This beautifully planted (albeit with a lot of non-native plantings) spot in the mountains is a bit unreal, but that helps to make it restful. Despite its location in Mexico, all the staff speak English -- and have been trained to drop whatever they are doing to escort lost and wandering guests to their destinations. The food is excellent and plentiful, so it will take discipline to lose or maintain weight. Clientele is mostly women from 40 to 80, with a heavy dose of Californians. The general style of the buildings and grounds is Mexican/American/European, with wandering paths throughout. I thought the instructors were good to excellent, and was impressed with the therapists. The caliber of other presentations was more variable, but again it was impressive that each presentation was offered whether 3 or 103 persons were in attendance. It is a very female atmosphere.

From the moment I got off the bus I felt I was in paradise. Everything exceeded my expectations - the environment, staff, casita, activities, treatments, the pools and much more. Although I don’t have a strong taste for Mexican spices, there’s plenty of choices. I was surprised to learn that about 85% of the guests return, but once I was there I saw why. I actually made a tentative reservation before I left and now plan to return. It’s truly a combination of a spiritual retreat and heath spa. It was also comfortable to go alone because people are so friendly and it’s okay to sit at different tables at meals.

This was my 12th visit to Rancho La Puerta and it never fails to amaze and delight: it is magical. They do everything so well and always try to improve. If you have a complaint it is always taken seriously, - all the employees are fully vested in making your week as good as possible. I love the morning hikes,it’s a wonderful way o start every day. There are normally 4 or 5 activities available every hour, and it’s hard to choose which to select. The food is great, and most of it comes from their own organic farm, which you can hike to and have breakfast at and then be shown around the farm to see what will be ready o be served the next few days. RLP has become my “happy place” because of the beauty and all the activities, but also because so many people return the same week year after year so every time I go back I know more people. It’s expensive but so worthwhile.

I spent a week at Rancho la Puerta, and though the classes, talks, and group activities were mostly enjoyable, it's the beauty and magical feel of the place that makes it special. The Ranch was built with love, over many decades, and its landscaping and design are quite extraordinary. My favcorite activity was just walking the expansive property, taking in the lovely gardens, the groves of oak trees, and the gentle dessert air. I was traveling by myself, but everyone I met was very friendly, and I never found myself dining alone. The food was terrific, the two main swimming pools were a total delight, and the spa treatments were excellent. One can do as much or as little as one wants at Rancho la Puerta. It's an extremely restorative spot, unlike any other spa resort I've been to and very much in a class all its own.

Rancho La Puerto is magical. It’s SO much more than a health spa. While recommended by a few friends, they were unable to describe how special this experience is in every way. Rancho La Puerto is a health spa and a fitness retreat and healthy eating and a very spiritual experience (if that’s what you want). 1. Beautiful surroundings, attention to details in every building, an ambiance that can’t be described, but from the moment you get off the bus it’s clear this place is very, very special. Dozens of staff constantly working on the grounds - look one way for the mountains, to cactus, to trees, to flowers. I especially loved the beautiful Mexican tile in practically every building, including the bathrooms! 2. Activities from 6 am to 9 pm. Absolutely something for everyone. I think I listed about 30+ different choices during the week. Whether you want to be really active, just relax, or do both, it’s all up to you - no pressure from anyone. The instructors are the best of the best. 2A. Try something new like arial silks or exercise focused on a specific part of the body, sound healing, swim stroke clinic, and the most comfortable meditation I’ve ever done (lay down, sit up - whatever works for you). Hikes from 1 mile to 6+ miles. Next time I know I’ll need real hiking shoes because I quickly learned that mountain hiking is very different than city hiking. 3. 3 beautiful pools (not including the watsu. Another attention to detail is the sun screen available at each pool. 4. Loved my casita, so much more than a hotel or resort experience. Did I mention that it was spotless! The bedding was very comfortable and the shower was great. Also loved the big towels. My first evening I did something wrong with the air conditioner and in minutes someone was at my door to help. It was so easy and inexpensive to have laundry done once. 5. The food is plenty and the staff is there to help in every way. Breakfast and lunch are buffets and dinner is served. Dietary needs are honored. Now I’ll note that the food isn’t for everyone, people who believe they require meat or chicken, but for me, almost all of the food met or surpassed my expectations as I lean vegan. 6. Massages were outstanding, although more expensive than I expected. 7. Special extras including cooking class, cake for birthdays, silent dinner, and a band at 2 of the dinners. I also had to go to see the doctor twice and she was very helpful. 8. Because almost everyone arrives and leaves on Saturdays and because of the culture, there is a very strong culture of community building. Most people are exceptionally friendly and it’s easy to make a few new friends. I learned… —bring more cash for tips —different hats for the sun, including a visor for the pool —extra shoes, but less clothes —I don’t need to check my phone every few hours (Wi-Fi locations limited and rules about phones off in most public areas). —if you need something, ask Reservation made to come back! Appeared that about 85% of the guests return.

The landscaping is gorgeous, our casita was clean, airy, and spacious, the exercise and meditation classes many and varied and taught by excellent teachers (I had only one subpar teacher in a whole week of hourly classes), the many pools were delightful, the spa services were plentiful and varied, the food was excellent…I can’t imagine how anyone could go and have a bad time. It was ideal for pairs and small groups of friends and the occasional married couple.

