the breakfast the next day. If we returned to the area we would definitely stay again. Recommended.

A friendly and well-run place. The room was clean and comfortable, food was good and reasonably-priced.A good selection of real ales.Deborah did a wonderful job of keeping things ticking over efficiently, running the bar, dealing with guests and helping out in the kitchen.Would certainly consider staying there again.
