Just to enjoy the last sun of this year I decided to book the Gladiola Star hotel in all in formula. And I didn't regret at all.
Let me first write that Gladiola Hotel and gladiola star hotel are in the same huge complex, gladiola star in the middle and gladiola at left and right of the gladiola star hotel.
There is one swimming pool for the whole complex, so I guess when it's full house it's a bit too small...but when I stayed here there were only 20 guests. And the beach is just a few meters away. All clubs and bars are within 100 meters, but were all closed so no loud nights at all.
Rooms at gladiola star were nice and cleaned daily.
All inclusive was great. Certainly to know that there were only 20 guests there were daily buffets. Variety was ok and good taste. In my opinion staff was always helpful and friendly.
The last 3 nights only 3 rooms were occupied and the management decided to switch of the aircon system. This was a pity but understandable. Nights cooled down so it was not too bad.
Over all... nice price quality.

Read other reviews before going so had reservations. 6 hour trip from the airport to the hotel and arrived in sand storm and bolt lightening coming in from the sea. In the fourteen days we were there we got power cuts, an earthquake, no hot water on one morning, but all this was not the hotel's fault. Although the room was a bit dated, we had clean sheets and towels most days and the hotel was very clean inside and out. The staff were great and helpful, and nothing too much trouble for them. The chef was wonderful when we ate in and the food he prepared was the very best. The area where the hotel was located was a little run down and lot of hotels were still projects in the making, in the fact they had started them, but not finished. But hey look at the cost £1150 for two weeks in peak season, loads of sun and still change from £1000 spending money. If you had gone to cornwall for two weeks it would have cost a lot more. So we highly recommmend this hotel for vfm.

My partner and myself have just spent 2 weeks at the Hotel Gardia. The hotel is amazing, and the staff just lovely. Nothing is too much trouble. Everything you ask for is "no problem". The one problem we found was the location. We were bed and breakfast and going out for food in the evening caused a problem because the few eating places anywhere near the hotel were not very good. A taxi was needed to go anywhere else and while not expensive, we would have preferred the hotel just a little nearer to more amenities so that we could have walked. The views from all the hotel rooms are wonderful, over the forest to the sea. The swimming pool is too small and many clients go to the hotel next door. If you do sit by the pool the service from the waiters is excellent and they do a gorgeous white coffee complete with cream. A suggestion would be to re-build the swimming pool over the road on the area the hotel use for a car park and re-locate the car park to where the swimming pool is now. This would prevent clients going elsewhere to swim and spend their money. All in all a good holiday.

We have just returned from a week in the Gardia - this hotel, although not in the best situation if you want to walk to places, is well worth a visit. There is a shuttle bus available to and from the hotel daily, minimum cost.

However I would strongly suggest that you did as we did and ask the Hotel to order you a taxi and ask for Emile to drive you to wherever you want to go. He is trustworthy, dependable, and a GOOD driver - of which there are not many!!

The hotel far exceeded our expectations, special thanks to Naz and "Tommy" Petrov.

The Grand Casino on Golden Sands is particularily worth a visit - free entry and free drink and food (take yout passport to join) with no need to gamble.

We have already booked to go back next year!

After reading comments on here, we almost cancelled our holiday, but then decided to see for ourselves and am so glad we did! All the hotel staff were extremely friendly and courteous at all times. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
The rooms were adequate and were cleaned daily. The bed linen and towels were changed every 3 days.
All the rooms have stunning views of the sea.
As advertised, this hotel is in a quieter area away from Golden sands. The sky bar and disco are opened on request.
The pool is cleaned daily, and my daughters loved it! It was used by several guests every day. It is plenty big enough to cater for the 20 rooms the hotel offers.
I must admit, I did miss having a lift, but the male receptionist and waiter helped us with our luggage without us having to ask.
I honestly think the staff couldn't have been friendlier and more helpful.
The Gardia was perfect for our holday.....away from all the hustle and bustle of the clubs and pole dancing bars of Golden Sands in the evenings.
The hotel was well lit at night, although the surrounding area is not. It is about a 15 minute walk to the beach.
The hotel provides a free secure car park.
We all loved it, and would definately return.

Having booked this hotel 1 week before travelling, we didn't really know what to expect but what a fantastic experience.
All the staff bent over backwards to make our stay a memorable one.
The hotel is clean and due to the small number of rooms (20) is very friendly. If there is a very small drawback it would be the location although the chair-lift (if you dare) softens the burden.
Very relaxing and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing break.
The hotel runs a regular mini-bus to golden sands and varna which is another personal touch.
Can't wait to go back!!

The hotel itself is lovely, very very large but only caters for the germans Romanian and polish, no english food at all, breakfast was very poor unless you like hotdogs for breakfast and spaghetti bolognese!!! I went A/I with my mother, wish we hadn't of bothered as we ate out nearly every day and night.. if we ate in the hotel we only had the fruit and they did have nice cakes but that's about it, the pool area is at the front of the hotel which is very small and crowded with young aged people, this hotel is not for you if you want peace and quiet!! We had to move rooms on the 2nd night due to afew groups of lads playing loud music until 3am and not following the hotels policies, we complained and they sorted us out right away which was very good of them. I would not go back due to this reason and the food also.

room cramped, dated drab wallpaper, no water in bath or shower. antique air con couldnt get below 28c despite being on all day.. deafening noise from night club opposite hotel.. food adequate if you like luke warm chopped up frankfurters.. lobby & outside bar staff useless, loud drunken Germans everywhere, shouting & screaming till early hours.. no security.. 2 x small pools surrounded by back to back sun loungers..
lifts dirty & smelly... in all disappointing & wont be going anywhere near there again..

Bulgaria was a new experience for me. I went with my 25 year old daughter for "quality time". Our journey from the airport took 35 minutes by taxi. The hotel is separated into three parts in the same building - central is the main reception, bars and restaurant and 4 star accomodation. To the left is "Akatsia", the three star where we stayed and to the right Gladiola Star. Facilities are shared except the 4 star patrons eat evening meals before 3 star. At the front are two swimming pools, one for children and one adult. Not huge but sufficient albeit height of season the 600 rooms would overcrowd them. Across the road is the sandy beach stretching for miles and bordered all the way by tourist attractions (stalls, restaurants, bars, clubs). A land train service runs the length at 4 Lev (£2) each way.
The hotel was true 3 star. Basic bedrooms but clean and good condition only lacking a hairdryer. They were cleaned 6 days out of 7. The food was European (as opposed to Bulgarian) with salad bar and hot food bar that unusually included meat. No complaints except the inevitable repetition which the cooks did their best to avoid.Eating out always an option at very reasonable prices! There was no evening entertainment but the bars were well stocked with non watered down alcohol and large measures - a coke colouring in a glass of Vodka!
The staff were very efficient and courteous albeit difficult to make eye contact -aloof. The language barrier didn't help as mostly they didn't speak English at all. As it is a German hotel they were better versed in their language. In fact we were the only English among predominantly German patrons with a few Russians. That presented a problem in socialising due to the language barrier.
As a resort, there was plenty to offer including late night shops, nightclubs and an international casino as well as water sports.
The weather was beginning to change - dry and warm (20 deg) in the mornings but after lunch it became comparatively chilly.
Getting to see the real Bulgaria is difficult (not sure if advisable) with only a few trips and the only worthwhile one was a day trip to a Bulgarian folk village with horse and cart ride, visit monuments, lunch and a boat trip - cost £25 each and worth it. Generally, prices are low - cigarettes £2.50, beer £1 and a full meal with drinks £8-£10. 7 days was sufficient unless, in high season, you go for excessive sunbathing and partying.