Beautiful place. Great concierge level attention to detail. It's like a cross between a summer camp for adults and spa retreat. Multiple activities scheduled on the hour throughout the day: fitness related, educational or for the soul. Or, you can just chill. It's a secure walking campus that attracts an interesting group of people.

After a year delay, my granddaughter and I made it to family week. She loved it and can’t wait to go back with her brother in 2022! She especially enjoyed the food - I was a little concerned about that since she is not a vegetarian, but she mostly ate what was being served the adults with an occasional entree made especially for kids. I have seen others complain about mosquitoes, but we have never had a problem with them. My granddaughter especially enjoyed the cooking class, sand volleyball and all the art classes. I never have a bad time at the Ranch and it was a joy to introduce the experience to my granddaughter.

I went to the Ranch by myself in August 2021. I’m a married guy in my early 40s with two kids and a wife. I wasn’t sure if this would be the place for me but thought I’d give it a try. Demographically, I definitely felt like an outside. The average person at the Ranch was a white female between 55-70 years old. Of the 150 people there my week, there were about 20 men. All other men there were with partners except for one. Granted, there were quite a number of women who were there solo. I got comments all week long from everyone I met about how surprised they were to see someone like me at the Ranch. These weren’t negative comments by any means, but just illustrate the environment. The Ranch very much has an adult summer camp feel, in all good ways. Being alone, I very much appreciated that they would sit you with other people for dinner (if you wanted) to avoid awkward introductions to people you didn’t yet know. The food is delicious and super healthy. As a pescatarian, it was perfect. My casita was nice but not luxurious. The bed, in fact, was super hard and not at all comfortable. That was unfortunate because I didn’t sleep well all week, and part of the experience was supposed to be restful. I understand each casita is different so my experience may be unique. The spa treatments were excellent. The therapists are very well trained and provided great services. As others have mentioned, the spa facility itself is old and in need of an update. Most people I met during my week had been coming to the Ranch for years - some even for dozens of years. I learned that people often come the same week every year to see the same people again. I was asked if I would return again. I guess I probably will at some point in the future - but may wait until I get older, and come with my wife the next time.

My husband has been mentioning Rancho La Puerta to me for years, he is from California and he had been there twice many years ago, as had been his father, back when it was much more rustic. Being a native New Yorker, where the Rancho de La Puerta is not so well known I had always found a reason to go somewhere else. When we became unexpectedly free for thanksgiving, he said let’s go to the Ranch! And we did. This place is magic and I see now why it has such a dedicated following. Your week can be whatever you make it. Enjoy the outdoors with hikes and nature walks, birds walks, garden walks. Do art projects every day. Enjoy lectures. Try a bunch of new classes. Dance. Try water exercise! Do a different spa treatment every day. Loose weight or just enjoy as much delicious food as you please. I met people who choose to make it about the spa, others for the beauty of nature and disconnecting. It was refreshing to hardly see a cell phone all week, as a result people engage with each other and their surroundings! Still there are wifi hot spots for those who need them to check in. My villa had decent cell service which I only used very sparingly (to check the weather in the morning) and once to look up the Eply maneuver when I had an attack of vertigo. Had enough service to stream it in YouTube. It’s great that there is a nurse on site, who paid me a visit and gave me some Dramamine. What really makes this place so special is that it is still run by a family not by a corporation. For example, there are fourteen gardeners, three if them master gardeners working every day to maintain the campus. Some of them are third generation. There is real pride in the work that they do and the commitment they have. The lady who did my pedicure had a pin saying 20 years, many of the instructors and staff have also been there for many years, this has created a real sense of community and of place. I learned that the owners took out a loan so that they could play their workers a percentage of their salaries during the time it was closed and that they helped others to retire. In terms of Covid protocols, all the workers have been vaccinated. All the spa technicians wore masks and and each client was given a fresh mask to wear for their treatment (unless you are facedown or having a a treatment on your face). Doors were often opened for classes (if I got there early I would open them, and many teachers did too. Some classes like stretch did have an overflow class. There are dots on the floor six feet apart. I did correct a person who was too close and the teacher had him move. I think this is the problem with the people who come midweek and don’t seem as educated on the protocols. Some teachers where better than others with the mask wearing reminders when walking around the room. Once on the mat no mask required. There is very good ventilation and high ceilings. I think that most people were very considerate and tried to do the right thing. I’m a carnivore and loved my meat free week. I thought the food was great and fresh and tasty with a good variety of choices. Hint. The butter is behind the counter, just ask. Last point is that as woo woo and crunchy as the place is (in the best way, I mean they do have chanting and all), the logistics are handled with admirable precision. The meeting place at the airport on Saturday terrific, with two people set up at a desk, tagging and watching your luggage. the transfer across the border and to the ranch as well as the return runs as smooth as silk. If you follow the ranches instructions on getting and paying for your visa in advance even better. Meal times are marked by the ringing of the bell at the dining hall, classes are schedule with plenty of time to clean and disinfect. I look forward to returning. My only suggestion would be to resurrect the men’s program so that the guys can meet each other and stretch out their stiff hamstrings together, etc, I think it would be more welcoming for them and maybe you would get more couples, I understand the men’s center could use a refresh.
