Bear on the Lake was a fantastic experience, wonderfully welcoming, friendly and a great place to stop for a couple of nights. Everyone we met there was happy to chat and the staff were fantastic and really knowledgeable about the area!

I met lots of people at Bear on the Lake, young and old and inbetween, from all over the world. Normally I like to move on to new places when I travel, but I stayed here longer than I've stayed at any hostel, and I never ran out of things to do. Hiking, kayaking, bird tours are all close by....

From the moment I walked in I felt at home. The staff were an absolute delight, kind and amazing energy. The hostel is spotless and comfortable. You are only a short bike ride away from food or you can grab it along the way and enjoy your stay at the hostel with its beautiful views. The staff are extremely knowledgeable...

This hostel is a friendly place, located close to the start of the Cabot Trail and with a nice view of the Bras d'Or Lake. The hostel is very clean and well-kept, and the manager was helpful and very knowledgeable of the local area. One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at!

Staying at Bear on the Lake guesthouse reminded me of a big family dinner. The hostel was like a big family home with a variety of ages staying at there. You even had lots of board games to keep you occupied - Twister is a great way of getting to meet your fellow travellers! The area itself is stunning and...

This hostel with its very friendly vibe is located on a slope overlooking the Bras d'Or Lake. Great views from the patios and the common rooms. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a private room with a shared lounge and balcony. It is located at the gateway to Cape Breton National Park.

The best private room we have had in a hostel so far. Our private room was more like a suite. The private rooms are on the second floor and share a lounge, washroom and a small deck. The whole property is very clean well cared for. Our bed was comfortable and the room was not crowded. It's was a refreshing...

The hostel is not very big (compared to others in big cities), suited in a two-story big house, with large kitchen and dining room and spacious living room. This hostel is very well managed - very clean (spotless), staff always there to help, implementing a quiet-hour policy at night, many amenities, including laundry, bike rent, free wi-fi, and free coffee/tea....

We had a fantastic time at Bear on the Lake! Both the private rooms and dorms are spotless and comfortable. The hostel has a gorgeous view over Bras d'Or Lake and is just a five-minute drive from the grocery store. It's also an easy (and scenic!) drive up to the Cabot Trail. There was plenty of good company around the...

Had the privilege of staying at this Hostel for 2 nights recently and would have to say it's the best hostel I've ever stayed at. It has everything you want in a hostel and more at an affordable price, and the owner, Carmen, is a wonderful host, thank you for a wonderful stay.
