We really enjoyed our time at Horsethief Lodge. We stayed just prior to the ski hill opening, so it was a very quiet, relaxing getaway. We were in a lower unit, which was comfortable, albeit a bit dark. The hot pools (there are 3 separate pools) at the top of the resort near the ski hills were open with a max capacity of 9 people, so we felt safe going there every day. All the properties around the ski hill are connected by stairs and pathways, so it was an easy little walk to get to the pools from our unit.

Below are my pros & cons:
Pros:
Super helpful & friendly staff
Great price
Huge hot tubs
Kitchen had all the utensils/dishes/appliances you'd need
Wood fireplace
Decent sized TV with cable
Reliable wifi
Underground parking
Extra effort made to sanitize bedding
Lots of comfortable seating in the living room
The framing is made of concrete making the lower units fairly quiet
Beautiful area with lots of walking paths

Cons:
The LED lighting in the units were super blue and made the room feel like an industrial warehouse
The beds were quite firm - it might be ok for some but it was too firm for me
The water pressure in the shower was just meh
No curved shower curtain rods (I prefer these so the curtain doesn't touch you while in the shower)

All in all, we definitely would stay at Horsethief Lodge again in the low season!

My husband and I spent a week at this resort during tight Covid restrictions. We were 100% comfortable with our stay for many reasons... The ease and security of check in/out, the cleanliness and sanitation of our suite, the lack of interaction with other guests (private entry), underground parking, proximity to walk to and enjoy nature. Communication with the resort was clear and consistent which we appreciated. The hot tubs and dressing rooms were open observing Covid safety rules, and there were times that we were the only people using them. The slopes weren't open during the week we were there, but we waked and hiked nearly every day. We especially loved the Nordic trails. On two occasions we borrowed movies from the timeshare office. They also helped get us extra kitchen equipment that was removed which made our stay super enjoyable. We also were able to skate at a nearby lake! It doesn't get more Canadian than that.

The area is so beautiful you don't mind staying in an old unit as these units are old. The two bedrooms have lots of stairs, a set to go up to the kitchen and another set to go up to the bedrooms. Unit is large enough. Wood building so you can hear your neighbors. Bring Duraflame logs for the fireplace, also bring a lock for the pool lockers as they don't supply them. Check to make sure the BBQ has propane so you don't run out during cooking which has happened. To walk from the unit to the pool area there are approx 140 stair steps but you can walk the road area to get there and avoid the stairs. Nothing was open but the general store at this time. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would return as the area is so nice and quiet at this time of year.

I booked this 3 bedroom townhouse through the Registry Collection/RCI for a golfing trip. There were five mature adults and we had a wonderful time. The kitchen was very well equipped and all the appliances worked. The beds were super comfortable. The townhouse was very clean and there was generous storage space. It was great to have underground parking directly underneath. I enjoyed the upper lodge pools but little else was open during this shoulder season. We did have a few concerns. First, this is an old building (1970s or 80s) and there are no smoke detectors. Second, the “underground “ garage leaked badly during a day of heavy rain. How structurally sound is the building? Third, the steep stairs (two flights within the townhouse) are challenging to negotiate with luggage. They are a fall risk for the able and completely inaccessible for anyone with significant mobility problems. Fourth, the renovated interior, while well designed, demonstrated some sloppy execution. One kitchen cupboard could not be fully opened and the tiled floors in the kitchen and one of the bathrooms were not completely grouted. We requested additional dishcloths and other supplies five days into our trip, but they never arrived. I guess gaps in service are now the norm post Covid. Overall, a very enjoyable trip with accommodation that was more than adequate but not luxurious. I would definitely return to Panorama but would look for more modern accommodation next time.

We were really looking forward to a getaway and Panorama is beautiful, even off season; however these units are dated. They are clean but they are dated. The paint is peeling on the patio, the tiles on the fireplace are crooked and stained. The furniture (coffee table) is very scratched up and the carpet is functional and newish but I don't know why at a mountain resort you wouldn't have hardwood floors. The hot tubs closest to us were closed. The t.v. and internet worked occasionally. The hot water tank was turned off when we got there and we discovered it had a leak when we turned it on. I say all this because it makes me so sad to know that with just a little bit of work these could be amazing units. They are in a beautiful location. Their competition (AirBnB) offers much nicer units for the same price. I just don't understand RCI timeshares. They have guaranteed income, 24/7 from their owners yet they are often the worst maintained places you will stay. The RCI Points system nickel and dimes you with housekeeping fees, resort fees, etc. which often make it cheaper to stay elsewhere. I just don't understand. Andrea, who I believe is in charge of the Panorama timeshare, was kind and helpful. It's too bad they don't give her some units she can really be proud of. Went to visit nearby Fairmont RCI resort and the employee there spoke of her constant complaints from RCI members about how the RCI system works. When will RCI stand out above the crowd and stop basing their business model goals on signing up as many new members as they can and rather base it on having the best customer service and the fairest values in the travel industry.

