The Grand Palladium Colonial Resort & Spa boasts a range of amenities, including multiple pools and diverse entertainment, which guests have called out for praise. Nestled in a location that marries convenience with natural splendor, the resort offers a vibrant atmosphere with spirited entertainment. Despite this, some travelers have noted the need for room updates and more consistent housekeeping. Service experiences vary, with commendations for staff friendliness contrasted by reports of slow responses and occasional staffing issues. Moreover, guests warn that the value proposition is diminished by unexpected costs and the high price of certain services.

We've been to many all inclusives across Mexico, Dominican, Cuba. Grand Palladium Colonial is one of the best hotels we've been to, and we'll try to come back! The hotel grounds are quite large, and most of it is covered by trees/forest with the paths in between and villas spread around. The feeling is very lush and private. There's a lot of walking (and we like walking)! But for those with mobility issues there's tons of electric carts zooming around all the time. The roads circling the ground are marked as a 4km running route to give you some idea. There's tons of animals everywhere: iguanas, agoutis, coatis, all sorts of birds, including chachalakas and pelicans that always hang around the beach. Now, it's not a single hotel, but 4 of them, which are but the different sections. TRS Yukatan is a bit more exclusive adult only with their own restaurants and, funny enough, lack of a proper beach. The other three: White Sands, Colonial, Kantenah, share the same set of facilities and we could use any that we choose. Colonial/Kantenah grounds and restaurants are busier, whereas White Sands is quieter. We tended to eat breakfast and lunch in White Sands buffet as it was less crowded with no lines and food being about the same. Food: the food in buffets was pretty good. Not super fancy and not much in terms of day to day variety, but plenty options and it tasted good. Surprisingly decent coffee! We never had problems with the service, it was always quite prompt and good, unlike in many all inclusive restaurants. A la carte restaurants: booking those was PITA as we had 2 rooms, but the app wouldn't let you book more than 2 people in a single room. We had to use concierge for this, but there was almost no normal times available. We only managed to get into 3 restaurants over the course of the week. Of these Brazilian and the El Dorado stake house were great. Argentinian was a bit of a let down - the food was decent, but service horrible, we waited for 45 minutes for someone to come to our table to even offer us water and ask for drinks order. Beach: it's really nice and very long with many loungers, never had a problem of finding one if coming before 11am. Now, you can't enter the ocean from most of the beach as it is extremely rocky. There are just a couple places where the entrance is sandy, just across from the main pool. You can't miss it, just see where all the people hang out in the water. Once you enter, the swimming is amazing. The best off the shore snorkeling I've ever had! There are a few small reefs closer to the buoys with TONS of fish! I have seen stingrays every day. Pools: we didn't really used those given how nice the beach is. But there is a dedicated small water park for kids, and a quiet secret adult pool. For some reason they run out of towels by the main pool every evening, so if you need to exchange the towels late in the day, try your luck at the secret pool bar - it's the same barmen who also handle towels. Or check at the White Sands towel hut. Rooms: they are fine. Quite private, given the villas are all spread out in the forest, so nice to hang out at the balcony. We had chachalaka birds visit ours, which was fun. Service is also mostly fine, though at times inconsistent, such as not all towels would get replaced, One weird thing was the absence of the hair dryers in the rooms. We had to ask for one and keep asking like 5 times over 2 days before we finally got one. Every time it was like "it would take 5 minutes", and nothing happens. Overall we had a great time, really enjoyed the beach and the grounds, saw tons of wildlife, running, swimming and flying around.

