I ended up not being able to get to my hotel in Valladolid due to construction issues on the toll road and surly toll workers (I'll leave it at that). So, I turned around and headed down 307 toward Tulum. The sheer number of hotels is staggering, BUT finding something comfortable, safe, interesting at the last minute at a reasonable price is a challenge. ... Then, as if a Mayan goddess were watching over me, I found Akumal Natura Glamping ... and wow, just wow. First, the staff were great. An older lady (super kind) working on a computer in the open-air restaurant called for the front desk person (also super kind) and they gave me a glamping unit—at a discount from what was online. So, right off the bat, when I needed help, they did not try to take advantage of me. Instead, they treated me with kindness and honesty. The glamping setup was great, clean, comfy, private bath. The open-air restaurant was quite good. You do need mosquito spray when outside the tent, but that's a given anywhere in Quintana Roo. The setting and vibe of this place are extraordinary: there are two really beautiful cenotes you can swim in on the property, full jungle surroundings and sounds, gorgeous paths and lighting. Parking was right next to the front desk area. Everything felt very safe. I would definitely stay here again. I was in a rental car and the road there is bumpy (as are almost all roads in Yucatan except the highways), but it's really not that far. You drive through a little village, then just follow the GPS for a little ways up the dirt road. Just take it slow and maneuver around the potholes. It's so very worth it!!

We spent a week in the Tulum/Akumal area. And by far this was our most favorite experience. Cesar was our tour guide and he clearly has a passion for the work there, extremely knowledgeable and shared about the flora & fauna. We learned so much during the tour and tasted a tiny pepper. He demonstrated the links between the plant life and animals there, history and the importance of their work to maintain the Eco balance. Strongly recommend bringing deet free insect repellent, as there is an aggressive swarming mosquitoes, they do sell it and it actually works, we bought extra bottles to bring home. There were so many special moments. It’s really hard to pick which one the monkeys were especially adorable and we were allowed to hold their hand & pet them. We gave them peanuts and watched them swing around living their best life, a beautiful surprise when a bunch of wild monkeys chasing each other in the treetops and we just watched them for a while, we never felt rushed. It was amazing. I never thought my life I’d ever see anything like that. Truly special. They had many other animals that they are trying to rehabilitate however someone unfortunately have been abused and neglected, unable to be released so they take so they continue with their care. They need our support to continue their solid work. After learning and interacting with many other animals, and after our very humid walk, we jumped into the cool stunning underground cenote. We were with a small group so we had it all to ourselves a stark difference from the other cenotes we visited. But wait, there’s more! Then onto Milopena Honey tasting from the stingless Mayan, honey bee that only produces very small amounts every year and definitely had a unique floral citrusy flavor, so different from the traditional honey. It was expensive, but it made the perfect gift versus a traditional souvenir. All the proceeds go to their rehabilitation efforts. They have an on-site restaurant that provides many great options. We had the garlic whitefish it was excellent. I know there’s tons of things to do in the Yucatán but this definitely has to be in the top five.

Hello! 😊 Thank you so much for sharing such a detailed and enthusiastic review of your experience at our rehabilitation center and cenote. We are truly delighted to hear that this visit was the highlight of your time in the Tulum/Akumal area. César and our entire team are passionate about what we do, and it fills us with pride to know that you enjoyed not only learning about the flora, fauna, and history but also the unique moments with the animals we care for so lovingly. The monkeys often steal the hearts of our visitors, and it seems they did the same with you! 🐒 Thank you for mentioning our mosquito recommendations and for supporting our initiatives by taking home the Melipona honey, a true treasure of the region. We're thrilled to hear you also enjoyed our delicious food at the restaurant—our garlic fish is one of our favorites too! Your support and kind words inspire us to continue working for the well-being of the animals and the preservation of the ecosystem. It would be a pleasure to welcome you again in the future. Thank you for helping us make a difference! 🌿💚 Warm regards,

We did the Natura Rescue tour for the 2nd time. Cesar was our guide. The experience was even better than our first! So fun to spend time in the jungle learning about the native species (and a few non-native). Planting a tree, seeing wild monkeys on the property too (including a baby), and finally taking a dip in the serene and cool waters of their on-site, and un-adulterated cenote.... one of the highlights of our trip. The true highlight was Cesar's baby coati that followed us through the entire tour and interacts like a pet! Truly amazing experience. You do good work!

