Done 2 weeks here as a family of 4 with 2 young kids. Don’t get me wrong around the pool and during the day was spot on to be honest couldn’t fault that or the drinks from the bar. The main issue for us was the pricing of things so for example $10 dollars for a bag of crisps, $21 dollars for a pack of swim nappies, having to spend money on overpriced bug stuff due to being eaten alive not only at night but in the room too. The room we got was nice but we had ants everyday without fail, the floor was always dirty and we knew that due to our daughters knee’s. The food…. Never any bacon at breakfast, everything just tasted the same, they’d run out of food and then not replenish it. The ‘Al a carte’ restaurants…. The Italian over at coba was lovely, we only did the Brazilian, Mexican and the indian once. The Brazilian and Mexican you can get everything at the main buffet it’s just buffet but in a different place. Very slow paced too. Staff couldn’t be bothered with you unless you generously tipped and if there are any Mexicans on holiday you don’t stand a chance. They look after their own before anyone else. The wildlife is good as it’s over run with Raccoon dogs and lizards so we enjoyed that part. Wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend to anyone as there’s better places to stay in Mexico

Arrival/check-in: we booked through Tui and done the online check-in on the website 5 days prior to coming. We managed to book the restaurants on the app before coming - we had 7 visits. Would recommend doing this before you come as we enquired about changing an existing booking and the were full for our last week. Arrival was quick and easy and bell boys take you and luggage on the cart to your room. Rooms- we booked a junior suite with Tui. We got the old style room. They managed to change us on day 3 as the hotel was full. We got a superior room in Villa 3 - amazing location 🤩. The cost was meant to be $10 per person per night but we didn’t have to pay. Got a helpful manager called Fernando who was great! We are a party of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids; 15 & 12. We had 2 doubles and a double sofa. I would book a suite if returning. There was plenty of storage space for clothes and 4 cases. The toilet is weird and quite see-through so we avoided that area if someone was in. I didn’t think the shower was as see through as others have said; this wasn’t an issue for us. If you are short of towels or have any issues with your room. Dial 8585 to concierge and they will sort it your issue. We left 50 pesos in the safe every few days with a note for beer, coke, Fanta and crisps. These were left every day even when we didn’t leave note or tip! Cleaners were in every day. Pool areas - plenty of sun beds, no need to get up early unless you require one with shade as these are very limited at the main pool. The kids pool has lots of shade and lots of beds. We spent time at all the pools, including the Coba one a couple of days which is really good. The quiet pool is lovely, good music and a chilled vibe. There are Bali beds but I think they are hard to get. We managed to get one on an afternoon as someone left - they are amazing! The main pool has a lot going on; water polo every day, aerobics classes etc. the swim up bar is a plus. Restaurants- the main buffet has so much choice; we only ate in there for dinner 3/4 times but the options are amazing. The Mexican section is so good!! They have a grill area, seafood area with prawns, scallops, salmon etc and they will cook it fresh for you. Pasta area were you choose your ingredients and they cook it fresh (I had this twice and it was great - sometimes a wait but worth it). So much choice for breakfast and lunch too. The waiters serve you drinks to your table. For lunch options, there is also the food trick and main pool bbq area. The food truck does get busy at peak times but it’s great, I had the help yourself nachos most days! The bbq at the main pool is great too. Coba pool food area is a lot better in my opinion. It’s a small buffet but at the pool area, with salads, wraps, fresh pizza, burgers etc. Dinners; we ate at Thali (Indian) - very good. We had the sample dish which was tasters of a lot of the options on the menu. It’s a lovely restaurant with great staff. Tequila (Mexican). Although this is a buffet, it’s very good. The theming is amazing, we got to wear the sombreros for photos. Don Pablo - absolutely loved this place, my favourite of them all. We had a large table for 8 as we went with friends. The water, Filiberto was brilliant. We all had the filet steak but he brought extra prawn dishes, fries and rice for the table. There was so much food but excellent quality. We had Mayan coffe afterwards. Le Gourmet- similar to Don Pablo - amazing food, we all had steak there too. Although these are fine dining, don’t be put off if you have kids. There is a kids menu in each restaurant but it’s not that great. We used the opportunity to try new things, such as lobster Thermidor and fois gras. The restaurants are not pretentious at all and we were made to feel welcome. La Gran Tortuga - rodizio restaurant. I was most looking forward to this but this was my least favourite of all 7. The quality of the meat was not the same as the other restaurants and the atmosphere was a bit meh! Others in my party did thoroughly enjoy their food though, so this is just my opinion. Mikado Tepanyaki- this was very good. The ordering was a bit rushed and we had to initially ask a few times for more wine, but the service then picked up. The live cooking is interactive and the food was delicious. Mashua was our last meal last night. It’s Japanese and Peruvian fusion. The menu is a bit out there but we all tried new things; octopus and ceviche. It’s not to everyone’s taste (including mine) but love to try new things. The soup and main dishes were amazing though. You can order steak, prawn and chicken either grilled or in the wok. The restaurant is lovely and we had a fab waiter called Cristian who took a lot of time to explain what each thing in the menu was. I’m glad we tried this as it’s somewhere we wouldn’t visit back home. Sun- it’s very hot!! Bring lots of sun cream and tops for the kids. Remember a hat too! Beach- some days there was a lot of seaweed but the guys are there all day every day clearing it. Bits of Tulum beach are rocky but just walk along a bit towards La Gran Tortuga entrance and it’s more Sandy. The Coba beach is much better, hardly any seaweed or rocks- it’s only about 10 mins along. Excursions - we booked Xel-ha and Xcaret direct and made our own way they’d and back via a taxi. It was quite expensive but still worked out cheaper than adding on the transport option; plus you have the benefit of going and coming back when it suits you rather than a schedule. These parks are amazing. Water shoes are essential. We also done the snorkelling, zip wires and 4x4 quad biking. We booked this through Destino Riviera. I would highly recommend this trip. Note though; the zip wire is 100 feet high ams 1 km long. Totally took me out of my comfort zone but loved it! We also booked our airport transfers with Destino riviera too. We went into play del Carmen 2 nights using taxi and collectivo. The collectivo is great but you do have a bit of a walk to get to 5th Avenue, about 20/25 mins. 5th Avenue had great shops and is very lively at night. We were with the kids so didn’t go into any of the places. We had a meal one night and street food the other; both were great! Staff- the stafff at this hotel are brilliant. We haven’t met a ride or unhelpful person in 2 weeks. They honestly can’t do enough for you; with or without tips. We did tip throughout the holiday, usually 20 or 50 pesos at the bars or for services and 200 for evening meals. This is obviously different for everyone. I hope this has been helpful. I need to get back to pack 4 cases 😩😬😭