Hotel's Favorite
This was our first trip back after Covid and we worried things would have changed. However, the hotel is still very special and the staff work so hard to make everything perfect. There are lots of new staff who are working their socks off to get trained up. It was very hot for our stay (June 24 to July 8) it was pretty much 32 degrees everyday. Our room - we stayed in a Romance Villa Room 3003 which was really close to the main pool and the beach. The room is lovely and spacious, with an outside shower as well and indoor one. The pools are well maintained, the secret pools are our personal favourites. The beach is lovely, there has been a lot of comments about the seaweed, however there is a small barrier in the sea now that reduces the amount, and staff clear it daily so it is very minimal. It is an issue along the whole coast, and each hotel does its best. It is as people say ‘mother nature’. The pools seem busier this time, but beds are plentiful. The pool side waitresses work so hard bringing us drinks (make sure you tip them for their hard work!) they even find you when your in the pool for a dip and drop off your drinks! What service!! The Food is great too, there is always something to cater for all tastes in the buffet restaurant’s. The a la carte’s are also worth trying. Our favourites this time were the Thai - Chang Thai and Sumptuori for the Japanese Cooking Show. (The only a la cartes that require booking are the Japanese and the Fish Restaurant - Poseidon. There is sometimes a wait for a table, but staff work to get you in quickly so after a couple of drinks at the bar you are usually called through. Buffets at breakfast, our favourite was La Hacienda (it gets really busy around 10am) so earlier the better of you don’t want to wait. But again the food was lovely. The sports bar is nice and cool with its air con, and the place for 24/7 food, the Jalapeños and Chicken Wings are A good snack! Note the The snack bar on the beach Las Olas is no longer 24/7 for food. We had room service one evening which there is now a $15 tray charge (which if fair I think, as takes time and staff to deliver it) The Wildlife here is great, Coatis and Racoons as well as lots of Iguanas. And there is a Monkey around we are yet to see this time! When we came this time it was Mosquito season, so bring some repellant. It is again nature, and staff also suffer so don’t go blaming the staff! Water Sports I scuba and would highly recommend Aqua Excursions based by the beach are great! I did some local dives and we saw a pod of about 15 Dolphins off shore at the front of the hotel! We also went to Cozumel for Dive and Snorkel (can snorkel if don’t dive). First dive saw my first Shark! It was amazing! We also swam with Whale Sharks and that really was an amazing trip!! There are always a variety of reviews on trip advisor and it’s sometimes difficult to judge what are genuine grips or just general moaners. We have noticed a slight change to the hotel since pre-covid, but that is only to be expected. Some long time staff have gone, and as I say they are getting their staffing numbers back up post pandemic. Every member of staff from checking, concierge, room cleaners, maintenance staff, bar staff and everyone else in between are so pleasant, helpful and friendly. I think the guests themselves sometimes Forget what everyone has been through and sometimes less forgiving than they should be for things that really don’t matter! I for one have nothing but praise for everyone we have had any contact with. And we can’t wait to be back in April 2023!

This resort is extraordinary large with access to three adjacent resorts all located on the same property. If you have young children this resort will be very accommodating with activities and kids areas. There are a ton of adult only areas so it’s a good mix. Food was great at most restaurants.

Version 6: 24th of Feb 2024 Grand Palladium Colonial Management MX, I want my family's full refund! I am waiting... ***THIS REVIEW WILL CONTINUE BEING UPDATED WITH DEFICIENCIES UNTIL WE HAVE BEEN FAIRLY COMPENSATED.*** -CHARGED EXTRA FOR THEIR MISTAKES. We are still being charged additional fees for the room we originally requested. My wife and daughter currently struggle with stairs so we asked for the main floor. I am 6'3 and don't fit in doubles beds so we requested a king size. Neither was accommodated. The front desk maintains ignorance even after being shown the messages our travel agent has sent the hotel. -WE HAVE BEEN HARASSED HERE! Recieved calls to our room at night trying to sell us excursions 9:30p. This did not go over well. We have a 6yr old trying to sleep... Spoke to the front desk and requested no more calls to our room. WE GOT ANOTHER CALL AT 11:15P!!! Exhausted from travel and other issues we had to deal with, furious at this point, I returned the phone to the front desk and told them we were done and trying to sleep. -MOLD!!! Is this not a health concern??? Push the toilet flush buttons and see what's growing inside! -FILTHY BEDDING! . They gave us new ones ... and remade the bed with the dirty ones!!! EVERYDAY of our stay! -OLD RAZER FOUND IN OUR SHOWER from a previous occupant? Very unhygienic. Who knows what the owner of that razor, has going on medically. Could be contaminated! Have we not been dealing with a COVID pandemic these last 4 years??? -BROKEN LAMP in our old room -BROKEN TOILET PAPER HOLDER in our new room -DISGUSTING BATHROOMS -Shuttle carts in bad shape -CHEATING TAXI DRIVER "Miguel" took us to Playa del Carmen. On the way back he picked up 2 other groups. We were ok for the first, but when he asked if he could pickup the second, I said I wanted a reduced rate. He just laughed and said he couldn't drive us for free (I never asked for a free ride???). There was a major accident so he had to drop us off 2kms away. None of this is what I paid for. My wife has medical issues and barely made it back. Fortunately the BELL BOY: FRANCESCO, THE ONLY ONE TO HELP ME!!! Was successful in facilitating, the half refund I asked from Miguel, the taxi driver (he did half the job so I considered that fair at that time). Francesco also talked to management on my request, on having that driver banned from the resort area. Also, shootout to DANIEL! He served me at Xtra Time and the Lobby. He got me to take a fun picture with him so I would have at least 1 good one in my album. Terrible experience! Will not be returning. Not even to Mexico because of this hotel! Sebastien

