1. All you can eat buffets last 90 minutes twice each day (get in line at the beginning and leave the last dirty dish). 2. Your little house (casita) gets cleaned twice a day. 3. The bathroom supplies are great free gifts to take home. 4. Wine bar only 500 steps away. Do not buy a glass of wine INSTEAD buy bottles and keep some there and some in your room. 5. The RATIO OF WOMEN TO MEN IS FIVE TO ONE. 6. As you cross into Tecate, Mexico get two bottles of liquor duty free. 7. Just outside the ranch is a small convenience store where you can get chips, soda, candy bars, jerky and a case of Tecate beer and Clamato. 8. In your exercise classes you will have a girl to your right and a girl to your left with exquisite form; so the fact you forgot what your instructor instructed doesn’t matter. 9. Free fresh fruit smoothies and guacamole and chips and swimming pool glancing at the JUICE BAR (tip, bring vodka or tequila in your water bottle to make an ultimate smoothie). 10. My wife loves me taking her with me!

We just returned from our fourth visit with each visit being a different season. Yet, the gardens,, designed into vignettes, invite you to sit or just walk by to enjoy the art, the old oak trees, or the flowers, which are always present, regardless of the season. The design of the space is so remarkable, that even when guests are abundant, you feel like you are there with limited number of people. However, they are present when you feel the need for Pickleball, or Water Polo. We love the amicable and service orientated staff. In fact, there had been a mountain fire a few weeks prior to our visit, and a manager told me that with no coaxing, the staff jumped into action, with evacuation, to fighting the flames in order to save their beautiful Ranch! It made me love and appreciate all of them even more. The people of Tecate also came to their rescue, by helping with the fire, and bringing in everything from Mexican food to Pizza. That shows how much the locals also appreciate having Rancho La Puerto. In previous visits we had more of the family, and this visit it was a mother/adult daughter vacation. We had separate vacations together, as each of us have specific interests. It is all there for the asking or taking. Tips…. Accommodations - Mostly, I choose what activities we would be doing and how close we want to be to the dining hall, etc., you can see the layout of all units on line. We prefer the Deluxe Villa, because of the wood burning fireplace and the size. It can also accommodate three people easily. The Rancheros and other sizes, I have heard are delightful. If a full week is too expensive for you, or you are unable to get away for a full week, they offer 4 days at the beginning of the week, and three days at the end. Attire - A joy is that you can leave your jewelry at home, and dress from athletic casual in the day, to casual or spiffy casual in the evening. Dining- Food has improved over the years, if that is at all possible. If you have any food restrictions or likes and dislikes, the kitchen will work with you. Each day is special, but Friday, they serve wine, beer and have a festive evening to send you off well on Saturday! You may be seated with other guests, or sit with your traveling companion, or alone if that is your wish. Summer has breakfast by the Villas Pool, amazing views of the gardens and the mountains. Breakfast and Lunch are beautiful buffets, and dinner is from the menu. We didn't know until this visit, that we could order both entrées - half and half as they are often both delicious. If you need special items, you may ask the kitchen. Wine is only served and for sale at the Bazar Del Sol. Don't miss sunset, music, Wi-Fi, and the amazing items to purchase in the shop portion of this remarkable spot at the top of the Ranch with more views that are more beautiful than you can imagine. There is not only wine and appetizers, but gorgeous artisan items to purchase. Transportation - If you are close enough to drive, you can either drive your car across the border, or park safely at the Ranch. Even easier, park at the store closest to the border crossing, and the driver from the Ranch will not only pick you up, but walk you through immigration, and then load your luggage. Returning is the same service. What a difference not to worry about how long the line will be at the border. Flying in is no hassle either. This amazing vacation should start the minute you leave home! Yes, you need a visa and always take your Passport. Enjoy!!

As a repeat guest to RLP, it has already been established that I am a Fan. Even more thrilled that the kitchen has further upped its game, and now not only is the food organic and natural and low calorie, there are several dishes that warrant 5 stars!!

We love this place. Plenty for my athletic husband and my less active self. Morning hikes are invigorating; then a sumptuous breakfast and a wide choice pf classes all day plus three pools. I like pilates and gyrokinesis. He likes yoga and swimming laps. The setting is just perfect. the grounds are so creatively landscaped with many trails and ponds and art everywhere. The food is healthful and plentiful. We always meet such interesting people. Entertainment at night plus films, lectures, and a great nights sleep.

Visited here with my husband in August. The Good: Gorgeous, well kept Grounds and Gardens. Humble, kind, loving, warm Mexican Staff that is willing to serve and go beyond the call of duty to assist you. The not-so-good: This is Not a Mexican Experience. The Food is Mediocre. Not because food is healthy it needs to be unpalatable. No condiments are used in the kitchen except for salt and pepper and seldom locally grown herbs. We asked the kitchen staff for condiments several times, but food was bland to say the least. I found several of the presenters not at the top of their game. Example, exercise teacher was not ready with class, improvising as he went, having us get props mid class. Not even music figured out, kept on meddling with it during class. A few other teachers stroked me as snobbish and arrogant, for example, RN San Diego nutrition teacher, Wazu instructor, Singing bowl lady. The bad: They say it is all inclusive, they charge top dollar, and you have to pay for things that should be included, such as smoothies and specialty coffees, cooking classes, several art classes. It seems like paying such a steep price, merely gets you in the door. If you want, what elsewhere would be considered basic luxuries, you have to pay for them. The very bad: Some of the teachers were not only arrogant, but rude and abrasive. One example: I personally witnessed a teacher shouting at a guest for having to repeat his instruction to her in front of everybody there. I felt personally offended by that situation. I think this is completely unacceptable. If staff has been there so long that they feel they own the place and can do whatever they please, in my opinion, it's time to let them go. This is unprofessional to say the least. If you are going to spend this kind of money, you are better off going to Ojai Resort and Spa, Grand Velas in Puerto Vallarta or Cancun, not to mention any Leela Palace in India, to name a few. You'll be much better served in every way. And no, I don't have stocks in any of the above mentioned. In the Grand Velas, for this price, you get everything included, even the minibar, even alcoholic beverages if that's your jive. I don't drink, but my friends that do are very impressed that even expensive tequila and Dom Perignon champagne is included for the price.
