I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this little hostel. This place is family owned for multiple generations now and it feels like home. The staff and owner were great and always helpful and smiling. The bikes you could rent were in top condition ms the facilities great. The dorms are basic but it's sufficient and the vast outside area is incredible. Breakfast was delicious and the information provided a huge help. I'd stay again. It's a great place from which to explore Valladolid.

I stayed at Hostel La Candelaria for 4 nights from February 28 to March 3, 2020 in the 6 bed female dorm as a solo traveler. The dorm was comfortable and simple with three sets of wooden bunk beds. There was AC and a large fan for hot nights. I lucked out with a bottom bunk which had an outlet beside it, but not all bunks had outlets close to them, though they were in various places around the dorm. There were no privacy curtains around the bed, but I created one with my towel. The dorm was on the second floor and there was a washroom and shower right beside the room which was convenient. Each person had a medium sized locker (locks were provided). The hostel had beautiful grounds behind the building. There were outdoor washrooms and showers in a colourfully painted building, an outdoor kitchen and seating area, bike rentals, and a pathway leading through the lush jungle garden to a peaceful hammock area at the back of the property. They had multiple citronella coils situated around the kitchen area to keep the mosquitoes away but they were a bit annoying around the hammocks. There was also a rooftop lounge area with seating and more outdoor washrooms/showers and an indoor lounge on the second floor. The hostel attracted a mature and friendly bunch of travelers and I met some really great people here. The washrooms and showers were always clean. It was hit and miss with the hot water at times and sometimes I could only get cold water. The location was perfect and the hostel was on a quiet plaza and park bordered with a couple cafes. It was only a few blocks north of the main park and plaza in the centre of the city so it was very easy to get around to the main areas by just walking. The hostel was located in an historic colonial house and was charming. I enjoyed renting a bike during one of the days and cycling to a nearby cenote. Breakfast was provided and prepared fresh daily in the morning by two local women in the outdoor kitchen behind the hostel. It always consisted of fresh fruit, cereal, tea, juice and coffee, bread and typically eggs made to order. It was a basic breakfast but good enough for me. The staff were friendly and helpful. They have binders in the reception area with lots of ideas for things to do and places to visit while in Valladolid. It's very comprehensive with great information and was put together by the staff. I loved spending four days at this hostel and taking the time to explore Valladolid. It's a cute, colourful, peaceful and charming little colonial city with friendly locals and a great base for visiting nearby ruins and cenotes and other attractions. This hostel was budget-friendly, clean, cute and friendly and I loved my stay here. I had previously stayed here twice in 2015 and loved it so much that I came back this trip for a third visit. Would recommend!

I stayed here so that I could go early to Chichen Itza and this hostel is perfect for that! It's very easy to get local transport from near to the hostel to Chichen itza and there are also lots of nice restaurants and bars nearby. The hostel serves a good breakfast but they only start serving at 7am which is a shame because I'd you want to avoid the crowds at chichen itza then you have to miss breakfast. My only con would be that in the 8 bed dorm there was only one bathroom so there was often a queue to use it. There are also a lot of flies/mosquitos in the room so bring plenty of bug spray.

My 12 year old daughter and I stayed there one night. When we arrived, it was before we were able to go to our room, but the staff were very helpful and told us we could put our backpacks in lockers so we wouldn’t have to lug them around the city. We happily did so and were able to enjoy a fine lunch, cool museum, and a cenote in town. When we came back, the staff had set up our simple but pleasant and comfortable room. The bathrooms outside were clean, the showers were nice, and the whole place is lush and beautiful. The only reason we did not give this a five star rating is because we do not eat dairy, and the only breakfast option without dairy was fruit, which was not substantial enough for our day. To be fair, we did not let them know ahead of time, so perhaps they would have accommodated for our needs. We definitely recommend this hostel for an enjoyable, comfortable stay.

Girls only dorm, pleasant little garden with dining room and hammocks, friendly and helpful staff. centrally located in a pretty little square quite close to the centre, modestly priced. Its an old house so rooms are a bit small but made up for by location and friendly atmosphere.
