The food is great but the pizza is to die for....load it up with veggies. Marcia has a great menu. Never stayed there because we rented just up the road and then moved to Puerto Angel but still worth the drive for Pizza....

Set on a pristine beach with gentle water, Mayan Beach Garden is just far enough out of the way to leave the hubbub behind. Palms shade the serpentine paths connecting the buildings and leading to the sea. There are little bits of art where you don't expect to see them and conveniences in the rooms where you don't expect to find them. Birds sing, the breezes are perfect, sunrise is worth getting up for.. The menu changes (we have stayed here many times) and the food is really really good! Plus you always meet the nicest people!

The main building which has a bar and a dining room is where the activity happens. The highest quality of "home made" Mexican meals are served in a "family" setting, which is perfect for getting to know other guests. You can't get better Mexican food anywhere else! Dart games happen every night with Kim, the host.

If you like a wild ride and lots of noise, this probably wouldn't be for you --
If you like pine coladas, relaxation and walks on the beach, this would be for you.

Most of the cabanas have hammocks on the decks and a beautiful view of the ocean, where you can go snorkeling right from the beach..

Don't forget your bug spray or sunscreen. The bug spray was a must but perhaps that is only at specific times of the year, depending on the weather.

The nearest port for cruise ships is at Mahahual, which is also the nearest town. Just a few years ago it was a little fishing village. However, it is now an infant Playa del Carmen that will provide you with all the bustle, beach restaurants and bars, and souvenirs you could possibly want.

This was our third visit back to Myan Beach Gardens and we are hopeful that we will make it back again next year - it definately is our "go to" place in Placer.

You wrote this review in February, but I am just now seeing it. What a nicely written review of both Mahahual and Mayan Beach Garden. I think its important for people to realize the little town we are closest to, so thank you for providing that. We hope to see you again soon. We are still open, with some changes to accommodate social distancing.

Mayan Beach Garden is the best place on the Caribbean Coast of Mexico for those who are seeking unspoiled scenery & peaceful relaxation. It is a true "paradise". The entire staff are very professional, friendly, polite & accomodating.
My only complaint is minor; The bar is well stocked for those who prefer to drink their choice of alcohol "straight". But their skill at making a "proper" drink should be improved. The drinks are generous...but unskillfully prepared. I recommend bringing your own alcohol & mixers or simply stick to drinking beer. Which is what I did.
Their food is AWESOME!!!! Their breakfast, lunch, dinner portions are DELICIOUS & more than generous. I recommend choosing the "All-Inclusive" option.
My room was spotlessly clean & the bed was VERY comfortable. Presently, their 2 beach-front accommodations are being renovated. I saw them being beautifully updated. When completed, they will be my choice. I plan to return next year.

We are so happy you enjoyed our restaurant and atmosphere at Mayan Beach Garden. Also, thank you for your thoughts on ways to improve our bar. You are correct, we have a small selection of mixed drinks that we make, which is by design. The ones we make are very good, and we admittedly fall short when asked to make something not on our drink menu since we only carry a few liquors. We make one of the best Pina Coladas on the coast and we make a very good Margarita , both without mixers. Because our rooms have refrigerators or coolers, many of our guests bring alcohol with them. We have a small selection of Wines, so we ask that our guests contact us to see if we carry what they like to drink so they can come prepared.

If you want a natural relaxing escape experiencing true Mexico and a Beautiful Quiet Beach instead of a Large Hotel Tourist Spot with tons of people, then you must visit Mahahual and the Mayan Beach Garden. Cozy rooms, Great Food, Friendly Owners and Staff, Beautiful Private Beach, Native Wildlife. Best request one of their air conditioned rooms if heat is an issue and the natural ocean breeze is not enough. Good Mosquito Repellent a must.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay at Mayan Beach Garden. I also appreciate advice to those who are wondering about our rooms and the mosquitoes. To expand on these a little -- While mosquitoes are not a problem for most of our guests, during months we get rain (Anytime between June and December), or if you are the type who is allergic to mosquitoes -- you may likely need repellent at some point during your stay. The beach itself is relatively free of mosquitoes. That said, the type we have is a tiny dusk mosquito -- so dusk might be an issue year round except when we have a breeze coming from the east (which is most often but not always). We do spray when there is a wind that blows mosquitoes out of the jungle. This is really wordy! I realize I wrote way too much about it. During the dry months, people don't write about mosquitoes because they aren't a bother, but right now. . .( I'm writing this in October) -- I think its a month where repellent is recommend for evenings.

This is our second time at MBG and we will be back. If you like it quiet and peaceful, then this is the place for you. Breakfast is included in the room price and you get a good selection. You can also have lunch and dinner which is great. The owners and staff are all very friendly and helpful. Marcia sent us north along the coast to a small fishing village and we just had the best time enjoying the road and of course the fresh lobster at the end of the road. The rooms/bungalows are really nice, we even had a fridge. You don't need the a/c, the fan works wonders and there are so many windows in the rooms that the breeze feels really nice. Hammocks and chairs on the terrace with sea views are nice too. All in all it is a very nice place.

