I've stayed here twice and it was perfect for me. It was affordable, the office staff is very friendly, the rooms are renovated and clean, and the price is great. I definitely recommend staying here if you are visiting Port Hope or Cobourg.

Several attractive features: minimal road noise, clean room, parking right outside your room, close to Hwy 401, seems to be family run. Room is small, as expected for the price. Noisy bathroom fan and no drop box for keys to simplify early departure were the only drawbacks.

This is one of those older rural motels where you can park conveniently right outside your room . The room , while not large , was clean and comfortable with all the basic amenities . Probably the best thing about this motel is that the rooms are priced reasonably , particularly for the greater Toronto area ; but please note that no breakfast is offered ( which was not a problem for us ). The motel is operated by a friendly couple who take pride in their operation . It is located a few miles away from restaurants in Port Hope . We would stay here again .

Don't be fooled by the outside; the inside of this place is very modern and spotless. The owner was upset with us when we got there and keep rambling on about problems he was having with our credit card. (He tried to put the room on our charge before we got there to guarantee it.) He kept telling us that someone wanted a room; but he also said he had another available. It was 8:15 p.m. and we had been held up by four traffic jams; we just wanted to check in and get something to eat. It was the worst reception we have ever gotten at all the hotels we have stayed at. We did sleep very well and everything was very clean.

As a westerner coming from a town of 5000, I had become overwhelmed by my day in Toronto, so after the Blue jays won I fought my way through intense traffic onto the 401 and started heading east. Once I arrived in farming country, I started to look for accommodation. Most of the facilities available were large franchise operations where you had to drag your luggage up stairs and down hallways to get to your room. I wanted an old fashioned 1950's type motel where you could pull your car up close to your room. Fortunately I noticed a sign that read Budget Motel near Port Hope, and was delighted when the directional sign pointed away from all of the rest of the city highlights. The Budget Inn was exactly what I wanted. Clean, quiet and reasonably priced. The room was comfortably appointed and the bed very comfortable. There was a fridge, microwave and WiFi; everything I needed for a satisfactory night. I spent my first night there on my way to a visit in Montreal, and I liked it so much that I stayed there again on my way back. Many of these simple comfortable hostelries have been replaced by corporate large operations. If you look hard enough however, you can still find convenient old motels like this!
