Nestled on a pristine beach, Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort is frequently commended for its cleanliness, from the immaculate sands to the well-kept rooms. While the spacious accommodations offer sea views, some guests note they could benefit from modernization. The resort's atmosphere, with its focus on nature and live entertainment, is deemed relaxing, although areas of the property are suggested to need a refresh. Service is a standout, with staff garnering accolades for their dedication. Despite the resort's amenities and location earning high marks, some guests question the value, pointing to the cost of extras and the dining experience.

Just back for a 14 night stay at Akumal Bay. We found the hotel staff really friendly and helpful when needed. Special mention goes to the girls at kids club who were fantastic with the kids. The club was never too busy and they did fun crafts and games outdoors. My 7 year old says kids club was the best part of the holiday! Alexandro is a great addition to the team and has such passion for protecting the turtles in the area. We went along to his turtle talk and really enjoyed it. The session singers and musicians were just enough after dinner - no disco required! Restaurants were great. The a la carte situation confused me at first but if you go for 6pm you are almost guaranteed to get a table. If it was full the hostess would give you a time to come back so you could go and get a drink then come back at your allocated time. All the a la cartes were delicious particularly Kooba where we visited twice. The buffet restaurant tended to be better at lunch than the evening but still a good standard. The addition of BBQs around the pool gave a good alternative at lunch time to the snack bar or buffet. Housekeeping came every day to change towels and top up your room mini-bar. Special mention to the sushi guy, eggs lady at breakfast, Holly at Kooba, all the kids club crew & Alexandro! I’d suggest drinking bottled water only as we were all hit by stomach upsets. And pack pepto bismal for kids and Imodium for adults! It’ll be worth it! You can walk into Akumal along the beach if you need to visit any convenience stores but there was no working ATM and the hotel don’t exchange cash. We saw turtles and rays daily snorkelling just outside the hotel. Also pack sea shoes and don’t forget your snorkel. We visited over Easter and it never felt overly busy. No Easter activities for the children which would have been a nice addition.

Hotel's Favorite
We have been travelling to this resort for the last 16 years. There is no other place in Mexico we would stay. Emanuele Bissoli the Guest service manager is the best I have ever dealt with. He always try's to give us the room we request and always answers any questions promptly. From the moment the plane lands and Canada Transfers is waiting to pick us up (The best Transfer company). Once at the resort the front desk staff are amazing. Ivania has been there the last few years and she is wonderful. We usually stay in a penthouse and the view from the jacuzzi at night is stunning. The rooms are always clean and refreshed daily with anything you need. I am a vegetarian and all restaurants have many choices. The food is delicious and the service even better. All the staff are great a few of our favorites are Bartenders Felipe, Clemente and Wilberth (who came with the building and has dropped three pant sizes since he started lol). Waiter at dinner Juan Carlos (best ever), Overnight restaurant Jesus, Breakfast Buffet Louis ( the nicest man), Adriana and I will call her Egg lady, I cannot believe I have forgotten her name as she is the kindest person you will meet. Beach Manager German who is the hardest working dude! I know there are people I am forgetting so just no there is not one in the last 16 years that has not been kind and great at what they do. Last but not least I will mention the patrons, that is the people we have met there and continue to meet there every year. People that now will be our life long friends. Thanks you to everyone involved in making this resort our home away from home.

The kids club teachers especially Dani and Karla were incredible to my kids. Since day one Karla was so warm and welcoming and her English was on point. I highly recommend for any parents who need a mini date or just some alone time. 10/10 service

The hotel offers an absolutely amazing experience which is hard to match even at higher prices. Peaceful area, great drinks and food, and an awesome beach with turtles, rays, tropical fish and an actual reef pretty much just outside one’s window! All buildings are facing the sea so in contrast to most alternatives you’ll be living at the beach rather than in front of some massive built-up area with swimming pools and such. We had an issue with the first room which was promptly solved and in fact we got an upgrade as a result! Special thanks for that amazing service goes to Carolina from PR and Jorge the reception manager. Me and my wife will definitely be coming back there.

We just got back today from a 10 day vacation there, it was our third time back. Aracely at the main and later at the lobby bar was our highlight of the evenings. She was so fun, personable, attentive and always remembered our favorite drinks. Along with each and every employee there really works hard to make your vacation enjoyable.

We love this resort and have been coming for many years. The friendly staff, beautiful beach, and wonderful food make this resort! Stayed in remodeled room in Bldg 3 and was beautiful, thanks guest services. Favorite thing was separation between shower and bathroom, loved new decor as well. Love new snack bar, breakfast quesadillas were my favorite. Zaisha with Fidelity was wonderful to work with from beginning to end of trip from helping with rooms, reservations, and making my birthday extra special (fabulous communication). Emanuel was helpful as always, this vacation helped switch our reservation dates to accommodate us to bring our children. German (beach manager) was amazing as always and truly went above and beyond for our family, can’t say thank you enough. He has helped us book fishing trips, with transportation, making sure we had our accommodations and just being a helpful friendly face. Kids club was great, Karla/Danielle were awesome with our kids. I highly recommend utilizing this, my kids who are 6 and 10 love and look forward to it. Ivania with reception was wonderful and helpful with providing us exchange for our money, information and wonderful smile. Carlos by reception was always helpful, helped book painting class. All of Activities department did great job with water aerobics/volleyball/dancing lessons. Alejandro did excellent in educating us with the turtle class, I highly recommend attending this class. Helps educate on times to see turtles and what to do and not do to protect yourself and turtles. Great service from Wilbert in Lobby Bar and Wilbert in Buffett. Martha provided great facial and message. All staff were great and wish I could mention them all. Love this resort and recommend! We visited Akumal Natural Rescue and highly recommend this tour. They rescue animals and you get a great small tour that is hands on and has beautiful Cenote at end. Caesar was a wonderful guide.

