If you want to stay where kids are constantly running through the halls yelling and their parents doing nothing then this is your place to stay. Nobody expects kids to be silent and I dont blame them; I blame their parents who seem to all have a skin full of booze and simply dont care what their kids get up to as long as they let them go on with their drinking. I have stayed in more hotels and apartments than I care to remember and this is the only time I have ever experienced this level of total disarray. Aside from that, the hotel is nice, room is fine, and location is good; but not worth putting up with the culture of parents staying here.

The Cahilty is a ski in/out hotel conveniently located in Sun Peaks resort. Ski down the hill, take your skis off and walk into the restaurant or the secure boot room. The hotel itself is about 30 years old. Guests wear ski boots to and from their rooms so the hotel is a bit dated in both decor and design and the woodwork is showing signs of heavy use over the years. The hotel is kept in good repair and there was nothing obviously broken/missing/needing replacement. Abundant towels, comfortable beds, heating works plus tea and a coffee machine in the rooms. I feel the Cahilty is tidy rather than clean. Whilst it certainly wasn’t grubby and there was not any litter or mess in evidence, I did find a dirty sock from a previous occupant and a plastic food wrapper under my bed. I didn’t venture any further. Funny yes, but maids who cannot be bothered to vacuum under the bed makes you start wondering what other shortcuts might have been made and not in a good way... The staff were all very friendly and helpful at check in, check out and at any time guests needed help during their stay in resort. Noise; if you are “sensitive to noise” then best book elsewhere. Soundproofing is poor (non-existent?) so conversations can be heard very clearly from people in the hallway or in the next room. So if the other guests are particularly loud then it will sound like they are in the room with you. Didn’t bother me much but it did bother some other guests who presumably were not aware before booking. The bar/restaurant (ski in/out) looks out over the pistes with a sunny terrace area to chill out when warm enough. The bar had a good selection of beers, wines, long drinks. Happy Hour 3-5pm. Food was fine; snacks or a meal. Inside there were big screen TVs to see various sports (it’s Canada so there will be hockey, live or recorded, on at least one of the TVs!) Prices are reasonable and the service is friendly. The skiing itself in Sun Peaks was very good. Snow conditions great, pistes maintained, signage so-so but no queues to speak. Canadians love to chat on the ride up and at the bottom argue that somebody else should go first before them. Just like in France, not! However, lifts. Sun Peaks Management Company runs the new lifts slower than their rating and some of the old lifts are so slow that it makes certain areas almost unskiable. (Who wants to sit 26minutes on a chair to gain only 800m vertical?!? It really feels like you could walk faster.) This is very unfortunate because this area has such great potential. Locals tell me that Sun Peaks is run as a Far Eastern property development company that happens to have ski lifts in the middle. Say no more. Anyway these niggly issues aside I’d definitely go back to both the Cahilty and Sun Peaks. We had a fantastic trip and there’s nothing to suggest we wouldn’t next time either! BTW Nancy still does resort tours a couple times a week, so make sure you join in if you are able. Not often you get a chance to say you've skied with a legend!

This is a good hotel for the price right in the village. Yes the rooms are dated but you are paying way less than other hotels or AirBNB. I love people who complain about getting a murphy bed when it shows the room on the website??? Ski hill accommodation's are very expensive that's just the way it is but this hotel is reasonable the rooms are clean they have hot tubs that were nice and you are literally right in the village and right at the lifts. Who can ask for anything more.

We stayed at the Cahilty late January 2023. I had written another review in 2009 when my husband and I first stayed there but I thought the return trip warranted another review. Pros: Location, location, location!! There really are few other hotels at Sun Peaks that have the proximity to the village and TRUE ski in and out abilities. Places that advertise ski in and ski out that mean 100 yards of shuffling along on flat ground to reach a lift are not ski in and out in my opinion. At the Cahilty you grab your skis from the ski storage area, up a flight of stairs and you are on an actual ski run. Quick slide down to one of two chairs or the surface lift and good to go! Same at the end of the day…link up to Rambler and you are back where you started. Wide range of room types. We had a family suite which was a hotel room (2 beds and a bathroom) which adjoins with a studio unit. Living, kitchen and full bath. It was super, all appliances worked, had all plates/cutlery etc…you would need. I would suggest 2 frying pans for each unit though. Making say a breakfast of sausage and pancakes is tough with just one frying pan, and 2 would make those with food allergies probably a little more comfortable too. Beds and pillows were comfortable and welcome rest spot after a day on the slopes. Friendly staff. Everyone we encountered was helpful and accommodating. Some might say it lacked the personal touches that were evident before being bought by Bear Country, but still lovely folks that work there. Any requests were answered promptly and in general staff was friendly. Apres at the Cahilty restaurant. Food was great and price was also great. Go early or reserve yourself a spot ahead of time as its only from 3-5pm. Our server was brand new and we still had excellent service, food was hot, beer was cold and everything was tasty and reasonably priced. Cons: Not many, some say the hotel is a bit tired and outdated and to those people I would say are you there for how the hotel looks or the outdoor activities? Water pressure is not super and hot water depended on time of day, we assumed if you could take your shower when not a lot of other people were doing so your chances of really hot water were better Our rooms were right near the administrative offices on the ground floor which was for the most part totally cool. However, it might be good to remind staff going in and out of these offices particularly in the early morning hours to be mindful of the doors and how they’re opening and closing them. There are people across and down the hall sleeping and those doors opening and closing even if infrequently are LOUD! This was our daughter’s first trip to a big mountain and she loved it. She enjoyed the Cahilty, our room and the location. She liked seeing the many awards and accolades of Nancy Greene-Raine and we even saw her a couple times around the resort. Good Canadian skiing history there for sure. We enjoyed the Cahilty for our recent stay and also 14 years ago. We would not hesitate to book a room here again should our ski journey take us to Sun Peaks once more!

