Pros: Great hosts Good onsite food/restaurant Beautiful site Rooms are basic but clean Cons: Too far out in the middle of nowhere No phone service Hard to find- don’t try to use GPS and certainly don’t plan to arrive in the dark. It’s near impossible to find it. bugs and flies haven at night
We were looking for accommodation near the Cabot Trail but a little out of the way. We had an adventure finding it as our GPS got very confused and sent us down a ski trail; but after asking some locals we found it. We were greeted by our hosts Herman and Ruth. The rooms were clean and warm, the bed comfortable. The scenery however was spectacular with the river and autumn colours a great backdrop. The food in the restaurant was delicious. I had the trout, a few of us had the Bratwurst and others had the pork schnitzel. Everybody enjoyed their meal. After a walk along the river in the morning Herman and Ruth cooked breakfast. They offered us their home made Bircher muesli and the rest of our party had eggs and bacon. Driving out we enjoyed the view and with the right directions made it back to the Cabot Trail. Staying at the Big Intervale Fishing Lodge was like staying with friends. If you are planning a visit Herman told us to ignore the GPS and use Google Maps. I'd recommend this place to anybody. …
This place was just what we were looking for: off the beaten track, and spectacularly beautiful and serene. Comfortable well designed room, warm and highly informative and helpful hosts, and delicious food. Looking forward to coming back for a longer stay, with fishing rods. We really felt we were away from it all when we stayed here, Bravo to the hosts!
We were in the middle of a week trip in Cape Breton and this was by far the best place we stayed. From the owners, cabins, to the food, everything was above our expectations. I can't say enough about the food, we had a package that included our meals and it was the best decision we made. The owners even gave us great advice on fishing spots and we caught fish! Thinking this place will become part of an annual trip to the Margaree! When my girlfriend made the reservation a few months in advance, she mentioned it was my birthday and I liked cheesecake. They remembered and baked a cheesecake especially for me! You can't compare that kind of hospitality and customer service.
Oh, the dirt road was long, but at the end, the place was amazing. I envied the owner for being able to live in such a beautiful place between the hills, with big trees and a river running by. If we were in the area a couple weeks later (we were there in mid. Sept.), we could even see the fall color. We stayed for three nights and had two dinners. The cabin was clean. The food, oh, was so delicious! People drove hours to come here for the food! The owners were very friendly. They contacted a fishing guide (Leonard) for my husband, who was very professional and he helped my husband caught three trouts at the Margaree River. :D All in all, it was a very good experience. I highly recommend it.
