My wife and I and a couple of our friends just finished a week long trip to the El Dorado Seaside Suites. We stayed in a ground floor room with a patio. Check-in was quick and easy. The problem is that when we checked in they didn't tell us that we had a concierge and that they would make our dining reservations. Two days later we found our concierge (after the other concierges would not help us with reservations). We met with him (Romero I think was his name) and he tried to get us to sign up for a timeshare/membership presentation (think high-pressure sales pitch advertised for one hour but lasts four hours). We told him that we were not interested and he said okay and proceeded to screw up the next two days of dinner reservations. You also had to have a reservation to work out in the gym and he told us that it was impossible for us to get in to the gym at this time as it was booked (he didn't look or inquire, just told us this off the top of his head). He then told us that he had a tour to do and didn't have any more time for us. For the rest of the trip we went to the main lodge and used the main concierge to make our reservations. I enjoy working out and was very frustrated that I could not get a reservation (also frustrated that only 1 of the 3 gyms was open). I went to the gym and met a very very nice person named Sunny. She told me that the gym was seldom full and that I could check everyday at 15 minutes past the hour and if people did not show up I could work out. I was able to work out everyday. Sunny was one of the highlights of the trip. The food was okay for the most part. The Asian themed restaurant and the Italian restaurant were the best to us. Alot of people liked the pub but we found it not as good (we had a filet and it was delivered covered in gravy). You have to get reservations for most of the restaurants and you better do it two days in advance. Since we didn't even know we had a concierge for two days we were way behind. The bars were all great and the orange van/bar that is in the main courtyard at night was fun. The pools were amazing and the property was immaculate. Our room was nice with a great location (2302). the furniture was somewhat dated but fine. Our friends had a TV that would not shut off because the remote battery was out. We hit up our useless concierge and he "submitted a workorder." No batteries were ever delivered. The beaches were less than desirable. I was hoping for some snorkeling off the beach but there were no snorkel locations anywhere near the resort. The beaches were covered with smelly seaweed. The hotel worked hard to clean it but mother nature was pretty determined. There was nothing the hotel could do about the seaweed and it was a problem all along the coast. The one beach they had was about 100 yards long and was surrounded by ugly black sandbags that they used to keep the area calm so they can keep a beach I guess. There was very little to do during the day, no complaining about laying on the beach or by the pool but it's also fun to have activities. The few they had were limited in numbers. It would have also been nice to have a snack shack so that you could get a snack after-hours without ordering room service (that sometimes took hours to get). Bottom line, probably not a place I'm going to re-visit. To much pressure to buy a membership and the concierge thing and the need for reservations was to much of a hassle. Maybe if we would have had a better concierge it would have been a better trip.

To start, the room and pool walk out on the first floor were awesome. Don't be fooled by ordering a swim out though, they have those on the 4 upper levels too and there is a difference. Most of the food we had was great as well. The moment we got to our section of the resort, all we could smell was the algae. It smelled like a dirty bathroom trash can for most of our stay. However our issues started at check in. Nobody directed us to our room or told us there was a shuttle we could take, so we wandered aimlessly to find our room and pool. Then when our room was ready, we had to wait in line for concierge who gave us no direction whatsoever. We didn't know what restaurants were open or when they were open. We fond out the hard way that the only option before noon that didn't include heading to a different part of the resort was room service. Room service sometimes came, some time didn't. Our fridge was not restocked the second day and when we asked, it took hours to get it restocked the next day. We were told how to order covid test, when we asked, but then didnt know where to go get it without asking again. The pool closes at 7pm. Not what we had in mind, maybe great for others. But the purpose of a swim up for us, was to swim at night as well. there was no bar nearby open past 7pm The entertainment was just above mediocre. We could rarely find a shuttle when we needed one. We arent afraid to walk but we came to relax! We had horrible service (30 min for our first drink and 2 hours for our meal) at the Mexican restaurant, on my birthday, which nobody recognized even though the travel agent informed them. In the asian restaurant, there were a ton of mosquitos. One of our table got 11 bites at dinner alone and they were Landing on our food. We scheduled an excursion but had no idea we had a TWO HOUR ride each way to get to it. Our driver didnt understand English well enough to even tell us how long it would be once we realized we had Gone back through Cancun. (yes I know, we should learn to speak the language!) Every time I tried to call front desk or concierge, it went to a full voicemail box so I couldn't even leave a message. Did we relax, yes. Will we be back, no.

We stayed at the Palms side of the resort and it is top notch. It is an all inclusive, adults only, beachfront resort where you can spend 7 days and have enough to do and not leave the resort. Our concierge, Lauren, made sure we did not have any issues. Our butlers Ivan, Ana, and Aurtoro filled every request and many times going above and beyond what we expected. Sandy, Eric and Juan were great activities directors many times dragging our lazy beach butts to do something exciting. Food was awesome with standout restaurants such as Culinarium and La Carreta. Portions were excellent allowing you to get to desert and not be overly full. However if you want two of something just ask. You can eat at a different restaurant every night during a 7 day stay. Pop up food vendors made life so relaxed during the day as you don't have to wait for a table. Just take the food to bali bed and eat on the beach and order another margarita. Don't miss an opportunity to try this resort.
