Did the Mountain Trek experience a couple of years ago about this same time. It is an experience like no other. If you lead a stressful life, this is a great program for distressing. My fitness level was already high but they challenged me every...More
The best decision I have ever made was to go to Mountain Trek. The food was delicious and I was never hungry. My classes were Informal and very informative. We actually were encouraged to soak our feet during the afternoon classes after hiking each day....More
Have you ever wished that an expert team could whisk you away and transform your body, mind and spirit? Well, that is what Mountain Trek does in a week. I just returned from a week with them at Rancho La Puerta in Mexico and it...More
I spent two weeks at Mountain Trek and was pleasantly surprised at how much I learned and how much it improved my fitness. I was a bit worried that it would be a kind of retreat where they give you bland food and an overly...More
Hmmm. Where to start. At the beginning with small steps. (Learned this at MT.) I am TYPE A+. I drive myself HARD. Wanted to go there to lose weight and regain fitness (did both of these) but it was SO. MUCH. MORE.

Great question, Jalapin. I think that anyone, regardless of how obese he or she is, would benefit from the exercise, healthy diet, and lifestyle guidance that Mountain Trek provides. They make sure that each guest's hikes are appropriate for his/her own level and ability, even if that means guiding a guest 1:1. It's a wonderfully supportive atmosphere.
Even more importantly, the education that they provide is straightforward and is designed to be incorporated into your life after you leave, so the benefits of going to Mountain Trek are not just week-long. But I suggest that you call them directly, and ask them your question(s) - they can also tell you what their experience has been with "seriously obese" seniors.
There is no smoking allowed anywhere, as well as no alcohol nor caffeine. The classes/staff/daily activities are a great support for better heatlth and personal choices. It was literally life altering for me.

Yes! it's impressive how much time they spend making sure you are hiking in the best group for you---and all the guides have walkie-talkies to allow people to switch groups at some point during the day if you are feeling particularly strong or tired and need to change groups. There are many steep and challenging hikes, especially if you want them!