Friendly staff upon check in. However, there was no air conditioning in the rooms, no air movement either. they offered a fan in 29 degree heat! But there’s nothing mentioned about air conditioning when you book. The floor was so dirty in our room, our feet were gross on the bottom. Old appliances, odd smell in the room and hallways and dirty hot tub. The bed was so hard we didn’t sleep all night, plus the heat in the room on a summer night. This isn’t a hotel, it’s a rental unit that someone owns. We didn’t stay the 2 nights that we booked as we couldn’t stand being in that room again. I have contacted the manager for a refund, but have yet to hear back. We stayed in room 446. We will not stay at this place again. It ruined our trip to Sun Peaks.

Dear Tracy and Gregg, Thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry your experience didn’t match your expectations. We already replied to your reviews on other channels including your email. However, since the hotel does not have AC we do not advertise it. If the hotel would have AC it would be listed under the amenities on Expedia. Also, Expedia does not give us the option to mention that there is no AC. We do advertise heating as we do have heating. We always recommend telling our Front Desk about issues with the room or facility during your stay to be able to fix it if there is anything wrong. However, we have our very own hot tub team on site that is maintaining our hot tubs every day to make sure the chemicals are balanced and the water and tubs are clean. We hope that we can convince you to change your mind about another visit to our property. With much appreciation, Bear Country at Cahilty Hotel & Suites

I have come to stay for meetings and conferences at Sun Peaks several times and I rate this as one of the best. My wife has been recovering from an illness and we were treated by well by your staff. We would like to especially like to acknowledge and express Stacey. She was so kind, warm, friendly and helpful to my wife, my niece and me. I will defiantly recommend your hotel to anyone who comes to Sun Peaks!

The hotel has had rugged use and looks a bit tired. The dog friendly room we were in was compact but very practical, and had everything we needed. Quite a bit of noise transference from the hallways during the day but quiet times are respected so the nights were fine.Indoor and outdoor hot tubs are small but well-maintained. The fitness room was a pleasant surprise with 4 cardio machines, free weights up to 50 pounds, benches and 4 universals. Very pleasant staff, prompt service, and good central location. Wide variety of types and costs of rooms. Dog charge is high relative to other hotels.

The two young ladies at the front desk were very disappointing. They were bored with their job. Antagonistic and rude. A very poor introduction to this hotel. Communication was not what you expect when you wish to rent a room. We went to another hotel.

This location is basically an upscale hostel. We travel quite a bit and are happy if the price matches the location and cleanliness of the room. This property was expensive and not clean. The check-in staff were wearing ripped jeans and t-shirts-seemed quite disinterested in us as guests-did not ask about our stay at check-out. Which is at 10am The queen bed booked was a MURPHY bed-in a $200 a night ski resort hotel! Essentially a pull-out couch-that looked and felt like it was going to come out of the wall. This property is very very old and is showing all of its age, stains, dirty linens, and a MURPHY Bed in as the main bed in a hotel room. Quite embarrassing for Ms. Green to have her champion name attached to a 1-star property

Returned to Nancy greene’s Cahility hotel for 2 weeks ski holiday again after visiting in 2019. Our self contained unit offered everything that was required for our stay. Serviced daily and linen changed half way through our stay. Nothing was too much trouble when we made any enquiry regarding local places to visit and any request was happily obliged. Cannot speak highly of staff both front office and housekeeping personnel. Parking at basement level very reasonably priced and secure. Looking forward to returning next ski season