Best family holiday ever! Me, my fiancé and my 3 year old visited Bahia Principe Grand Tulum from 4th to 14th of September and it was absolutely incredible! I was worried about some of the negative reviews but in all honesty- ignore them! The weather was brilliant, we risked rainy season so it was a little quieter and cheaper and has 9.5 days of glorious sunshine. I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 starts, it was almost perfect. So here’s my pros and cons list. Pros: - Extremely clean everywhere - Staff are kind, friendly and accommodating and amazing with children - Drinks can be made as strong as you like - The new refurbished, deluxe ocean view rooms are incredible! - The entertainment was top notch- especially the ‘Origen’ show - Restaurants are easy to book- just download the app and get in there quick as they book up quickly. Our faves were Thali, Tequila and the teppanyaki restaurant, all delish Cons: - Mosquitoes! And lots of them- take plenty of bug spray - Dolphins in captivity. Claims to be an ‘eco resort’ and even has an eco dedicated site ironically next to these poor dolphins who are in a swimming pool sized area. Hated this! - All dining areas are beautiful but sit in an AC or fan area for the buffet as it’s humid - Not all buffet food is labelled so can be tricky to navigate as a vegetarian! Also in certain restaurants veggie options aren’t available so check the menus beforehand Better drinks in the mini fridge would be good and room service would be awesome but we weren’t expecting that as it wasn’t a listed service. Overall we would definitely recommend and definitely come back, a lush, gorgeous paradise that we are sorely missing.

The resort itself is quite nice. The layout is nice. Nothing is a long walk, but you will be walking. The paths, hallways, pool decks and grounds are meticulously maintained. The rooms are comfortable, quiet, clean and well maintained. The service is great. My only complaint in the whole place is the food at the buffet. I find the buffet to be small, repetitive, bland and boring. I eat anything and everything. I tried everything. Literally everything. If you scout the whole thing first, you can cobble together a dish that works. I’m just use to that dish already being together. Like chicken with roasted onion and pineapple on rice. There’s never any theme. Nothing is mixed. Anyway, i give the buffet 2.5 stars. You wont starve, but you’ll never say wow, that was delicious.

