We stayed at Barcelo Royal Beach from Tuesday 26th July until Tuesday 2nd August, we occupied room D609 which had a sea view (more on that later) and were on a half board basis. We booked the hotel in 2019 with a view to stay 2020, we eventually got there this year, we were so looking forward to it. Disappointingly it’s not the five star experience we were looking forward to, more of a 2.5/3 star. We usually choose a hotel group which was an H followed by a number, I think we have been spoiled by this hotel chain. We arrived at the hotel in the evening, when we were checking in there was a group of people getting very heated with a middle aged, dark haired female receptionist (more on her later), we thought this is a good start. Our check in was fine and the young man polite and professional. The ‘bell boy’ took us to our room. Upon entering the room the room was clean and spacious as was the bathroom, the balcony was a decent size. As for the sea view, the sea was behind several other hotels, we could see the sea between two of the hotels and it could be seen on the horizon. The room looked tired and dated, that said the large bed was very comfy. We had no large towels in the bathroom, I went to reception and it was resolved a few hours later, it was an oversight. The good points; the hotel is in a good location, not far from the beach, the pool area is good, if you are able to get a sun bed, I saw people claiming beds at 0630! The staff in the Cape Emine restaurant were absolutely fantastic, a special thank you to Paula and the twins who always made us feel welcome. The food was good with plenty of choice, although the food was sometimes lukewarm. The pool bar staff were hit and miss. The bad points; in the week we were there our room was never cleaned. As always when on holiday we head back to our room about four o’clock for a rest, shower and get changed for dinner. Wednesday evening our bin was emptied when we were at dinner, Thursday the cleaners came at 1705, Friday at 1745, Saturday 1720, Sunday 1645, in the end we left a do not disturb sign on the door. Before the hotel responds by saying ‘we should have gone to reception’, having spoken to several other guests it was the same recurring theme – room not cleaned, go to reception – nothing is done. Household staff were nice ladies, we asked for coffee and were told ‘no coffee – we have toilet roles’. We had coffee replenished once in our stay, only by asking for some. Please don’t respond by saying they offered to clean your room – they must have realised each time they knocked. The bathroom needed work doing to it, it was in a pitiful state, miss matched floor and wall tiles, a tile on the bath panel looked as though it was ‘slapped’ on with excess adhesive/grout not cleaned off. The toilet seat was broken, the radiator had brown marks on it – I hope it was rust, the inlet pipes to the radiator were filthy as was behind the toilet, the shower head had water coming from the top and the rail holding the shower moved back and forth. The shower door didn’t close properly. Prior to our visit I had been in contact with Andrea 'K', always very helpful. My wife and I thought it would be nice gesture to say thank you personally and buy some flowers for her. I asked the middle aged dark haired receptionist if Andrea 'K' was at work, she said she didn’t know and then waved her hand above her head. I asked could she please check – at this point she looked away and totally ignored me, perfect customer care. I contacted Andrea to say I had tried to say thank you. I used both her names. She relied, I am glad you finally get to enjoy your holiday, and would not be in the office today but will be glad to meet us tomorrow if that is fine. She said that most of the staff at the reception know me as Mrs. 'K', they might have been a bit confused when just referring to my first name. I replied, that would be nice - if she wasn't too busy, and asked what time would be good for you? It’s just a quick thank you, To date I am still waiting for a reply. Having looked at other revues it is the same recurrent theme; rude reception staff, no towels and rooms not being cleaned. If management can’t be bothered to reply to an email, which is not very professional, and if the upper management have this attitude then why should the lower echelons bother. There is no excuse for the above. On reviews it always appears to be the fault on the paying guest, never the staff, I went back as far as 2017. The day before we left, as we always do, we ask reception to contact our private transfer company to confirm our pick up time. The young man on reception did just that, as he was on the telephone the same dark haired receptionist was walking past huffing and puffing and pulling faces – nice. Be aware that when hiring sun beds and parasols on the beach it will cost you 9 levs per item, and being a foreign visitor you won’t get a ticket – he pockets the money – nice little earner. Suffice to say we will not be returning, I expected more from the Barcelo brand, I am sure this hotel has fallen below their brand standards. We will, were we can, book with H??.…
This is my third time at this hotel, unfortunately no one took care on our room : we asked for cleaning at least five time but no one came to handle it. On the third day they came to the room but didn’t replace the sheaths and didn’t wash the floor .
