My husband and I stayed here for two nights. Having read some of the reviews, I nearly cancelled: I'm so glad I didn't! The location is stunning and amenities are great if you make the most of them. The weather was good enough for us to relax on the beach area, though we didn't venture out on the canoes/kayaks on this occasion. Okay, so the room was a little tired, but it was spotlessly clean (that's the crux of the matter, isn't it?). All staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, doing their jobs with a massive smile. A special mention for Zach who was serving in the bar/lounge area in the evening - nothing was too much trouble for him. The breakfast buffet was on a par with other breakfasts we had whilst in Canada. We were disappointed to leave on our final morning, but would return in a heartbeat.

Having read more than a few negative reviews, I feltI had to chime in and give a different point of view. The room (Maplewood premium with fireplace) was lovely and very clean. We had a balcony on Lake Joseph that made our stay even better. Restaurant was just great, with fine, friendly service and excellent food. Most importantly, we have had many interactions with servers, cleaning staff, front desk, and management, and we found them astoundingly friendly and accommodating. I will say that the only negative we experienced was the downgrading of the breakfast from full serve to a buffet. We had visited many years ago, and the breakfast was one of the highlights . In short, I suggest you take the few negative reviews with a grain of salt.

Firstly the staff, the views and the food all very very good!! Felt happy and very relaxed about our stay… I do have some feedback. The hotel is very expensive as is the food and drinks there which would all be ok if the accommodation and facilities matched the high end prices. The rooms are old fashion and run down with the noises air conditioner ever and the beds were so uncomfortable. The games room is a joke and they could make a very cool games room with a pool table, table football some classic arcade games for the younger children/ teenagers to enjoy in the evenings . Also some evening entertainment like a wine tasting evening or a bbq by the lake … something to make the stay more in tuned with modern families and for the price. I am not sure I would stay again with the high prices and no refurb or upgrades done.

Thank you for the review - we're happy to hear you enjoyed the hospitality from our staff, the views and the food! We appreciate the feedback about our rooms; and we would like to mention that we host events like you mentioned in your review above! We have live music every Friday evening during the summer, we just held an Alcohol Ink Art Class this past weekend, we do impromptu culinary demonstrations (there's a video on Facebook and Instagram of a smoker demonstration for an idea of what they look like), and we have winetasting dinner packages and comedy night packages available occasionally too. We do appreciate the review and feedback - all constructive and helpful, thank you!

The room was old and rundown.. Dragged our luggage up a hill to the building we were staying in, only to discover no elevators and we had to carry our luggage up 4 flights of stairs. Not inviting in any way. No microwave in the room. The staff unhelpful. Woke us up banging on the door at 9am screeching “you want towels!” The experience is similar to staying in a motel - but much more expensive. Paid extra for the view of the lake only to be met with overgrown trees and crappy view. Fire place in the room with no way of lighting it. Couldn’t even tell you if they offered food at this “resort” because we couldn’t get any info on dining or breakfast. And was advised we’d be better driving into town for a bite. This is not a romantic getaway in any way.

Once again I entertained a group of friends from Barrie Ontario this weekend as I have done for a number of years and again the staff and facilities have not disappoint. Everyone had a good time and I got great review on the staff that greeted us and the meals and room were all up to expectations. Our group is looking forward to there next visit in 2023..

Enjoyed my stay at Sherwood Dec 24-26. Weather wasn’t very wintery(drizzle and power outage Xmas morning) Acommodation in Cedarwood was comfortable, easy access and pet friendly. Xmas dinner in the dining room was amazing, food tasty and lots of it. Breakfast and dining room staff friendly and eager to please. As locals (Bracebridge resident) I would highly recommend Sherwood for location, service and great accommodation . Thank you for making my Xmas with friends special.

Staff was excrutiatingly friendly if that's possible. The Inn was perfectly Muskoka-big pines and maples, rocky terrain, etc. Great old building with tons of character and a nice fire at the entrance. Nice (rough-ish) trail system nearby-unfotunately we had "not enough for snowshoe/messy for boots" level of snow, but beauty walk regardless. Food was pricey, but pretty much what I'd expect to pay for the menu we had including xmas (my lovely bride's 65th birthday) full turkey dinner. I'm not much of a wine guy, but I can appreciate the extensive selection available. We will be absolutely looking at a golf package when I retire in Septl PS-The cornflake buttermilk chicken with mac and cheese better be on the menu!!!

We love theSherwood Inn on Lake Joseph. We have stayed many times,we aim for at least one stay every year. This year we had a 3 night stay. The fall is our favourite time to visit with all the beautiful colours. The property is wonderful with the outdoor fire every evening. The staff is warm welcoming and they really offer excellent customer service. As usual the dinners were really excellent, well presented and we don’t mind paying a bit more for a relaxing delicious dinner. The beef tenderloin and the rack of lamb were outstanding. How we missed the a la cart breakfast with our eggs made to order. The breakfast buffet that was offered this year is not what we expect from a resort of this quality. As the buffet is offered for many hours (8-11 am) nothing is hot or fresh try as they might to replenish the offerings. Hoping on our visit next year the cooked to order breakfast is back on the menu fingers crossed.Thank you to our server Anna who is out of this world,so friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay in a premium room on the second floor. Looking so forward to our stay next year.

This was my second visit to the Sherwood Inn in almost a year, my first being back in November 2020. Enjoyed a wonderful two-night stay, this time my room was a "Premium Inn Room" in the Main Inn, a fantastic corner room featuring two walls of windows with a view of Lake Joseph as well as the inn grounds and its tall trees, my room included a spacious renovated 4-piece bathroom with large jacuzzi tub. My friend also had the same room beside mine (also a corner), so I highly recommend Rooms 218 and 220 if you book the Premium Inn Room, you will not be disappointed! Like last time, the food was outstanding and you simply can't go wrong with anything on their menu. For one lunch I enjoyed the Buttermilk Chicken Club with caesar salad, and for a second lunch I enjoyed the Superfood Salad with Grilled Salmon. For dinner I highly recommend the Sherwood Surf'N'Turf featuring a thick grilled 10 oz. cut of striploin beef and large tempura shrimp, along with mashed potatoes and vegetables. If you prefer something a bit lighter I greatly enjoyed on my second night the From-the-Lake Pickerel and Trout with rice and vegetables. Everything else that I saw coming out of the kitchen looked delectable. And the portions are generous, with excellent presentation on the plate. The dessert menu does need a little massaging, the Xango-Mango Cheesecake needs to be scrapped: this version has the cheesecake encased in a flakey pastry and is served warm with a mango sauce - just too fussy. Go with a classic, simple cheesecake with a fruit topping. The "Perfect" Carrot Cake is a vegan gluten-free version made with a plant-based cream "cheese" icing. To me, carrot cake must be the old-fashioned, traditional kind with real cream-cheese icing. Please offer the real deal and forget the vegans who represent 0.1% of the population - they should all just go to a vegan restaurant and leave everyone else alone. The servers here are really exceptional and a big shout-out goes to Maureen, Morgan, Frankie and Anna for making the whole dining experience at The Sherwood Inn truly special and memorable.
