Over the years we have looked at Casa Hamaca as a place to stay when we visited Valladolid but we always considered it beyond our price range. This year however, we stumbled across a great deal through a third-party booker. The hotel is located a few blocks from the zocalo but an easy walk. It is set in a bit of a park south of downtown in the San Juan neighborhood. Check in was easy. Denis - the owner - was expecting us. Some rooms are on the ground floor level and others are upstairs. Ours was upstairs. I believe the property is accessible for the main floor and the restaurant. The room was very large, the beds were extremely comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean. We had A/C but didn't require it even though the days were hot. The room was very quiet at night and we enjoyed a really good sleep. There are a number of cats that frequent the property. Denis says he only has one cat but they put out food in the morning and frequently over a dozen come to eat. They are not bothersome and likely help a lot to control vermin and insects in the area. There is a small pool on the property as well. Denis and the staff were very friendly and efficient. The breakfast was very good as well. Depending on how much you want to spend, you can't go wrong with this option in Valladolid.

My husband and I are currently spending our full time life traveling. For shorter stays we usually stray in boutique hotels. Casa Hamaca was great. Denis had good tips for local venues, the room was spotless and the staff very friendly. It's a great little place to stay. We liked the folk art themed rooms.

I stayed 5 nights at Casa Hamaca and all was grear. Denis is a fantastic host and everyone there super lovely. I loved my big green room with a very confy bed, hamaca and rocking chair. This was a work trip and I enhoyed working on the big table outside next to the pool. The food was great and the whole environment is amazing.

We absolutely love this guesthouse. It is quiet, comfortable and beautiful. Denis treats his guests so kindly and is such an interesting man. His art treasures are fascinating. The hotel is set in a lovely garden across from a park and church just a short walk from the main square. The incredible folk art museum is about a 10 minute walk and just beyond that is a new Mayan textile museum with a fabulous ice cream shop in between. We toured a fascinating bee museum on this trip, too. Before we decide on the dates of our trip, we contact Denis to find out what community events he is hosting. This time we came there for a fundraising concert for the English language library consisting of a cellist, guitarist, and Mayan drummers. It was wonderful and we met interesting people. There is a lovely restaurant on site and a refreshing pool. This place is not just a hotel, it is just a fantastic experience.

Casa Hamaca and its proprietor, Denis, were absolutely wonderful! Peaceful environs, good food (I only ate breakfast here), close vicinity to center of town and activities, and nice musical event on-site. Denis was super nice, took us to the local market to see the tastes and sounds of local life. Thank you!

My wife and I stayed at casa hamaca for seven nights in nov. We had an amazing time in Valladolid and this hotel was the perfect home base for our adventures. The owner Denis is an absolute gentleman with an encyclopedic knowledge of mexico. Gave us great advice as to what to see and do while in Valladolid. Everything from where to get a haircut, where to get my laptop repaired to what museums to see and in general whats happening in and around valladolid. The adjoining restaurant is five star as well. We ate breakfast and a few lunches there and the food was always fresh and delicious. The gardens surrounding the hotel are lovely and we stayed in the stone house room. It was spotless, very large bathroom and tons of closet and storage space. A rarity when it comes to hotels. The staff are exceptionally kind and sweet. If your like me and you spend a great deal of time researching your vacations, finding the perfect combinations of where to go, what to do and where to stay, let me save you some time because casa hamaca is the place. You will not be disappointing staying here. Thank you Denis, for a wonderful stay, hope to see you and your staff again some day.

Casa Hamaca feels like a real traveler's lodge -- international flags hanging from the second floor balcony, interesting artifacts, paintings and murals throughout the hotel. The gardens are lush and there's a sense of refuge. Dennis, the owner, and his excellent staff were welcoming, full of great suggestions, and wonderful hosts. We came back from dinner pretty late on a steamy evening and asked Henry, who was on night duty, if it would be okay to take a dip in the pool. He turned on the lights, asked if we wanted drinks, made us cuba libras, and played dj while we swam under the stars. We could tell he was really trying to guess what music we would like, which made it even more charming. The next morning, we got up early to go to market with Dennis and Terla. If you have this opportunity, don't pass it up. It was one of the best experiences of our entire trip. We wish we could've stayed long enough to have dinner at the hotel, but I can honestly say that the Eggs Hamaca was the best breakfast of our entire time in Mexico (and we had many wonderful breakfasts). So well-prepared. Also, my husband loved the restaurant's Micheladas! This is a very special place.

Lovely jungle hideaway near center of the city. American (or Canadian?) ex-pat owner built this oasis and filled it with lovely thick flora. Has relaxing porch and rooms with small restaurant. Food is ok, but very convenient when I arrived late in evening and didn't want to walk around town. About 10-15' walk or less to town square and nearby cenote. Very friendly owner and staff. Owner very helpful providing information about the area. Rooms are big and basic without much view. Have good overhead fans and powerful air conditioning. Definitely not a fancy place, but very clean and comfortable. Nice decorations in the common areas and living room. Parking onsite or right on street as well.

Friends had recommended Casa Hamaca for many good reasons. The restaurant is substantial and fun, the pool is private and relaxing, there's a large porch surrounded by gardens. The owner plans events on a regular basis, attracting locals as well as for guests: film nights, mariachi performances, English language reading clubs. Or, if you prefer none of this, it's a great retreat where the only noise comes from a nearby rooster. Everyone seems to be in a good mood, and the rooms are spacious and relaxing. We liked the way locals came in for the restaurant and concert; easy to engage, interesting on their own. Generally speaking cat people will be happier than dog people, but the kitties keep their distance and stick to their nap times.

Unfortunately we only had 1 night here. It was a lovely hotel. Great location, secluded because the hotel itself is set back from the front gate a bit. Yet in walking distance of the main square and lots of good food. The breakfast in the morning was simple but good. Good fresh fruit, granola, yogurt and muffins. You can also order off the menu if that’s not enough. It was quiet and very green. We had a mix up with our room, but Dennis was quick to make it right. He also gave us some great suggestions for the area. We felt very safe walking back to the hotel after dinner, about 10pm. AC worked well, and we always had hot water. We would stay here again.
