Detailed Reviews
We were there in June. The room (king-size and on the 2nd floor without an elevator) was large and roomy. There were two issues with it.
1. The heat (which is needed in Labrador even in June) when turned on was very noisy and could not be used. They brought us a portable heater instead, which worked well.
2. Underneath our window behind the building there was a generator which created fumes. We were not originally aware of this and had kept the window open to get fresh air.

The bed was comfortable , staff were friendly .Great location not too long a drive to catch the Ferry across to St Barbe . We ate at the restaurant there and it was a delicious Meal . What else can I say ,not much as we only spent one night there, checked in around 5 pm. , in the afternoon and checked out around 6 A.M., in the morning to catch Ferry . Everything was clean and neat ,very quiet ..

Very friendly staff and a nice hotel. The mattress I had could use an update (could feel every spring) and the pillows were hard as rocks. Definitely a little dated and expensive but good for stopping to catch some zzzz's....definitely better than sleeping in the truck!!

The hotel itself is very dated and our room was not very clean. The stains on the carpet were atrocious and there were crumbs on the floor. When we informed the front desk staff they were quite rude and told us they can ensure the room was cleaned and we could go ahead and stay somewhere else if we wanted. A short while later the front desk staff called up to our room and offered to move us to a suite for the same price. The suite was nicer and cleaner but still very dated and the bed was very hard. The food at the restaurant and the proximity to the ferry are the only good things about this hotel. Definitely not worth the price and won't stay here again.

We are sorry to hear that you were not pleased with your stay. We take great pride in the cleanliness of our establishment, and often receive compliments to this effect. If it was not clean, there must have been an error at the front desk in assigning the room, as again, we work hard to ensure that every room is clean and sanitized. We do apologize if our staff did not initially respond to your situation in an appropriate manner - this should never happen, as customer service is another of our top priorities. We take this very seriously, as our guests are the reason we exist. We thank you for bringing this to our attention and do wish you the very best in your future travels.

The face to face service was excellent. Lady at front desk was very nice and helpful. Although the lack of communication wasn't the best. No notification letting us know that the kitchen and complimentary continental breakfast isn't a option anymore. The kitchen to not open until 11am. And still the same price overpriced rate. We as a family choose this hotel for the quick serve-yourself options with kids and to be able to make a early boat. Very disappointing this time. We know covid plays a part and just the knowledge of that service being gone would of helped me prepare for 3 small hungry kids at 6am. And. Needs new beds..

Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your experience. As you are well aware, Covid restrictions and outbreaks shut a lot of things down, which was beyond our control. We worked hard to continue offering food to our guests during these challenging times. That, combined with limited staff, meant that we were only able to offer take-out service during select times. In the absence of serving breakfast, there were notifications in each room, outlining a food option (opening at 6 am) located just across the street. Just a few months into the pandemic, we, like everyone else, were trying our best. We apologize that this made things difficult for you. Thankfully, things are slowly getting back to normal. Wishing you and your family safe travels and all the best.

I gave it a 5 because of where it is and a nice place.
If you have trouble with stairs call ahead and request first floor, there is no elevator. Our room was on 2nd floor and at the opposite end from the restaurant and parking. We were on motorcycles and staying two nights with dirty laundry. We had plenty of stuff to carry to our room. We were young, I was only 74 and my buddy was only 62 but in good shape.
The room was large and nice. There was a small refrigerator with a very small freezer. I needed to use my extension cord, that I always take, for my CPAP. Otherwise there were adequate 120v outlets.
The room could use better lighting.
Restaurant in the building, Jungle Jim's. Some of their food is OK some is not. Take your chances. We liked the hamburger. I had bacon for my breakfast. It was almost not cooked. I should have sent it back but ate it anyway. I was sick the rest of the morning.
I cut my finger very deep on my knife cutting zip ties from my motorcycle. It would not stop bleeding. My buddy taped it up with some clotting bandage. He offered to stich it up. He had patched up hogs and dogs. Ha Ha! I had to ride my motorcycle to the emergency room for three stitches. The person at the front desk told us where the hospital was. It healed up fine. My buddy took the stiches out later on the trip.

My husband and I stayed here a few weeks back. We were in bed at around 3am when a strange man walked into our room.
This man was given a key card to enter our room. There was no option to deadbolt the door.
When we checked out the next morning my husband told the receptionist and the only response was "sorry." There was no offer for a discounted rate or free night.
I believe the very least that a hotel can offer is privacy and security, to which they provided neither.
I decided to email them later that day and voice my opinion, no response.
I would give this hotel less than 1 star if it were possible.

I typically have low expectations for independent northern hotels. This one set the standard. Walked into the room to the smell of mould. Carpets extremelydirty and should be removed. Room was nice size. Staff friendly but the smell is overwhelming.

To begin, we would like to apologize that your stay was during a time when we were changing out some pipes under the building. This summer, we are doing renovations which also involves plumbing refits. This was the smell that you encountered and is no longer present. It is important for us to note that it was definitely NOT mould. Again, we are sorry that your stay was not how it should have been. Take care and safe travels.

Big surprise, I was expecting this to be a run down motel but it is great. REally nice room which was very big. Lots of storage and room to move around. Comfortable bed. The bathroom is split in 2 parts - sink and closet in 1 part, tub & toilet in the other which seems to be common in Nfld and Labrador.
If you crane your neck you could see the harbour and an iceberg floating in it. Good food.

From the outside, the hotel does not seem that large, but it is.
Upon entry, to the left is the dining room and the guest rooms to the right. There is also a gift shop located next to the front desk.
The rooms look newly remodeled and are a good size. There were two full-size beds, which were comfortable, but very soft. A microwave and fridge, long angled desk with two drawers and two chairs. I like that the toilet and sink are separated. While one person is either in the shower or on the toilet, the other person can still use the sink area to wash up. There is also a low table next to the sink to place all of your toiletry items on. The only thing I did not like about the room is the low lighting. During the day with the shades open, it is very bright. At night, quite the opposite.
Across the street is a Robin's Restaurant. The beach is a 30-minute walk.
The dining room food was good. We ate dinner and breakfast there. Portions were a nice size. The only dish I would not recommend is the Basque Chicken. It tasted like processed chicken with a can of some sauce thrown over it sitting on a bed of bland wild rice that had all kinds of things mixed in it. Yuk! The cod dinner was definitely a better choice.
If looking for a place to stay in this area, I would RECOMMEND it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your experience with us. You are right in mentioning that our space is larger than it sometimes appears. We are the largest hotel in southern Labrador with 69 rooms, 5 housekeeping units and 10 econo units. As you noted, the rooms are constantly being remodeled to offer quality service to each of our guests. We are happy you enjoyed it! In terms of your concern about the Basque chicken - we are sorry that this meal was not to your liking. It is actually a very popular meal choice at our restaurant for group tours. The chicken is definitely not processed - it is Grade A chicken. The sauce is actually a special recipe developed by a chef from the Basque Country to reflect the Basque history in the region. Again, it is typically well received by our guests, as is the cod option that you preferred. Thank you again for your recommendation and kind words. Wishing you all the best from Labrador.
