The Crown in Old Amersham, situated at the end of the Metropolitan Line and 40 minutes from London, is the second in a family of modern day coaching inns recently renovated by the designer Ilse Crawford (other works include Babington House). The old timber building is situated in the centre of the historic market town, attracting locals, restaurant guests and night time travelers. The inn’s interior is made up of rural materials – from Ercol chairs made in High Wycombe to traditional plaster made from lime and horsehair. The ‘back room’ with its inglenook fire and view of the cobbled courtyard is perfect for private gatherings and feasting of up to 40, while the bar and restaurant area is the communal heartbeat of the inn. The kitchen serves seasonally inspired, locally sourced food with in-between times satisfied with home baked cheese scones and fruit cake with Cashel Blue while the main menus changes daily.

Good service, immediately changed room when problem with Nespresso machine, nice touches in room such as half bottle of wine. Highly recommend restaurant and tasting menu. Breakfast menu excellent but not executed to the high standard of evening meal.

Dissapointed in this hotel. Hotel seems tired and needing tlc. Electrics seemed a bit dodgy in room. Old Philips tv kept turning itself off and proved very hard to start again. Our shower was set to a boiling temperature which we were unable to turn down! Hawkyns Restaurant was very good but wouldn't recommend this hotel for breakfast if you are a vegan or don't want eggs for breakfast! No healthy cereal choices ie granola or fresh fruit options or plant based milk alternatives. Staff seemed very uninterested when I voiced our complaints

We only stayed one night after a wedding we had been to. Didn't check in til after 10pm so difficult to give a review. The breakfast was very good. Sleep quality wasn't brilliant as we were in a room at the front of the hotel and there is quite a lot of street noise. We had booked a "Bailey Room" at the back of the hotel through Mr And Mrs Smith website but this had been changed by the Crown. We would stay again.

The Crown is a lovely old coaching inn. The staff were helpful, breakfast was very tasty and rapidly prepared, great croissants too. We were in room 19 which was lovely in its own right, bed was very comfortable, half bottle of wine on arrival and the shower was lovely. It does however face onto the main road so traffic noise was an issue during the day but not so much during the night. However there is a lot of noise especially from the room above if other guests aren’t being considerate.

We enjoyed a relaxing couple of days away in The Chilterns. The Crown Inn in Old Amersham was a great location for our stay. We'd happily visit the area again and would recommend The Crown Inn as a place to stay.
