My husband and I stayed here on Saturday July 31st. We had been travelling all day and stopped in Val D'or. We were able to get a suite. Everything was perfect. Beautiful, nicely decorated and clean. The staff were so nice and friendly and did their best to speak English for us. The breakfast was delicious and the young girl serving was very polite. We definitely recommend this amazing hotel.

We stayed two nights at this place this June and it was absolutely excellent.
A very warm welcome and reception, efficient and quick.
We had a suite on the first floor which was just what the doctor ordered after a long days' drive.
A lovely lounge area with comfortable sofa and chairs, a dining table, good spacious bedroom and a fabulously well thought out bathroom with a double spa bath, spacious shower and all the rest!
We had drinks in the bar which were served by lovely well trained efficient, friendly staff, who booked us into the restaurant for dinner. Although it was quiet the atmosphere was just right with some locals popping in and out for a beer.
We ate in the restaurant and l cannot compliment enough. Again it was quiet but such a lovely dining room with very attentive staff. A pianist played some of our favourite tunes while we ate the fabulous dinner served to us. It was excellent in every way.
Breakfast was just as good with a great choice.
Exceptional value for money in every way too.
Would definately return to the area, it was so laid back and relaxing and of course would stay at this hotel again and again.

The full name is L'Escale Hotel Motel Suite. What started as a roadside motel 50 years ago is now the best hotel and best restaurant in Val d'Or. It has grown to 2 storeys with 70 rooms and 14 suites. The ground floor rooms have motel-type access to your car. Free wi-fi internet throughout, free continental breakfast in the bar accross from the lobby. The restaurant also has a full breakfast menu. I stayed 2 nights on business and was very pleased. Quick, pleasant, fully bilingual service at the front desk. There are various sizes of meeting rooms.

I understand your express breakfast is until 9:30 but when your restaurant is closed for vacation why not extend your breakfast. I've missed the hot breakfast everything was put away but i thought i could grab a bowl of cereal for my son.. a lady showed ub and started giving me 💩. After went in the back and said "caliss le monde écoutent pas"! Next time i'll go back to Microtel across the street

Don't let the name "Motel" turn you off this place. It's right across the Quality Inn, ~1.5 km walk from the downtown Val d'Or - however I was quite content with staying at the Escale in the evenings. The restaurant is fantastic and there is a complimentary continental breakfast offered to guests. The breakfast consists of yogurts, muffins, toasts/bagels, hard-boiled eggs, fresh fruit and coffee/teas. The staff are very attentive, rooms are spotless and suprisingly at a very low price - $109/night. My room had a king size bed plus a large sitting area with leather couch and desk.

One small detail to improve - the shower head could be tweaked so the jet doesn't spray in random directions.

Several restaurants are nearby if you find the hotel restaurant pricy: Tim Hortons, Pizza Bella and a chinese restaurant.

We also tried to get a room at the Quality Inn across the street and they were booked. We got a suite, as that is all this hotel had left. Well worth the $155.00! It had a separate bedroom, large, luxurious bathroom, an entire living room. Good internet access. Our room was impeccable in cleanliness. We also had use of their nice, heavy bathrobes and complimentary snacks. Excellent restaurant, as well.

My wife and i stayed at this Motel/Hotel while on a road trip in Canada.
We stayed for 2 nights and found the motel to be excellant.
The room we were in was on the ground floor of the motel,it was large, spacious, clean and with plenty of comfortable seats to relax on.
The bathroom was large with a very clean large shower cubicle.
The breakfast was a help yourself with plenty of selection on offer.
Overall we would recommend this Motel

Clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated, this hotel was very pleasant. Very good food and service were offered at The Canon restaurant. No need to order an extra breakfast at cost, as the included continental breakfast provided more than ample food, good coffee and Juices. This was one of the best hotel continental breakfasts I’ve had. Staff are bilingual.

L'Escale delivers on its promise. Large, well-appointed rooms with very good sound-proofing. I was not bothered by any traffic noise or noise from other guests. Ground-floor units have motel-style parking right outside their door. The free continental breakfast in the lounge was definitely more than adequate and there is the option of having a cooked breakfast in the restaurant dining room at extra cost. Said hotel restaurant, le Canon, features fine cuisine and dining of the old "take your time to talk and enjoy the meal" style common before fast food became the rage. Probably would not go over well with children for that reason.
The hotel sweats the details as well: a staff person at the buffet breakfast waiting to clear and reset the tables as soon as they become vacant; ceramic mugs, not paper cups, for use with the in-room coffee machine; and maybe this last was just coincidence. Val d'Or is an overwhelmingly French-speaking community. (Don't worry - most of the staff can speak English) I had made my reservation through an English-language booking site and the various signs and door hangers in my room were all turned so the English rather than the French side was the visible one. The bill was printed in English as well.
Should I ever be in Val d'Or again, I would not hesitate to book into L'Escale again.

We stayed here on our way up to and from Waswanipi over the holiday period. We traveled with 5 kids (14, 5, 4, and twin 1 years olds) and we fit relatively nicely into a single suite, which was well-equipped with a fridge and microwave. The room was a decent size with a very comfortable king sized bed in the bedroom and a less comfortable (but bearable) pull-out bed/cot in the living room. There was a nice sized table that doubled as our dining room table and a work surface. The bathroom was really nice and large with a good shower and enticing (but unused by us) jacuzzi tub. The towels were really nice and soft, and we were all impressed by the particularly comfy robes (with the L'Escale logo). The service is great!! All the staff were very helpful and attentive (which is not always the case when travelling with that many kids), including the folks at the reception desk, in maintenance, at breakfast, in the bar, and in housekeeping. Really just a friendly group!! On the way up, we stayed over the night of December 25th so it was really quiet. On the way back (January 4th), it was a bit more active, but still relatively quiet in the hotel in the evening -- it was a bit busier in the morning as there was a local school group there for breakfast. As an aside, the breakfasts are relatively simple but really terrific, especially for kids. There's a nice mix of cold cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts, fruit juice, milk, hot chocolate, coffee, and tea etc. The hotel is really well located in Val D'Or, just a few blocks from all sorts of shops. I think the price is certainly appropriate, especially as they waived the charges for all the extra people in our room (the max is supposed to be 4). On the way up, we were able to get a particularly good deal online, so you might want to check online before booking. The only real downside is that there are slot machines in the bar at night which, in my opinion, detract from any experience, but especially a family one. Another disappointment is that there's no beer on tap in the bar but they had a decent collection of bottles and other drinks.
