#2 of 6 Specialty lodging in Alston
Alston Youth Hostel is situated on the edge of Alston town high up in the North Pennines (The Roof of England!) In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The Pennine Way, Pennine Journey, Isaac's Tea Trail and South Tyne Trail runs right by the side of the hostel and is the first accommodation you reach in Alston after the long walk from Dufton over Cross Fell (the highest point of The Pennine Way). We are also about half way on the ever popular Coast to Coast (C2C) cycle route which runs from Whitehaven/Workington to Tynemouth. You are guaranteed a warm welcome and the possibility of seeing red squirrels through our dining room window! Breakfast is available!

What a great place. Very friendly and welcoming arrival. Very clean and clearly a very well cared hostel. Drying room is really efficient. Great breakfast with all the trimmings. T and coffee available in the common area. Obvious restrictions around Covid but a superb stopover on the Pennine Way.

Aww thank you for such a lovely review! We are so happy to be back open and be able to take in walkers and cyclists again. It's taken some re-jigging to keep everyone safe but it's worth it! Glad you enjoyed the breakfast!! Happy travels!

Purpose built hostel conveniently situated close to center of town. Easy access from main road, on-site parking. Staff friendly and welcoming. Room clean and comfortable. Showers and washrooms clean and well serviced. Modest sized kitchen - well equipped. Good sized dining area with adjacent lounge - plenty of communal space. Free WiFi, but never managed to connect to it. Pleasant place to stay in remote upland town.

Just back from the 2020 Spine Race along the Pennine Way. Once again Linda and Neil were excellent hosts. A stop at Alston Youth Hostel is really enjoyable. Spotlessly clean, lovely bunk rooms of different sizes, plenty of toilets, showers and hot water and super self catering facilities. There is also a very cosy lounge area. Top class support from a wonderful and caring couple. Thank you for all you have done over the years. I would thoroughly recommend.

A superb setting on the edge of the Pennine Way. Comfortable bedrooms and a large welcoming communal area. Neil and Linda are discretely welcoming hosts, never too intrusive. They keep the hostel in excellent constantly renewing/redcorating for a rewarding visit. I look forward to returning next year. Thank you for a great stay, Debi

Lovely cosy hostel. The lounge is like home from home with several sofas. The dining area gain very homely with a decent sized kitchen. Parking is a little limited. Located within Alston and only a 5min walk to the main centre and next door to the hospital.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a lovely review! We do like to offer a cosy comfortable stay! The car park does take about 9-10 average sized cars but there is plenty of free parking just down the lane if required.