Young/unprofessional and under staffed. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived we waited for 2 hours before we got our room, this happened to others we heard throughout the week, no urgency to resolve the matter. Our room had a door adjoining us to the room next door, on our first night there our neighbours arrived in the early hours and decided to check out our room, after dealing with it I called security to come and lock the door but they didn't have the key. Our first impressions of the place were not great. We expected the room to be made good on a daily basis, 3 times our bed was made for the week and not with clean sheets and twice we reckon she never even came into our room, no clean towels left on those occasions, condiments were rationed. On the plus side the bar and restaurant staff were very helpful, and the food was good in my opinion.…
Rooms were ok, lobby bar was great. Animation team as wel, they were fabulous. Especially Valeria ;). Iven made great cocktails, ask for him! The room service was great as well. There’s a great atmosphere on this resort.
We were in Barcelo for the first time and we love it. First good thing is that is located in the central area of Sunny beach but is calm and quiet. The pool is huge and clean. The restaurant is amazing and the food was extremely delicious. One of favourite things in the hotel definitely was the bars (there are 3), bartenders are great professionals. The entertainment around the pool is wonderful, there were lots of activities and fun games. We want to say one big thanks to the staff.
Entertainment staff very good and enthusiastic and encourage people to take part. Restaurant very good WiFi rubbish. Swimming pool excellent Pool bar toilet needs a good revamp. Rooms OK. Bar staff excellent
We came at 8/2022, for 5 nights, booked at booking and pay for nice holiday. When we arrived, we understand we get a famely room , smell disaster, not clean, the bathroom was bad- the water stay and dont go down, the toilet has no flow to wash . During the bacation, fidnd clean the room even once. No towels, no sheets, lots of dust in the room and none to speak with. We went every day to the " maneger" and nothing happend. We clean the roon alone as much as we can. It was realy very bad exspiriens. The pool and food nice. Never come back again
The entertainment crew are amazing and kind . Definitely will come back again! Love Alex and Valeria they are amazing . Thank you for an amazing visit . They always talk with us,we ♥️♥️laugh a lot with them and we enjoy our stay here. Thank you one more time! I love Barcelo!
i have stayed in many hotels but i have to say this was by far the worst, my room was above the K F C and my view from my window was an esculater to the shopping mall where everyone could stare into my room. The furniture looked like it had been dragged out of a skip. i understand that not all rooms have good views but this was scandalous and the hotels should let these out at a knock down price . If you try to complain all they do is shrug their shoulders and stare at you, the staff are as helpful as a chocolate fire guard, i don't think i ever saw one smile or have a joke or try to interact with you, everything is too much trouble. I don't think the room was cleaned once while we were in it
We arrived at the hotel late in the evening and were greeted with goodies and water as we had missed our all inclusive for the day. Also the food and drinks manager Paula noticed we were on honeymoon and delighted us with a bottle of champagne to help us celebrate! She even checked in with us throughout the week to make sure everything was going well. The food was AMAZING. I am fussy but I always had something to eat. I have also read in reviews that the food wasn't piping hot, however ive been to buffet restaurants at home and it wasnt either so i know what to expect. However it was beautifully cooked and full of flavour no matter what we had... the deserts were great too! The staff at the pool bar were fabulous too, always up for a chat and a laugh, I have to mention Deni (i think that is her name) always a smile and nothing was too much for her! Icecream and water was always available which was so needed in the heat. The pizzas at the pool bar were great too.... Sun loungers was not an issue for me, i like to be up early on holidays, however after 8.30am you might not get one. There was notes put on beds that were reserved and left however they didn't always take the towels away. I lay beside someone's towels on one day and the owners weren't seen until after 3pm! Others mentions the seagulls.... maximum i saw at one time was 6! The hotel is very close to the beach so you would expect to see them but it didnt annoy me at all! The entertainment team looked very busy and were always walking round the pool, but i never heard them once ask anyone to come join in which i feel would have been nice to feel like they wanted the guests to be included and play! Towel gate..... on the week we were there we had no towels for 3 and half days... not one towel. But we used the robes to dry ourselves and it wasnt an issue. We did contact reception to get more but they didn't have any to give us. Our room was cleaned everyday and our beds changed once in 7 nights which i am more than happy about. The air con was great and not at all noisy either! Without a doubt one of the nicest hotels i have ever stayed in, at home or abroad! I really did not want to leave. Thank you Barcelo Royal Beach for making our honeymoon one to remember.…
