Travelers' Choice
The Crown in Old Amersham, situated at the end of the Metropolitan Line and 40 minutes from London, is the second in a family of modern day coaching inns recently renovated by the designer Ilse Crawford (other works include Babington House). The old timber building is situated in the centre of the historic market town, attracting locals, restaurant guests and night time travelers. The inn’s interior is made up of rural materials – from Ercol chairs made in High Wycombe to traditional plaster made from lime and horsehair. The ‘back room’ with its inglenook fire and view of the cobbled courtyard is perfect for private gatherings and feasting of up to 40, while the bar and restaurant area is the communal heartbeat of the inn. The kitchen serves seasonally inspired, locally sourced food with in-between times satisfied with home baked cheese scones and fruit cake with Cashel Blue while the main menus changes daily.

Lovely place to stay we really felt relaxed.we had a free upgrade on arrival and the complimentary snacks & wine is a great little touch. We ate at the restaurant staff and food very good nothings to much hassle. The building is beautiful with alot of character. The only thing I'd change is lighting in the room was far to dark and I struggled to do my make-up.The mini fridge is in a small cupboard could do with a little label as I didn't know it was there until we were leaving and I could of done with it to pop my water in.

Hotel is lovely however attention to detail on cleaning in the shower would be recommended and also a mirror in the bathroom that was at head height ! Otherwise lovely place, nice touches with complimentary wine etc and a great restaurant. Highly recommend .

The first room I was given had no wardrobe so I could not hang my dresses up. It was also very small and nowhere to put my suitcase. However, when I mentioned this to Reception they immediately found me an alternative room which was much better. I got the feeling perhaps, because I was a single person checking in for just 2 nights, they they could get away with giving me the least attractive room (I did book online so maybe it did this automatically?). Having said that, they were helpful when I complained. On the second morning there was a big leak in the ceiling when I went to put the shower on. I had not used the shower the previous day as I had gone to a friend's house. I was therefore surprised they had not noticed or checked this before. It literally could have flooded the bathroom and the ceiling looked like it could have come down as the water was gushing through it. However, they did find me an alternative room to use / shower. A bit inconvenient but not a complete disaster for me as I was checking out that morning anyway. The room was basic but clean. No mini fridge. Great location right in the centre of Old Amersham with plenty of restaurants on your door step. The breakfast was OK. Eggs Royal was a bit luke warm although tasty. The full English was very good and hot and tasty. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed here last night for a family wedding, we arrived at 3 and the lady on the reception was very helpful. Our room was really good very clean with lots of space and superb facilities. We went to the bar for lunch and the food was delicious we had the Indian tapas, drinks were a bit pricey £7-10 for a pint, we live in London so are used to pricey drinks but even in our local bar it’s only £5 a pint. I would definitely come back and stay again and maybe try the restaurant for dinner in the evening

We dined here a few times when we lived in the area. 40 years ago! It was always a place for special occasions. Not any more. Whilst it was adequate overall it was expensive at £179 B&B for a hotel that lacked some basic maintenance. I realise it is a very old building but mould in the bathroom peeling paint and horrific carpet in the corridor is not good. Also we visited on a Tuesday and as the restaurant was closed the public areas were in darkness an it felt dingy and a bit macabre.

The Crown was able to give me a room at short notice when the Kings Head down the road couldn't let me into my room early before a wedding. The room was very clean and spacious, with a lovely bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable so apart from traffic noise outside (not their fault) I had a good nights sleep and woke refreshed. Breakfast was well cooked with a good choice and friendly quick service.
