I stayed here here with my mom in late June 2016 as we wanted to look around Cape Breton before continuing our adventure. The place was beautiful and very clean. We had a private room with a bathroom and common area shared between the two private rooms upstairs. The bed was prehaps not the most comfortable but by no means... More

Thank you Jaklyn for the positive review! We were happy to host you and your mom and glad to hear you thought we were amazing :) We were disappointed to hear that you found the queen bed to be uncomfortable as we bought new mattresses for the private rooms just last summer. It may be that you enjoy a softer... More

The staff is great. The guests visiting when I stayed were friendly, which, in my opinion, is an indicator of a great hostel. The major downfall I found is one bathroom to a dozen beds in the first floor. Get up early, otherwise, if you have a car, you can visit the provincial park just a couple of km down... More

Thank you David for staying at our place and for the review! I'm happy to hear you think our staff and place are great but concerned that you didn't experience our multiple bathrooms. Perhaps in future we can do a better job of showing you around our place as there are two bathrooms available to your room of 5 people... More

It was a nice stay on a beautiful place. Liam did a really good job. Petfect location to explore the whole Cape Breton. The kitchen has more or less everything what you need. Sadly no brakfast. The hostel is on a beautiful spot with a beautiful view to the lake d'or.

Bear on the Lake Guesthouse, it's a nice and pleasant hostel to stay with furniture and room functional and the staff is really kind and helpful. Although we just stay here for one night, we'll choose here as accommodation again!

I go every year to stay here for Celtic Colours Festival - it is not in a town so you must have a car or bike to get around. However if you are lucky enough to stay here you will have instant friends - a great house that offers shared rooms (bunk beds) or private rooms but the large shared... More

Really nice hostel with both dorms and private rooms. Nice Kitchen. Like the fact that there is one big table because it helps meeting other travellers. One of the cleanest hostels that I have been in. Nice view of the lake. Good location to explore the Cabot Trail from.

We stayed just one night in one of the private rooms, shared bathroom with the other private room, very quiet and clean hostel. Extremely comfortable bed! We were just here for a very quick stop, but it would e a fun place to stay a few nights, get to know the other travellers, play some of their board games and... More

Very clean, super friendly staff and guests. Stayed two nights on or way to the Cabot trail and One night on our way back. Perfect location for visits to beaches, national parks, celeidhs, Louisbourg and ferries to Newfoundland. The private rooms upstairs also have a private balcony, queen size beds, and a private lounge. This place is awesome!! Loved that... More

Bear on the Lake is a very nice place to stop. It is very clean and the staff make you feel comfortable. You will find everything you need. There are some nice rules that help to keep the place clean as: to remove your shoes, to move back your dishes when you finish to wash it, ...I am sure you... More

I agree with the other reviews - this is a WELL run hostel with a great atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the other guests. Such interesting people and conversations! The private room we had was better than many hotel rooms, and the view is amazing. We enjoyed being able to make our own meals, and felt like we didn't... More