My husband and I spent 6 nights at this beautiful beachfront hotel from Jan. 19-25. While we have rented houses in Mahahual previously, this was our first stay at Marcia's and it is difficult to imagine visiting any other way after this experience. Most importantly to us was the beautiful sandy beach with wonderful snorkeling suitable for all levels of experience and comfort. We also enjoyed the beach combing which was more interesting than other beaches we have been to near Mahahual, at least in our experiences. However, the true deciding factor that will draw us back to MBG are the family style dinners each evening. It was a special opportunity to meet a diverse group of travelers which made for great conversation and comradery. During the day, we had all the privacy we desired but still had opportunity to socialize over a delicious meal. We purchased the meal plan which included 3 healthy and delicious meals each day as well as drinks. Although we had a car, we had no need or desire to leave MBG on this particular trip. Marcia and her staff are wonderful. If you play darts, strike up a game with Kim. Already planning a return trip with the whole family!

Everyone has said everything good that I can possible think of, so I will only very enthusiastically, second it. I want to thank Marcia and Kim for their wonderful hospitality in accommodating (and encouraging) anything we wanted to do, whether it was exploring, snorkeling, lazing around or finding seclusion bathing on the beach where we were the only ones for miles.
We stayed 8 nights. This is our second stay.
This hotel reminds me of the the old movies where groups of travelers would tour and eat together. It is great to get to know your fellow sojourners and enjoy sharing the adventures of the day around the common dining table every evening. The food is wonderful, we ate, we enjoyed and we did not gain any weight. Who could ask for more.
Again, thank you, thank you, thank you.

I just loved your review-- Especially the mental picture you painted about the old movies where groups of people travel and eat together. Because of COVID, right now, we can't all eat at the same table, instead, it is more like the breakfasts where people still chat with their neighbors. We will return to the old fashioned dinner club style of hospitality soon, but in the meantime, we hope all of our guests still become friends. Thanks again for the beautiful review.

We rented Studio #1 for a week. Warm welcome, super accomodation, comfy bed, enough kitchen equipment for our needs, good breakfast and good restaurant.
Helpful staff.
We were right on a beautiful sandy beach, views out over the ocean, beach cleaned and groomed each day.
Fabulous time, thank you Marcia.

We found ourselves here on our honeymoon after having to evacuate Cancun due to hurricane Delta.... and we are so happy we did! Marcia was so accommodating to our last minute reservation and her and Kim made us feel so welcome. The food was SO delicious. The pina colada’s were amazing! All of the staff were so kind. We were actually the only ones there at the time and had the whole beach to ourselves, it was so peaceful. We hope to come back in the future and spend more than a couple days!

Is the Punta Placer area free to the public?? Arriving via cruise and wanted to go snorkeling there.
Answer from snorkelqueen2

This is Marcia from Mayan Beach Garden. While all beaches are federal and free to the public, access is not always public and there is no available public access to the point. Many people stop at Mayan Beach garden and walk there along the beach -- that is what most of my guests do. .There is, however a place where you can pass through from the road and it is closer to the point of shore entry. It isn't advisable to pass onto private property without permission. Punta Placer is a lovely place to snorkel, but is not necessarily for beginners. Much of the coral is very shallow and others are thick and maze like. Snorkeling without fins is not recommended becasue fins aid as flotation devises and also make it so that one may make shallow kicks. Beginners may find themselves standing accidentally on coral causing death to coral -- which is not a plant but a living animal. I know most people would hate to be the cause of that but find it hard to avoid while cleaning masks or adjusting the snorkel. Punta Placer is vast and without signs or other people except for the random spear fishermen. I think that its a great place for experienced snorkelers, but for novices, I don't recommend it without a guide or someone who has snorkeled there before to give you advise on where to enter and how to see the best of this beautiful slie of paradise that nature has provided us.

Hi Chris. May is usually fairly mosquito free. Mosquitos occur when there is no wind, however. But when the wind is from the east (as it usually is), we usually are OK. Do bring repellent for dusk when the breeze dies down. Regarding the Sargassum. Last May we had a lot, but it depends on the currents and the conditions in the Sea. If you like to fly fish off shore, we had guests last year catching large tarpon in front of the Hotel and it was full of sargassum. There is a good fly fishing guide. Contact me directly via the link on trip advisor and I can put you in touch with him. You will love Mexico! Marcia

Hi this is Marcia We accept children during all months accept during the months of January, February and march when the majority of our guests are older people from cold climates who would prefer to vacation without children interrupting the tranquility. . I do have to say that we don't have TV and we dine together in the evening , which bores some children. We can seat your family apart if needed. We don't carry special furniture for children, but we make a great plain cheese Quesadilla for picky eaters. marcia