TLDR: Perfectly decent all-inclusive that doesn't break the bank. Quality is on par with pricing as compared to similar AIs in the area. Wouldn't recommend for more than 4 nights, though. Longer version: have been to many AIs around the world of all standards, family & adults-only. 5-star this place is not, but for a short stay with kids, it's perfectly fine. You get what you pay for, since it's relatively cheap compared to nicer places. Rooms and some areas are a bit tired, service is so-so, food is okay but nothing special. Beach is gorgeous, pool is huge and clean. This resort has some weird things that we didn't like - the balcony door has no handle on the outside (though I think the Colonial rooms are the oldest/most tired, which is why it's cheaper), so you're forced to leave it open and let in bugs and the AC turns off. The mini golf course was obviously designed by someone who's never played mini golf (but hey it's free & something to do), the sports bar is borderline horrible - a few arcade games that need $$ and the only 'free' things are an awful pool table with balls missing and ONE Xbox with ONE controller that the staff claim is broken when they can't be bothered to help you. Lastly, the beach "snack bar" isn't a snack bar at all, but you have to sit down and dine, which seems utterly bizarre because the entire appeal of these sort of places is grab-and-go beach food (every single other beach resort I've ever been to has a quick order window where you get basic fries/burger/nachos made quick & fresh and you take it away to eat at your lounger or whatever). We were starving and there were no tables free, so we wound up sneaking burgers and taking them back to our chairs. Also, the main buffet restaurant is actually too small for the size of the resort - there's plenty of food and buffet space, but not enough tables! Lines for breakfast get long & tedious. The other restaurant for breakfast/lunch is actually bigger but not as good. It's really weird. Despite other reviews, we had no trouble finding a la carte availability. Our stay was short, so we opted for the Italian, which was definitely mediocre. Probably should've picked something else, but my expectations were low, so it was fine. The buffet food was decent, nothing special. Really good, varied selection. Some dishes were cold/bland, but one could find something to eat every meal for the most part. Again, I'm glad we only stayed 3 nights - I think more than 4 would be too long for the quality of food/service. Service in the buffet restaurants is mixed. One breakfast we weren't served once - no water, coffee, anything. Sometimes we'd wait ages to order the initial drinks. But sometimes it was prompt and fine, so really just depends. Bar service was also varied. The pool bar was friendly and prompt. The lobby bar was disappointing with low quality drinks and hurried, disinterested bartenders. There was always a line at the beach bar, so I imagine they need more staff. The quality/level of liquor offered as part of the AI reflects the price/level of this hotel - it was pretty poor compared to other resorts. Room is tired but serviceable. It was always promptly and well-cleaned, though, so commendations to the maid service. The entire resort is very clean, actually. I LOVE that the beach is RIGHT next to the pool at the Colonial. That's a huge plus. Nothing is too far away despite the resort looking big on the map. I also loved that your room key is built in your bracelet - those two things are big winners. My kids loved the local fauna all over the resort. Side note: we got stuck in HORRIBLE traffic on the way from the airport. Not the resort's fault, but do note it's 1hr+ in perfect conditions and if there's any accident on the coastal highway, you're basically screwed because there's no other way. I read a lot about traffic to the airport also being an issue, but our return journey was smooth.

Romance Villa was very serene with a hammock on the balcony that overlooks the jungle and you can hear the ocean on the other side! Very quiet and romantic. Bed was king size and of average comfort…that being said, who goes on vacation to spend time worry about a bed? We slept perfectly fine! Cleanliness was very good throughout the resort and all lobbies. Good at the buffets was as expected but there are options for everyone! We highly recommend the Japanese, Thai and Steakhouse El Dorado. Very tasty!!! The Italian restaurant was not of quality options or taste in our opinions. The beach is busy, they keep it clean and they drag the sea-weed every morning. Highly recommend waking up for the sunrises and walk along the shoreline! Marcelino the bartender at the adults only pool was the BEST! El Secreto is the adults only pool and he is very kind and serves the best margaritas, mojitos of any/all flavors and you have to try his banana-mama blended drink if you’re into something fruity with alcohol or without! 😊

5 out of 5 - Great food Great service. Jaime at El Dorado restaurant very attentive. Totally family friendly. The food selections are at the different restaurants are a step up. Be sure to reserve your restaurant early as they fill up the reservations quickly. I would not spend the money on bottle service unless money is not a factor, a little pricey. Included drinks and wine selection is on target.

Upon arrival our connecting suite that I had booked and confirmed was unavailable. We are two adults traveling with 5 children and had to be split up for one night, then out of rooms from 12-4 the next day while we waited for a new connecting suite. We had medication that needed to be refrigerated during that time and we had to work very hard to have 3 different people try to help us at the front desk secure a spot in a fridge since we were out of our rooms because of their in correct booking. The rooms are outdated, with extremely dim lighting, the rooms service takes a minimum of 1 hour and they were out of half the items on our last day. They advertise that golf carts are running all the times for rides, but they need to add about 10 more to their fleet because wait times are very long. The hotel employees were friendly, minimal language barrier, and they are hard working. The pool is beautiful, the ocean is gorgeous. The food is below average for the cost per person at this resort.
