The staff were warm and friendly and building was quite atmospheric. Unfortunately, the 'atmospheric' was carried a little too far for me with bare floorboards in the main building bedrooms making the generously proportioned room echoey. The bed was a double king size with comfortable pillows. The sink plug didn't work, and after 2 requests, was removed leaving us to...

We paid for a deluxe Main Inn room (no.11). Very noisy room both from traffic noise (right on a busy roundabout - woken up before 6.30 am) and internally from within the hotel. The room itself was spartan but with designer twists (presumably to justify the price) but was small and did not even have a wardrobe in it. The...

The hotel is a lovely coach house, full of character, beams and creaky floorboards. The room wasn't huge, but was comfy and the shower was great. Breakfast was good and served in a lovely room. The only drawbacks were the constant playing of 50s and 60s music including Elvis and the apparent need to clear the bar in double time....

Wanted a little taste of the countryside but not too far away and found this on Doris & Dicky. Stayed for one night to have a mini get away from London with my husband. Booked a suite which is like and mini house off of the courtyard and absolutely adorable! The dinner at the new restaurant was a fantastic extra...

As a venue with a wedding license, we chose this venue to host both our small ceremony with friends and family, followed by our wedding meal and then overnight stay for guests - this worked out perfectly in terms of everything being held in one location. The Crown Inn has a lot of charm, particularly for a winter wedding -...

It was a special trip to try out Hawkyns at The Crown. But although staff pleasant and food good it wasn't the menu we had driven hours for. It's early days yet with Hawkyns so hope they will entice us back to try a new experience. Previous reviews had said it was cold in restaurant but not on our visit...

This was our first visit to the Crown Inn Hotel and we were very pleased. It's a lovely old architectural building with a few modern twists. A very friendly girl greeted us at reception and was very helpful even showed us which room we would be allocated when we return in June and having now stayed here we can't wait....

After an excellent Sunday lunch on the first weekend it opened, we returned this weekend to find that the food was if anything even better. Great to have such a good restaurant in the area. The whole offering was good, food, wine and staff who could not have been more attentive and charming.

Visited The Crown for lunch last week to try the new Atul Kochhar menu in the restaurant. It was fantastic dining in such an old historic restaurant with great food from such a famous chef. It was delicious and I will be back. Try the fish and chips.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Crown in Old Amersham, situated at the end of the Metropolitan Line and 40 minutes from London, is the second in a family of modern day coaching inns recently renovated by the designer Ilse Crawford (other works include Babington House). The old timber building is situated in the centre of the historic market town, attracting locals, restaurant guests and night time travelers. The inn’s interior is made up of rural materials – from Ercol chairs made in High Wycombe to traditional plaster made from lime and horsehair. The ‘back room’ with its inglenook fire and view of the cobbled courtyard is perfect for private gatherings and feasting of up to 40, while the bar and restaurant area is the communal heartbeat of the inn. The kitchen serves seasonally inspired, locally sourced food with in-between times satisfied with home baked cheese scones and fruit cake with Cashel Blue while the main menus changes daily. ... more   less