We have stayed at this same resort 6 times now and everyone always makes us feel at home!!! German is always there to greet us and see if we need anything every day. Wilbert with the a great attitude and the best coffee/day drinks. Emanuele to always make sure our stay is great from start to finish. Ariel with the massive amount of energy and engaging/entertaining for all of us, especially our kids! Able, the one man band playing great music on the beach! The sushi chefs are always awesome (I am drawing a blank on their names but there were two different ones while we were there in March). And the kids club girls that are always amazing with our kids on every trip! I would make one recommendation on the dinner for kids club timing. Have it start when the restaurants open at 6pm and end at 8pm like it used to. That way parents can have enough time to finish their meals and the kids do not have to come into the restaurants and potentially disturb other guests! Aside from that, all changes are positive and we had another great trip!

I really enjoyed this stay at Akumal Bay. A big thank you to Dani (towel mgr), Daniela (buffet mgr), Adal & Torbinaro (buffet), Aurora (cheerful egg chef), Ingrid/Ingrit/Jose/Concepcion/Luis/Bernardino (Mexican restaurant), Whilbur (lobby bar), Karen & Miguel (paddle boards), Carolina (public relations), German (mgr) & many, many more friendly & helpful faces who made me feel welcome. All staff at the resort are very kind & work extremely hard. You can see the care that they all put into their work. Yoga, Meditation & Spa: Morning meditation (7:30 am) followed by a Yoga class with Ben made for a great start to the day. The 5pm quarts bowl meditations with Nadia were very special. The main yoga Shala by building 4 was closed for repairs so we practiced in the smaller area by the Peruvian restaurant & the spa upper floor for evening meditation. The Mayan cleansing 90 minute massage with Gilberta was deeply healing. Hydrotherapy included with treatments was really enjoyable. Paula, the spa manager made great recommendation & is very capable. Nature: Carlos with his handsome hawk Luca are wonderful to visit with & speak with about nature at the resort. Alejandro Milan (marine biologist & activities) shared a passionate 1hr talk about the majestic turtles of the Bay. I also heard Alejandro explain in a caring way to a well meaning couple that feeding the resident iguanas with the property Noni tree fruit instead of any other food from human buffet (including fruit) helps ensure that the iguanas don’t experience digestive issues. Beach: I personally loved the fact that this Bay is rocky as it’s more natural & with only 2 resorts here. I just highly, highly recommend to bring water shoes. Most importantly what you can’t get in most other places is the proximity to the turtles. Also, newest resorts are not built this close to the ocean anymore. This is what I believe gives a special feel to this resort. It’s true that guests try to ‘towel book’ sun chairs & Bali beds early in the morning, but since people move around during the day, I always managed to find a shady spot even later in the day, especially in the less busy areas of building 4 & 3. Food & Drinks:: I always found some enjoyable bites & not having to stress over restaurant reservations also adds to the ease of being here. My tip would be to take small bites first or share a dish with your travel mate(s) to find your favourites. Overall the food is fresh & tastes natural. Paella, tacos & BBQ on different nights by the pool are a nice touch of variety. The daily relaxed sushi by the pool adds a nice touch. The drinks mostly seem pre-mixed but there will always be something that will satisfy. I enjoyed the passion fruit cocktail for example. Rooms: Big plus is that all rooms face the ocean. The rooms are clean & functional with one of the buildings undergoing a room refresh. My penthouse room was in building 2 & closest to the lobby bar/entertainment area & with the main pool in front. The live band ends at 10 - 10:30 pm, so the music didn’t disturb. The view from the roof top was stunning & any noise from the pool would not bother me as I was always outside during the day. Activities: Piano man followed by live band every night is lovely. I’m not a fan of entertainment shows, so this was perfect. Paddle boards, snorkeling, Spanish & dancing lessons, painting class, aqua fitness, volleyball were a great mix in my opinion. The Spanish market by the pool once per week is enjoyable. Guests: It was wonderful to hear many different languages & accents & see the entire demographic spectrum. Multigenerational groups travelling together are a testament to the versatility of this resort. One wish… there is not enough dancing going on…haha (myself included). Not sure why since the musicians are talented. Some guests danced around behind the band area so maybe there needs to be a more out of ‘display’ dancing area or lower light? Hope this is helpful fellow travellers! Enjoy this special place! I plan to return with my hubby next time :)

We spent March 6-13 at Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort. We are a family of 3 with a five year old. We had a wonderful week and felt immediately relaxed as we checked in. The welcome drink and cool towel were lovely after a day of travel. There was a noticeable warmness to almost all of the staff at this resort. Our room was large with a large balcony. We were not in a renovated room but we had no problems and loved the ocean view! The cleaning staff kept everything super clean and left fun towel art that our daughter loved to come back to :) A special shout out to Dani by the pool. He took such good care of us poolside. We spent a lot of time in the main pool which our child loved and so did we with the comfort of a daily day bed. Marissa was also so attentive for all of our drink requests. She was so friendly and quick! The food was great - the buffet and the restaurants were fantastic. They also accommodated with a kids menu if we couldn’t find something our daughter would like. That allowed us to enjoy a la carte options without any stress. We found something to eat at all times. We did have a photography session with Conrado while we were in Akumal. It was a wonderful experience and we walked away with a number of beautiful family shots. conrado was amazing with our daughter and making it a fun experience for us all. We enjoyed the beach as well. Generally entering the water in front of Secrets (the resort beside) to avoid the rocks. We loved seeing turtles, fish, and rays! So much sea life right there! Overall it is a resort we would likely return to. In all our years of travel we have always tried new resorts but Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort has made a lasting impression. It was filled with wonderful staff, great food, a clean and safe space and an overall breathtaking view!
