El Castillo Beach Club/Restaurant/Hotel is about an hour drive from the cruise ship dock near Mahahual. As part of the Holland America Shore Excursion program, I joined several other cruisers in what we hoped would be a couple of hours at the beach far away from the cruise crowds at the dock. Unfortunately, the winds were very high the day... More

We stay right down the road from El Castillo for three months every year. They make the best Mango Crepes I've ever had. Gabby is a great cook. Their specialty is sea food made inside of pineapple and coconut and a mango fish mixture. I have never stayed the night at the hotel but the beach is beautiful and clean.

We had a very good time in the hotel: the people are very friendly, the food delicious, we had all the beach for our own and the sea is amazing. A little bit of sea grass, but that doesn't disturb. It's a family business and they have the most funny dog I've ever seen. Really a place to relax, also... More

We were three families of 12 people traveling on Norwegian cruise lines with a port of call in Costa Maya. We got off the ship and took a van ride (arrange with your driver to take you back to ship) to this quaint beachside resort for the day. It seemed like long ride because the roads are bumpy but we... fantastic beach in a small hotel. Great food including fresh fish and grear desserts selfcooked in a Wienese way. Not luxurious but very sweet rooms with charm. If you are NOT into touristy traps can only recommend. We will be back. Claudia and David

It was obvious from the shape of the room that house keeping had not been there in a while. There was a wasp's nest dried to the curtains, which my husband brushed off. The crumbs remained on the floor for the entire stay, as in no house keeping at all. Also a drainage problem in the shower, the whole place... More

We were driving south from Mahahual towards Xcalak along the shore road, looking for a nice place to stop for lunch, catch some rays on the beach, and swim in the clear blue waters. We happened upon Hotel El Castillo and couldn't have been more thrilled with our find! At the time of our trip, the establishment was just opening... More

El Castillo is the most amazing, gorgeous beach in all of Costa Maya. The property has a good energy feel and very laid back. the beach is swimmable, wide and clean. The food is excellent with fresh fish, seafood and mexican specialties. The rooms are peaceful, just right!

i was in Castillo on June 2008. I and my husband stayed there for 6 days. the caribbean was beautiful and warm, i even didn't care about no hot shower in our room. even bits from chakistas(sand flees) were not so bad. food cooked by Gabriella was good. the beach was cleaned in front of the hotel.
