Champneys Henlow is a beautiful spa and the staff were incredibly attentive the whole time we were there. Nothing was too much trouble and we were provided everything needed and more. The general manager was friendly, helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we all had a lovely morning. I will definitely visit again and would recommend to my friends for either a group visit or just a couple of friends.

I cannot rate this place enough, definitely disagree with some of the previous reviews! I was lucky enough to have part of my hen do here and it was, in my opinion, perfect! The facilities were all clean and well maintained, the pool was lovely (and warm!) and the hideaway area was so lovely to relax. I was treated to the massage chair, which id never seen before! I didn’t expect much but it was incredible! We had a great lunch, two course menu and then a choice of desserts from a buffet style selection. I’ve been to Champneys a few times over the years and the food never disappoints. The service was great and the staff were helpful as ever, especially when one of our party was gluten free, this was no issue. An added bonus was the addition of Prosecco with lunch, which hadn’t been an option a few years ago! Thank you to all those that made the day so special. I can’t wait to return again in the future!

I recently visited Champneys in Henlow as part of a friends hen do celebrations. The experience was top notch and the service was incredible from start to finish. No detail was too small to address from a delicious coffee and breakfast spread on arrival to additional towels and lockers provided instantly when needed. The management team went above and beyond to ensure we all knew where various wet rooms and relaxation areas were located and even helped us in organising a time schedule and selecting meals in advance so that we were not rushed in arriving for or enjoying our lunch. The food was fresh and healthy, yet still tasted delicious. Our group departed from the spa feeling relaxed and recharged for the rest of our weekend. I will definitely be returning to Champneys in the future to experience more of what this wonderfully, idyllic hotel and spa has to offer. Huge complements to the staff as it would not have been as amazing without their professional, organised manner thoughout our stay.

Had such a wonderful morning at champneys on Saturday, we were completely spoilt from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The welcome breakfast and lunch were both delicious and the staff were all fantastic. Very friendly, helpful and attentive. We enjoyed the pool and loved discovering the hideaway - a fantastic addition since I last visited! So comfy, cosy and relaxing. Finally, the showers and changing rooms were perfect for getting ready before heading into London - fantastic hair dryers and straighteners! Thank you champneys, can't wait to come back soon!

Had a lovely relaxing day at Champneys Henlow with my husband, which was very much needed. Before lunch time, we decided that as we were already so relaxed that we would stay for dinner if they had the availability, which they did, and speedily confirmed a dinner reservation for 6.30pm - perfect - as was the meal and service from Kirsty in the restaurant! Had a wonderful facial with Lina, who is an absolute credit to the company. Very much enjoyed relaxing on the water beds in the 'Hideaway' in fact the only downside to our day was how fast the day went. Thanks Henlow - we'll be back! :)

Positives: Room in good situation for accessing pool and classes. It was clean and comfortable. Plenty of hangers (which isn't always the case at hotels), room safe and fan available in bedroom. Downsides: Champneys are adding several extras to an already pricey stay. The price of treatments has rocketed so wasn't able to try any. The cost of the yoga classes has increased from £5 to £8 and it costs an extra £3 for each class booked via their app. There is now a smaller breakfast buffet selection, but still adequate. At dinner asked a waitress for an item missing from the table and it was never brought. Drinks are expensive - "cheapest" bottle of house red or white is £36, although some guests happy to splash out for prosecco (over £40). Several dishes (scallops, steaks) on the menu as well as side dishes have an extra cost and the dinner menu is the same each night which may limit choice for those staying longer. Check out (Molly) was quick and very efficiently dealt with. Contrast to check in when there was a queue and only one young man having to deal with things (which he did more calmly than he probably felt!) It's still a lovely place, in a lovely setting but each time, due to rising costs,, I wonder if it will be my last stay.

not recommended , no staff to be found anywhere, staff turned up late for a class. No towels, I had to wait for 20 minutes for a member of staff to go and find one for me, very overpriced for what you get. The one positive is the building and the beautiful surroundings.

So on the plus - room was spotless: staff very friendly: pre booked treatment times really good. Coffee bar a secret gem when I found it and also discovered you could get a glass of wine ! My therapist who did my facial made me laugh so much. Was fabulous with advice and made me feel wonderful. Also to lovely Charlie who did my pedicure. Thank you. However, need to be a hobbit to fit in bed (I’m 5’7 and feet dangled). Doors constantly banging in evenings / night made sleeping difficult (I mean banging) Food hit and miss in restaurant. Too much emphasis on vegan and not enough plain dishes. And too many dishes needing to pay extras supplements. C’mon guys really. Having to carry bags on arrival and departure down stairs to go back up stairs again to only 1) find a lift by chance and 2) could have used members entrance right by car park rather than walking (and dragging) bag across stones to front of house and up more steps. (When you are a solo traveller and have arthritis in hands not ideal). Such simple fixes. All in all I enjoyed my stay to recharge my batteries after a very stressful year. Would I choose to stay again…. Not sure as price for a solo occupant is very high and a lot of areas were out of order the thermal spa was freezing cold then ooo for a while. It just didn’t have that wow factor I was expecting for the price. You could go to a hotel that has a spa for a lot cheaper. But I went for the peace and quiet. However, if you want a lot of super fluffed up people who complain at the top of their voices over stupid stuff because they feel so entitled then it’s quite amusing to listen to them moan away and then at reception say they are booking again.