We visited the week of September 10 and were pleasantly surprised by this resort. We have been to numerous 4-5 star resorts in Mayan Riviera but the Bahia Principe Tulum was really the best: Time of year: we prefer May or September because it’s less busy as most kids are in school. It’s also still hot but cools down with some light showers over night. This also means the ocean and pool waters are warm enough for babies and kids. Transport from the airport: check with your tour company and consider private transport. This resort is over an hour drive from Cancun airport so if the transportation is dropping off people at other resorts, you may end up with a 3 hr commute. We made this mistake when we arrived and then paid for private transport upon departure to save time. Checkin: completely smooth and didn’t have to wait as we checked in during the evening. During early afternoons we did see lineups from big group arrivals. However, front desk is managed by 3-5 counters so checkin is faster than other resorts we’ve been to. Rooms: we started with a premium suite which was newly renovated and nice. However, we have 2 kids, 1 being a baby who is used to sleeping in darkness. On the second day, we upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite which cost around $200 USD for the entire week. This was a lifesaver as the baby got to sleep through the night and so did the rest of us! The change of rooms was a simple transition completed during the afternoon and brought us right infront of the kid’s club and pools. Pools: there’s around 3 regular pools (1 quiet pool with less loud music) and 3 kids waterpark/pool/spray parks. Our kids absolutely loved all the pools. The kids pools were shallow so our 6 yr old could swim without a life jacket. The baby really enjoyed the spray park area. We also took a trolly to the sister resort Bahia Principe Coba for a different kids water park which was amazing. Kids club: the entertainers were amazing and we saw them take the kids around the resort everyday, laughing and having fun. Our kids didn’t participate in the club and we opted instead for babysitting for extra fee on 2 occasions to have some quiet adult time. The babysitters (Carmen and Yaros) were great and very caring. We were surprised with how much our kids enjoyed their time with them since they normally have trouble being apart from us. Food: we ate at the buffet for breakfast and 4 dinners. The food was better than most buffets I’ve visited at other resorts and have a good variety every night. Comparatively, Bahia principe buffet had more seafood and meat selection than others. We also ate at the Mexican, modern Gourmet and Brazilian restaurants and they were fantastic. The food quality and flavours were very good. Interestingly, the service at the buffet were always on par or better than what we received at the restaurants. Bars: there were multiple bars all over the resort and we never had to wait long for a drink. As well, we were always greeted with smiles and jokes all day with the bartenders event when they seemed very tired from a long day. Beach: it was never too busy, the sand was beautiful and soft and the cleaning crew was always out cleaning up the washed up seaweed (which is common this time of year). The most important thing to note is that there are no local vendors on this beach so we were able to enjoy our time without being asked to buy things. Only downside we found was that the lunch bar by the kids pool (Food Truck) had limited selection consisting of burgers, burritos, quesadillas and nuggets. Since we were too lazy to get dressed to eat at the buffet, we mostly ate lunch at the Food Truck which resulted in the same lunch every day. However, it did save us time that we could spend at the pool or for a nice afternoon nap. Overall, this resort exceeded our expectations, especially for the medium price. When we return to Mexico in the future, this will be our go-to resort!!!!!

This is great hotel for families with kids. They definitely cater to families and there’s tons of activities for the kids to do. I stayed there for a week. Here’s my review on this hotel: Concier/Services: the service here is excellent. They are quick to solve any issues you may have an always willing to help. Room: I recommend to upgrade to a 1 bedroom. They are spacious, specially for family of 4 or more. The rooms are fairly clean. It has a small fridge with couple of beers, coke and Diet Coke. They also leave water. I recommend to get a room near the kids swimming pool to be closer to it. Kids swimming area: the area is one of the best I’ve ever seen. There are slides for kids that can go to, a splash park for little ones to run around and get wet and a playground near by. And the lifeguards did an amazing job in keeping kids in check who were doing unsafe stuff. There’s also an outdoor restaurant near by the swimming area called “the truck” which is perfect for those who want to keep swimming and want a quick bite. The truck restaurant serve food like nuggets, burgers, quesadillas and quesadillas. You can also get drinks at the bar and ice cream. Restaurants: Buffet: the buffet was very good, lots to choose from. I definitely enjoy the Mexican area, although I wish they had more non-fried tortillas available to eat. The one thing that I wish they changed is that the kids area had sandwiches or food that were spicy. I had to taste the food before serving it to my little ones. Tequila restaurant: great Mexican restaurant. A lot of great food but it was more of a tex-mex style rather then traditional. The service was great. I definitely recommend to try the ceviche area, it has a variety of ceviche that is to die for. Don Pablo: this restaurant beats all others that I went to. The appies were delicious. I had oysters as an appie, a type of steak as an entree that was very tender and juicy. I had a chocolate dessert which it was well balanced and not too sweet or bitter. I would eat in this restaurant twice if I could. Gran Tortuga: I was excited to try this restaurant as is Brazilian and since I had Brazilian many times before I was expecting similar results. I was a bit disappointed. The meats not exactly what I expected. A lot of pork, not enough beef. The service was excellent though, just the food was not what I expected. Overall the hotel was amazing in every aspect of my family trip. Friendly service, great food, and I love that they had a lot to offer for families. We will be coming back to this hotel in the future.

