Visiting the town of Patzcuaro in the mountains of central Mexico was a delight of sounds, colors, flavors and friendly people. Paul & Mayela at Casa Werma where very accomodating in helping make my stay comfortable. They directed me to some local archaeological sites and other Pueblos Magicos as well as other local interests. Casa Werma is a collection of lodgings inside an amazing enclosed 5 acre garden. The peace and tranquility of this wonderful garden is often used by groups seeking a location for spiritual retreats or quiet meditation..
The main house has 3 bedrooms, 3 baths and a recently renovated kitchen with granite counters and commercial range. The smaller "Casita" is a single bedroom house with it's own private patio sitting off in the corner of the massive garden. Together the property can accommodate groups of up to 12 individuals.
Casa Werma is walking distance to town center and I found the streets are alive at all hours with locals of all ages. I enjoyed some local dishes of Chilaquiles for breakfast, Tarascan soup for dinner and local Mezcal which Michoacan is known for.
The nearest major airport is about a 90 minute drive to Morelia which is filled with amazing Spanish architecture, a rich history and wonderful food and culture.

The month I spent at Casa Werma was a true delight. The Directors, Mayela and Paul had me feeling like a VIP from the first moment I arrived and truly treated me like a dear friend each time we interacted. On a hospitality scale of 1-10, they and their team get a very strong 12. During my stay, I had the privilege of residing in the Casita which was lovely, private and very comfortable, even boasting an amazing fireplace that was expertly arranged with fresh wood and kindling whenever I needed it. The gardens were lush and green and welcoming, perfect for walking meditation. Each thing that I requested to make my stay easy and convenient so as to be able to focus on my inner-looking practice was quickly provided with open heartedness and a caring smile visible through sparkling eyes even though (thanks to Covid) the actual smiles themselves were beaming from behind a face mask. The team were wonderfully respectful of my desire to be as solitary as I could be during the month I'd devoted to introspective work. They were accessible but never the least bit intrusive. I truly cannot say enough to convey all the thankfulness in my heart for the opportunity to retreat from the routine of daily life and focus on heart and mind healing. Casa Werma's Casita was perfectly conducive to accessing the stillness within, while experiencing palpable love and support surrounding me from without; my heart is full of gratitude. A truly magnificent and rewarding experience.

Casa Werma is superlative place to spend peaceful, meditative time in the midst Patzcuaro, one of Mexico's most delightful, vibrant towns. There are 2 lovely rooms for couples and a casita. The food is excellent, and attentive staff couldn't be more hospitable & knowledgable. Casa Werma extends their good fortune by engaging with the town's community.

I had the most wonderful stay at Casa Werma and would love to come back. The staff, gardens and accomodation was far beyond my imagination. Casa Werma is walking distance to everything in downtown Patzcuaro.

I did a 10 day meditation retreat and I was so happy to be there. It is right in the center of Patzcuaro and I know they have also Bed and Breakfast services. Please support this effort to keep this wonderful garden alive that is full of wonders. It is ultra rare to have a place like this.

I couldn't believe it when I saw the travel warning at the top of the page for Casa Werma, Patzcuara, Mexico. Casa Werma is a wonderfully beautiful and serene B&B nestled in a 5 acre garden in Patzcuaro. In January there were agapanthus, daylilies, bouganvillias, geraniums, calla lilies, birds of paradise in bloom as well as avocados, loquats and oranges ready for picking. Its a short walk to one of the most wonderful daily markets we've ever seen. It really is a gem! It is a Shambhala Buddhist meditation center that doubles as a regular B&B. If you are fortunate enough to be able to stay here, you won't be disappointed. There are 3 rooms - 2 in the main casa which is beautifully decorated - a fireplace in one of the bedrooms, the communal livingroom and in the kitchen. We stayed in the Casita, a stand alone small open concept home with a kitchenette, sitting area, bedroom with 4 beds, bathroom and a fireplace. The gardener, Jorge, came in everyday to set up the fire so all we had to do was light it upon our return home from exploring this fascinating area. In the morning we went over to the main casa for breakfast and were greeted by the hosts Kai and Katherine and a lovely fire. It was a full breakfast - cereal, fruit, yoghurt, fresh squeezed juice and a hot dish often a Michoacan delight. We were really spoiled! Don't let the meditation thing worry you - the hosts are friendly and interesting. You can participate in the weekly drop-in meditation or receive instruction if you wish but its your visit and they will help you in any way they can with planning a great stay. Patzcuaro is designated a Magico Pueblo for good reason. There are many small towns along the lake and each is known for a craft specialty: masks, weaving, copper work, pottery, making of musical instruments. The town of Tzintzutzan is the center of the Day of the Dead celebration as well as a 2300 year old archaeological site with a breath-taking view of the lake. We never felt unsafe here and are really concerned that travelers will miss out on a remarkable part of Mexico. Patzcuaro is a short distance from Morelia so we had a tour driver take us and show us the beautiful surroundings enroute. We stayed at Casa Werma for a week and would definitely go back.

My partner and I recently stayed in the "casita", which is perfect for two--a double bed and a single bed. Nice sitting area and kitchenette. Great fireplace, which we enjoyed one chilly afternoon while having drinks before going out to dinner. Excellent breakfasts prepared by our hostess, Chris. The five-acre property is beautiful, with flowers and many different kinds of trees--very unusual for the location. Not in the very center of town, but one block from the market and an easy walk to the two plazas. I think it is by far the best place to stay in Patzcuaro.

We have been going to Patzcuaro for many years and have stayed in three other B&B's. All of them have been wonderful, but the specialness of CW is that it is off the beaten path, away from the tourist trade. It gives one a "real feel" of Mexico just to walk to and from the two main plazas. The grounds are magical, and the main house is lovely. We were well cared for -- enjoying wonderful breakfasts, evening fires, and good conversations. We shall return!

Located in the historical center of Patzcuaro, this adobe-walled 5-acre mini-paradise was a fabulous experience. With the helpful advise of the proprietors, we found delicious food and drinks, were directed toward the best taco stand, and enjoyed spectacular views of the beautiful lake and surrounding towns on a recommended hike. Spending the day in the bustling market and square, it was wonderful to return to the quiet and warm sanctuary of Casa Werma. The bed was comfortable, the house full of beautiful details including art and working fireplaces, and breakfast was delicious. Before our days' adventures, we could enjoy a coffee on the patio overlooking the gardens, or a margarita around the patio fire in the evening. I can’t wait to go back.