Thank you for providing your feedback regarding your stay with us. I apologize for the delay in responding. Panorama is beautiful, and these units are dated however we pride ourselves on unit cleanliness and doing what we can in terms of refurbishment on an annual basis. The hot tubs in the Horsethief Condo's will remain closed until Stage Four of the Government of BC's restart plan. The hot water tank issue was my fault and I apologize that this impacted your stay. I am proud of my property. I am sorry that you are disppointed with your RCI experience. I hope that you will return to Panorama in the future and that it is enjoyable. Best Regards, Andrea Hopkins

Excellent mountain resort, lots of amenities for winter and even summer activities. Resort shows it's age but staff working hard to maintain it. Our 2 bedroom unit was huge with 2 full and a large great room on main floor
Staff are very friendly and go of their way to assist.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom unit, which was conveniently located on site. The underground parking was definitely a big perk, and we were able to park our car not far from our unit. The location was beautiful, and I do recommend anyone staying here to ensure you rent a car that has winter tires, and is heavy enough for snow travel! The roads up to the location are windy mountain roads and not everyone who drives on it appreciates it when you don't go over the posted speed limit, so the stress level is a bit high. That being said, the drive and the area is beautiful. I only gave this an average rating because it is just that, average. And there are a few things that are not great. The heating being one. It continues to heat, but only when it senses movement in the condo. So when you are sleeping, or sitting watching a movie, the room temperature drops. And with the bedroom door closed, you are looking at 15-16 when you wake up. It's not ideal. The windows are really drafty to boot, which doesn't help. The other issue, is the bed/bedding. It's uncomfortable, and 'sharp'. We ended up with bumps and irritated skin on both of our bodies from the bed. Back, arms, legs, ankles. I honestly couldn't wait to get out of that bed and back into something with 'soft' sheets. We went during shoulder season, which meant that there were no restaurants or facilities open to us, so we can't review or comment on those. That being said, going on the shoulder season is a little boring leaving little to do around the area. We enjoyed the trip to BC and the little town of Invermere which was only 15 minutes drive away, was welcoming.

Horsethief Lodge is a great place to stay when skiing at Panorama Mountain Resort. These are older condominiums but well maintained and kept in excellent condition. The kitchen had everything we needed, the wifi was easy to use, lots of television channels. We could ski from the slopes right to the door of our unit. What more could you ask of accommodation at a ski resort.

We have stayed at Horsethief several times but because of COVID some things were a bit different this year. Health orders prevented some services from being offered and some amenities from being open. This is not the resorts fault, they were just following the provincial health orders. Everything which was allowed to be open was well maintained and clean. We had a great week at this resort.

Horsethief Lodge is an aging property with some slips in general maintenance. Our unit on the lower section of the main floor opened onto a patio that was more like a thoroughfare with people walking across it to access units on the other side. Thre unit floor was very cold desipte it being a relatively warm weekend. Our tub drain was clogged and the bathroom door handle was loose - two issues we corrected ourselves rather than spend precious time arranging with staff. The bed was what you'd expect from an older spring mattress. The couch in the living room was comfortable and other amenities in functional condition.

The biggest advantage of this unit was the fact that the ski lift was literally 30 feet away making access to the hill some of the best I've experienced.

I'd stay again, but now I know not to expect more.

HI there! Thank you very much for the review. I agree that access to the Toby Chair is spectacular from the Horsethief Lodge units. I am sorry that there were maintenance issues that should have been addressed before your arrival. I will share this review with my team to ensure we are striving to do better next time. Beds were brand new in 2018 so should be more comfortable than your experience. We will look into that as well. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

I am a Technical Delegate (level 4 for cross country skiing) and the Cross Country tracks out to Hale Hut were great for both classic and skate skiing. While at the Cliff Hanger Restaurant (superb food and service), I chatted with expert downhillers who had nothing but good reviews.

The 2 bedroom unit had two baths wit showers and a relaxing atmosphere.

At this time I'm not aware of any change in the covid restrictions that would allow pools or hot tubs to open so I would expect no accommodations to offer these options at this time.

Hi there! You will love the drive! Roads will be clear unless there is a snow storm which the forecast for that week looks pretty good. The road for Banff also will be clear, during this time snow is very little even thou we just had a winter storm last weekend.

Hi Julie M, There is a shuttle that runs from the Calgary Airport direct to the resort. It only runs during the ski season and does book up quickly. Please contact Panorama Resort directly as they are the vendor that operates the shuttle. You will need to got to the Panorama Resort Website. I cannot included the website link in my response as it is limited by this website but if you go to the main Panorama Resort website and follow planning, getting here airport transfers or call 1-800-663-2929 to get information.
Answer from Andrea H
Panorama is 2.5 hours from Banff or Lake Louise. In May, the Picnic deli is open daily for breakfast & lunch and the TBar is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday (closed Monday & Tuesday). Once the Greywolf golf course opens, their restaurant, The Cliffhanger is open from 8am-8pm daily. Usually open from mid-May onward for the golf season. The resort is about 20 minutes to Invermere where you can visit several restaurants. Hope this is helpful!

Because of animals (Moose/Deer) you be best to wait until sun rise before venturing out. Spend as much time as you can in Banff and Lake Louise. If you were to drive right through from Banff to Panorama budget about 90 minutes. Enjoy the WOW factor of the magnificent Canadian Rockies.
