I made a reservation by phone with a pleasant person who assured me a room would be waiting. Upon arrival the office was closed and a No Vacancy sign on the counter. No staff would attend the counter. We slept in our vehicle!

Now known as the Locking Horns Motel. There were some things I liked about the place, like the price (lowest in Nipigon) and minimal road noise because of the creepy hallway in front of the rooms. However, I just can't give the place a 3 when I compare it to other places I've rated as "average." The room was small, and looked like it hadn't been renovated in decades. There was a new flat screen TV, but it was very small. The A/C unit looked to be an original from the 50's. The toilet seat looked ancient, which is funny because it's such an easy thing to replace. Not sure if there was wifi. Everything just looked very old. I've stayed in many other nicer places for the same price.

I chose this place only because the other motels in the area had no vacancy. I was pleasantly surprised though! As a woman travelling alone, I felt safe in this motel. The woman at the front desk was friendly and helpful, and for the price, I'm 100% satisfied. The room was clean, I did a bedbug check and there were none, the fridge worked, the tv was new. When I pass through again, I'm stopping here.

There was a sign just inside the door of our room advising us that the water wasn't drinkable. The hot water took about 15 minutes to warm up. The furniture is from the 70's. We weren't advised by the staff that there was no drinking water when we checked in. We were put in a nonsmoking room but there was obviously people smoking in the rooms near us. Would not stay here again.