This was the highlight of my 7 day trip to Mexico's Yucatan. It was gorgeous, and the accommodations were extremely comfortable (I'm a city girl- CHicago, NYC, DC). Don't be afraid of the cold water showers- they are very comfortable and reasonably warm (and I am a wimp when it comes to showers.)

The staff was gracious, welcoming, and kind. There are two peaceful, beautiful cenotes on their property that you can enjoy. There is a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast is included, but it is a light continental breakfast (fruit, toast, yogurt, granola). They have additional breakfast items for purchase. I ordered the chilaquiles since I was travelling and didn't want to be hungry at the airport later that day.

Bring plenty of cash as food and excursions are easier to pay in cash. There is an ATM at the OXXO in the nearest town- it’s a 25min walk. The nearby town has excellent tiny, local restaurants. I had 3 of the best tacos of my life for $6.

This is an amazing location for a solo traveler, family, or couple. I hope to come back again someday with my nieces and nephew.

Would recommend to anyone!

Cesar was amazing and so informative! They are doing amazing work and the message that they’re sending out into the world is worth hearing. I strongly suggest you grab a cab and support this animal rescue over the commercialized monkey sanctuary, which is just a zoo. This place is trying to rehabilitate and protect animals and they need your help. And the cenote they take you to is breathtaking. Visit!!

The truth is that I was quite disappointed with the place since I thought it was in the middle of nature, but it is enclosed between a wall and a perimeter fence... the service was normal... they said they offered yoga classes but when I arrived there weren't any. The modest breakfast…. But all dirty…. The toaster coffee maker etc mmmm I couldn't believe the bad hygiene…. The tent was good… and so was the cleanliness. I would not return….very little of Naruraleza and they are doing the work on the Mayan train and you sleep with the noises of the work… that is not their fault… very very expensive for what it is…

We really enjoyed learning about what the nature reserve does for the animals & the environment. We hope others tske the upportunity, rdpecially thise that need to hear about & see what happens when you try to domesticate wild animsls. The true rescue aspect of it is also amaxing. The cenote was brearhtaking! Take the chance to change in the banyo if you want privacy ;). Also, note 2 banyos, one at start/end & one in middle of tour. Bring water, walking shoes, bug repellant, bathing suit, sunscreen, hat, msybe a microfibre towel for after cenote. Pics don’t do it justice!

We did the Akumal Natura Rescue experience and we loved it, they showed us the excellent work they do to help animals, we walked through the jungle and finished with a swim in the most spectacular closed cenote I have ever seen. Thanks to César, we were lucky to have him as a guide and he made everything spectacular. We also met the melipona bees and tried their honey, which is very delicious!

We spent a week there just before Christmas 2022. My wife and I, and a 6 year old girl and 3 year old boy.

The magic is in the adventure. This is not a sanitised 5 star all inclusive hotel (though the service was totally fine). You're staying in a jungle location, in accommodation that is between a hut and a tent. Surrounded by the most amazing wildlife. We got used to seeing a vulture every morning. To swimming with tiny turtles, in the on-site ceynote. To having our feet nibbled by fish. To the ginormous spider on the walk to breakfast.

We could get a tuk tuk from the door to an amazing beach. And nice restaurants. And the food here is also pretty good.

The trip to the sister company animal conservation centre was a massive highlight. With the kids able to handle a number of really exciting animals - but all done with a very pure spirit of conservation and rehabilitation.

Would highly recommend. Should be aware that there are lots of mosquitos, so expect to get bitten a bit. But that's part of the adventure.

What a treat to escape the typical tourist attractions, to experience a highly interactive and educational journey within the Mayan jungle. From peering at miniature beehives in logs, to feeding abandoned parrots and falcons, we felt immersed. Our guide was well-versed and informative, plus he projected a Zen-like atmosphere throughout the journey. The grand finale has to be a plunge in the spectacular cenote located on the premises. You descend a long stairway to a platform, with pristine, tranquil waters all around. What a great way to cool down after a hot day!

It's near the beach so it's hot, it's part of it, but it's not too hot. We are in the middle of the jungle, so there are mosquitoes, nothing that a repellant can't fix

No lock box in the room. They do give you a lock and you can lock the tent. I didn’t feel the need. The people that work there are exceptional. The one Cenote is available 24/7. The breakfast was included. It is very simple, but, very good. Great coffee, Fresh Juice, fruit, real butter, organic honey and jam too! Very simple and simple is amazing. Everyone there went over and above to make my stay there excellent. Treat them well. It’s not the Four Seasons. For a Luxury camping, it doesn’t get any better. Excellent experience. Definitely plan on going again and taking a group.