This resort is an absolute dream! Every aspect of this resort, from the food, bar, entertainment and staff, was unmatched. I would come back to this resort in an absolute heartbeat. The food was to die for oh my goodness. Try new things and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Everything was AMAZING. The grounds were kept in pristine condition and the employees worked so hard to keep it as such. The serving staff (shout out to Jorge at the Food Truck!!) were friendly, welcoming and had great English! They were so attentive and made sure all of our needs were met. The entertainment staff - Eder!!!!!! - always had us entertained and made sure we were always dancing and having fun. Such a great group of people honestly. The beach was kept as clean as it possibly could be with the influx if seaweed. I cannot say one negative thing about this resort. If you're debating on choosing this resort, this is your sign to book!

As I sit here waiting for my coach to take me back to the airport I can seriously say the last 10 days have been an absolute pleasure, The plus points are the facility’s, the grounds are amazing, they even have a little buggy train to get you around, the grounds are immaculate , Food, so many places to eat your spoilt for choice, the buffet had so much choice , Staff, they are amazing, big shout out to “Karen” who was serving at the outside bar by the lobby in the evenings, your smile and friendliness was infectious , you made the evenings, Rooms, I upgraded to a premium room, block 41, the rooms and cleaning staff was 10/10, Location , perfect, right on the beach, couldn’t be more close, Cons : there was a lot of entertainment , but more needs to be done for the international traveler, a lot was “local entertainment “, which was good, but more variety , I flew with TUI and was inundated with info, so very happy with the Reps, So overall a great hotel with lots to do and great staff, I’ll be returning next year

Just returned from 2 weeks at the BP Grand in Tulum. We previously stayed at the Akumal resort and tried Tulum this time; we were not disappointed!!! Here are my observations: 1. Room................ Junior Suite (basic) not a renovated suite but close to the lobby and main restaurant. Cleaning was done daily but strangely I had to call again and again for towels, soap, toilet paper, facial tissue because they were not replaced. We happen to be Privilege Club members and our concierge was able to handle all these little things to our satisfaction. The room is large and the bathroom adequate but could do with some touch up and repair of the shower which was wobbly. 2. Food................. the Yukatan restaurant offered really good food choices and we ate breakfast and lunches there. Even 2 evening buffets which were very good. Special mention to waiter Edwin who together with his collegues in a jewel. 3. A la carte restaurants............... we had no problems with reservations and were able to visit several restaurants: La Trattoria.... excellent and good ambience Le Gourmet......great food and service Don Pablo.........great food and service but cannot recommend because the place is noisy with large tables who don't care if they disturb other diners. Felt like sitting in a cafeteria or Sportsbar. No for us!!! Manager does not try to moderate the noise level. Dolce Vita.........okay Italian restaurant with efficient wait staff (Alberto was great) Alux (Sian Kaan).... excellent food and service and great ambience; mellow conversation and no loud, obnoxious conversations. Cafeteria at Sian Kaan.... pleasantly surprised, very good service and food, good ambience and really nice to go there. Maiko..... Japanese.............great service and nice place, food offered limited choices and was not to our liking. Having lived in Japan I expected a bit more. Los Corales (Akumal) outside restaurant by the Infinity pool. Food good, service slow and inconsistent. We went there twice and each time it was the same. Sluggish to take order, long wait for some food items and only after a reminder we received our dessert. Gran Tortuga Brasilian restaurant (Tulum),,,,, great meat choices and friendly wait staff. Comfortable ambience on our first visit, loud obnoxious drunk people (tequila shots) on the second visit. Noise was deafening but once they left, it was pleasant. My favorite.... grilled pineapple.... yum. Tequila .... (Tulum).... nice place, buffet style Mexican food, 4.A word about the Privilege Club staffTulum... outstanding concierges (Carlos, Gabbi, Maurizzio, Morgan and Emmanuel) and great and tireless bar staff. Always a friendly smile and nothing is too much for them. Kudo's!!!!!! 5. Tranfer to and from the resort................ we opted for Private transfer and it worked well. Always confusing when arriving at the Cancun airport, but the pick up from the hotel is flawless. 6. Scuba diving...............if you like to do it, try Scubaquatic on the Tulum premises. Great staff there and fun to go out and see the underwater life. Scuba diving is an extra charge. 7. The beach still is covered daily with Sargassum grass and the crew works tireless to clean it up. One can use the beach but I did stick to the pools (there are 3 of them) 8. A word about the dress code..................it lists that most a la carte restaurants require men to wear long pants and shirts but the dress code is not enforced. Therefore, people show up in shorts, t-shirts, sandals at fine dining, while others are dressed smartly. Just do away with the dress code because people will not adhere to it. And honestly, a pair of nice shorts for men and women and a top, and maybe a nice shirt for men should be acceptable for all restaurants. After all, people are on vacation. In summation, yes there are some problems at this resort (have not found a place that is truly perfect), but overall it was very enjoyable and reasonable priced. We will be back.