This was booked as a present for my wife’s birthday and whilst it would normally have been something that she would have done with ‘the girls’ I thought that I would join her this time to see what all the fuss was about….! By the end I almost wished I hadn’t bothered. Our first impressions over the phone were quite favourable. I had booked the trip through Secret Escapes the evening before we were actually due to go because my daughter was on a Netball trip with school for the weekend. Unfortunately, overnight she was taken ill so had to miss her trip and I wasn’t sure that we wouldn’t lose our money - and the treatments we had booked for each of us - because the terms said it was not transferable or refundable. Thankfully the team on reception allowed us to change it for the following week and said they would look after the treatment bookings as well….although we did have to change times because our original ones weren’t available. Fast forward to the day we were due to travel….and I had a missed call in my phone (with no voicemail left) which I returned to find that it was the Treatment Room asking where we were..! This was for a 12.00pm booking on the day we were due to arrive….despite the confirmation being for 10.00am the following day…! Initially I got the impression that they were not going to accommodate us but after a bit of a lengthy wait they told us they would keep to our original time slot. So, to the resort itself. We arrived and were given a very warm welcome by the reception team and shown to our room by a very helpful and friendly girl. So far, so good. We were staying in a ‘Superior Room’ although it was difficult to see what was ‘Superior’ about it. It was nicely decorated, the bathroom was a decent size….although the same could not be said of the TV and it was clean. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and actually felt I was sleeping on a slope. It almost felt like I had to move as close to the middle of the bed for fear of falling out..! The pillows were awful as well. We had booked our evening meal for 7.30pm but, bizarrely had to BOOK a time for breakfast AND for lunch. In all of the years I’ve been staying in hotels, never in my life have I ever been asked to book a specific time for breakfast. It’s absolutely ludicrous. We spent the rest of the afternoon around the main pool area. It could easily have been any pool in any hotel chain around the country. It was nothing special at all. There was a jacuzzi and a steam room….both fairly basic. Then to dinner; I had read previous reviews from people who had been disappointed with the food quality and selection and they weren’t wrong. What I always find particularly annoying is to have a ‘dinner, bed and breakfast’ deal (or in this case lunch as well) as an all inclusive price but then find that there are several items on the menu that had supplements. The choices were very limited and almost made me think they were more attuned to a health farm rather than a Spa Hotel. The starters were small and frankly awful. I had a Prawn Cocktail. They were shrimps at best….and there were very few of them as well….but plenty of lettuce. And two bits of bread which I could probably have propped the door open with they were so hard. I actually kept a piece back to show the waitress (who I actually later found was the actual Hotel Manager) to show her how hard it was. She did offer me an alternative starter but not only was there nothing else that suited my taste but my wife had already finished hers….albeit she sent 80% of it back as well as it was inedible. Based on the offerings for main courses I decided to add some Boiled Potatoes to my chicken dish, at a supplement of £4.25. It was as well I did because the piece of chicken was quite small and dry, but the potatoes were very hot and quite tasty. It soon became apparent from dishes that I was seeing being served to other diners around me that the only dishes that looked both hot and edible were the ones being charged for…! We were then given our puddings. My wife hd a bread and butter pudding….not that you would have known to look at it….nor taste for that matter. Mine was a pear and almond tart….which was as hard as the bread on my Prawn Cocktail. I was intending sending them both back and seeing what else was on offer but we sat for at least 15 minutes without seeing a single waiter or waitress that was visible amongst the dozen or so tables that were eating around us. Awful service standards. We weren’t asked once during the entire course of the meal whether everything was ok…other than when our plates were being collected. It’s also worth adding, for anyone that might have fancied a drink with their meal, that the cheapest bottle of White Wine was £36. A small glass of Merlot was £11.50 and an even smaller glass of Prosecco was £9…..or £44 if you wanted the bottle. No spirits, beer or soft drinks were available…just water. I went to reception to complain about the quality of the meal and the service and the lady was friendly and said she would make the Manager aware for the next day. Breakfast the next morning was extremely poor. Again, why no cooked breakfasts for those who are quite happy to eat a fried egg or a sausage or some mushrooms…? No….just cereal, a selection of fruits and BOILED eggs which looked fairly solid as well..! We were in two minds whether to stay for lunch but did…..and it was no better. In fact the range on offer was even smaller. Soup of the Day was a Curried Soup…?? Really..? I went for the chicken again for my main as it was the only one that offered meat….and it was cold. Clearly these meals appear to be pre-prepared and either reheated or microwaved…and not very well either. The puddings on offer were equally inedible. Before we checked out we spoke to the Manager (the ‘waitress’ from the night before) and whilst she was apologetic I did get the impression she was being quite defensive about our criticisms of the food by the way she gave us the ‘We normally get told how good the food is’……so in other words I think you must be mistaken. She agreed to waive the cost of the ‘extras’ we had built up during our stay which didn’t amount to much really as it was only 3 cups of coffee each and a small piece of cake each. But she also agreed to waive the ‘gratuities’ which she told us were automatically added to our bill….despite not one person ever making us aware that this was the case when we checked in. There was no offer to reduce the actual cost of the stay which was disappointing. The best part of the stay were the treatments. I was looked after by a lovely girl called Abi who was extremely friendly and gave a very good massage and facial. The staff in the rest of the hotel were mostly youngsters, particularly in the restaurant and the coffee bar but all were polite and helpful but are being let down by the actual quality of what is being offered. I’m sure there will be many whose experience differs from ours but, considering the cost of the stay - over £500 including the treatments - I don’t think that it represented good value for money and I would certainly not be looking to return in a hurry. I suspect they are still living on the Champneys name….but they need to up their game, particularly as these prices.
