My first Champneys experience and it will certainly not be my last. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were met with smiles and warmth. The building and grounds were beautiful which led me to be fascinated with every detail! We started the day with a nutritious and impressively presented breakfast, perfect to set us up for the day. We then moved on to a yoga class, where we were lucky enough to have an instructor with a great energy and passion for the practise. Next week explored the grounds of the retreat and found ourselves on the bluebell trail, a real perk of you’re visiting in spring! With the breakfast being of such high quality, the bar was set for lunch and wow, it did not disappoint. Each course was absolutely delicious, and the best part was, I knew It was all super healthy! The afternoon came and it was time for a treatment, I chose to have a deep tissue massage. My masseuse listened to exactly what I needed and I have never felt more relaxed. The tension I didn’t even realise I had, was gone & I genuinely felt lighter after the massage! To finish the day we made the most out of the pool and the rest of the amazing spa facilities. The entire experience was one I will never forget and I can’t imagine a better place to spend some quality time with my friend. Thank you for an unbelievably, wonderful day Champneys Henlow!…
Thank you Champneys, we had the most wonderful stay. The room was beautiful, the food was excellent and the staff were all so lovely! We had a treatment each, both were amazing, we both wish we had booked another. I night wasn’t enough. We will certainly be back very soon.
Just want we needed..... we have just returned from a fantastic 2 night stay. I have been to Champneys Henlow a few times over the years and it never disappoints. The staff are so welcoming and friendly, our room looked out over the river and we were lucky enough to enjoy some sunbathing time in the sun - pure bliss. The food was delicious, our treatments were the best we have ever had. We enjoyed a bottle of wine after dinner in the conservatory whilst playing a game of cards which was something new to us there but we really enjoyed it. Seems like there is more going on in the evenings than on previous visits. Thank you for another wonderful break, see you soon.
Fantastic overnight stay. Beautiful room and all the staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant had a good selection. The facilities were not over crowded and the garden was tranquil and relaxing. We can’t wait to go back and have booked our next visit. Matt who checked us in could not have been more helpful
Stayed at Henlow March 2022. We had visited Henlow Grange before many years ago and had enjoyed the break, so decided to try again. This time it was good, but there were a few niggles. There is not much to do at Henlow in terms of spa area, such as one swimming pool, jacuzzi and the steam room and sauna were in each of the men's and women's changing rooms so you couldn't mix. There were three of us (females) and we shared a tripple room, which really wasn't user friendly with one of us behind a wall so we couldn't lay on our beds and see each other. Also one of my friends treatments were mixed up badly, and the reception staff were not that good at accepting responsibility. The food was very good, plenty of it, however there were some dishes that had supplements you had to pay, I understand the supplements for breakfast if you want it cooked, but why do this for the other meals when they could add a couple of pounds to the price overall and let everything be free. Really put us off. Have to say that mainly the staff were excellent, friendly and chatty. Having to pay in advance of your stay, I feel, was not good. Also had to organise treatments on-line before the stay, and again paid for in advance. When you receive the final bill you have to go through it in fine detail, as they did get mine wrong. Although it was sorted. Saying all that mainly it was a relaxing, enjoyable break. Needs a few tweeks after lockdown.…
Iam a hugh fan of champneys and looking forward to every visit specially at the henlow resort. and ones again the team made them self proud. From Check in to Check out nothing was to much ask , Since the weather is better you can enjoy your lunch or dinner outside and the sun bed at the river are a dream. Looking forward to my next visit in the summer
This has been my go-to place for well over a decade (several times a year for several days at a time). On my recent visit (first time post-Covid) I was extremely disappointed. At dinner, payment is required for a vegetable side. Unacceptable! Who wants just a plate of protein and why are guests paying for half a meal. Food quality is extremely poor and the desserts are inedible. The good at Henlow used to be sooo good, great quality and plentiful. Please sack the chef! Exercise classes which are advertised as free, need to be paid for in booking in advance. The lovely fluffy robes which were so comforting to wrap yourself in are now threadbare, barely wrap around you and have some sort of security tag on them - who would want to steal them!? I was very sad to experience this.
Very disappointed with the spa facilities here it is basically just a swimming pool no frills. The whole hotel needs updating it looks tired and worn. The rooms were miserable, fly infested rooms with lots of broken facilities. No bar, should have done my research but no fridge in the room to even bring your own drinks. Spa treatments are good but you pay extra of course. The food was very bland and tasteless. Shame we didn’t read reviews before we came here !
My wife and I recently stayed here for a 1-night spa break for our wedding anniversary and it was highly disappointing. Our main issue was around the room (s) we were given. The first room had a broken pipe making a loud continuous noise. When I went to reception they were aware of the problem so offered to move us. Not sure why they put us in the room in the first place if they knew of the issue! We therefore had the inconvenience of having to repack our things and move back across the hotel. By the time we had done this we wanted to get off and start enjoying our time so didn’t return to our new room till late at night after dinner. When we did return we found several further issues, mainly around cleanliness. 6 dead bugs in the bath and a dead spider hanging from the ceiling, below a web of multiple further bugs. I am not sure when the room had last been cleaned. Next issue was noise from outside the room. I put this down to the room being one of the few remaining without double glazing, however, established in the morning it was because the latch on the window was broken and the window didn’t shut properly and left a 1-inch gap, no doubt how all the bugs were getting into the room. However, the biggest issue I had was when opening my towel in the shower in the morning to find another dead bug inside! Utterly disgusting!! Other issues included tv remote not working and bathroom mirror light broken. The whole place in general just feels run down. I have stayed in many hotels of varying standards over the years, however, this is quite frankly the dirtiest and most unhygienic room I have ever slept in. As well as all the other issues, this simply was not good value for money!…
I wanted to treat my daughter after her finals as she had worked so hard. I booked Forest Mere without reading reviews. I thought I had better just check the reviews as an overview bearing in mind if you always accepted everything you read you would never go anywhere! However I got a real shock when reading the reviews - there was a general theme which was too frequent and the management had not even bothered to respond or clearly address the issues as the bad comments were more consistent than one would expect. I panicked as was spending a lot of money to make things nice. I telephoned and luckily was able to transfer the booking to Henlow Grange and thank goodness as the bad reports regarding Forest Mere seem to be continuing. I am pleased to say it was the right decision as just finishing our weekend there and have had a lovely time. The food was very good and so were the treatments and room. Yes as others have said the pool area is very busy and just one pool but the weather was on our side and the gardens lovely. Everyone was very obliging and not sure why the comments have been made about the food as we thought it was good. We would return to Henlow but now feel we would not risk Forest Mere as the trip is not cheap and you don’t want to risk the general comments being valid for the money involved. Champneys has always had a good reputation but reading the reviews generally something is going wrong at the minute. Please listen to your customers - they can’t all be wrong. We will be returning to Henlow Grange as we enjoyed it.…
