To be perfectly honest the experience we had at the hotel was appalling. There is no signage to tell you where reception is as there are two building to the hotel. The food was vile, often clay cold and if you were lucky still raw. The food gave two of us food poisoning. The food was repetitive and variations of the same food we served every night and the smell of fish upon reaching the ground floor is offputting. By the pool there is often no loungers as people reserve them by 8am and in the entire 12 days we were there the ‘no reserving sunloungers’ rule didn’t seem to be enforced. The lifeguard is disinterested and spends most of the day with his face in his phone or going for a smoke just outside the hotel. He seemed to enforce different rules and sat in his chair wagging his finger and blowing his whistle. Overall a disappointing holiday that we waited for over a year. Would not stay here or travel to Bulgaria based on our experience. Also, not to do with the hotel but beware if you are going to travel on the public buses as many people we spoke to and ourselves had personal items such as purses, money, bank cards and passports stolen out of bags and from pockets. It only takes a matter of seconds to be a victim of pickpocketing.

Just got back from the Lion hotel; all I can say is its awful.. Arrived room not clean, had to ask for it to be cleaned again. Looking quite shabby, tiles missing around pool, chairs ripped.. Room storage a problem only 1 wardrobe for 3 people no draws for smalls, bathroom not the best lots of stains in bath.. Dining good luck with getting a table, but food not the best either, no child options. 8am get up for sunbed or don't get one, around 140 loungers for over 200 guests, 2 small pools, one is sooooo cold. umbrellas most are broke! I will never go Bulgaria again it was that bad..

1st time taking my children abroad and we did 2 weeks at The Lion hotel. The hotel is very clean and we was provided clean towels daily. With the food, as long as your not too fussy, you can make a meal on the evening. My son however struggled here so nightly we had to find him something out. It is very cheap to find snacks here. The only thing to put me off was the overwhelming smell off fish each night as you reached the restaurant doors. We was a party of 6 in the main August weeks and other than one morning we waited for a table it was never really a problem and we could all sit together. The juice was made from powder and the wine and beer made me twitch so was unable to drink it. Majority of the other guests did so it must just be mine and my friends my palate. The air con doesn't seem to be ever on in the restaurant. One night the electric went so the lights didn't work and neither did drinks. This was on the restaurant side of the hotel and all the guests that side was left without power till the early hours. At dinner time i thought it bad that no water was provided, but the next day the cleaner left us a little bottle of wine and waters for the children in each room. The pools are nice sizes. Not enough sun beds by half. You are advised that you are not allowed to reserve sunbeds on check in. The first week we was here it was enforced by the staff which was refreshing to see. By the second week this was not the case. People were reserving as many as four beds and they would still not of had anyone on by 3 o'clock. A few of the guests would remove the towels if it had been more than a few hours which resulted in seeing a few arguments at the pool which isnt nice for any of the kids to see. We was a nice distance from the beach... only a 10min walk if that. Overall if i could a cheap enough deal i would stop here again. With the food and drink situation i may look to go self catering. Either way i would deffo recommend Bulgaria as its lovely and clean

This will be my third year staying at the Lion Hotel, after having such good experiences on both occasions. Again ,I got the room I requested, a modern comfortable room with everything you require. I arrived in the early hours of the morning, check in was friendly and efficient and I was presented with a sandwich and water as I missed the evening meal - then I was escorted to my room. I do have a few negatives to point out on this visit. The wi-fi barely worked all week in my room as well as the reception area, I was unable to stream any video. Previous years I was able to stream videos with no problem at all at any hour of the day. I think the hotel needs to invest in more broadband connections as I found this a massive negative and one of the reasons I selected this hotel. The food was still good with plenty of choice but very repetetive. I found the queuing every evening a real drag. People were queuing way before service at 6pm, and if you want additional items from the hot buffet afterwards, it was another 10 minutes back at the queue. I didn't queue like this on previous years, maybe the hotel was full!? The breakfast toaster is still an issue. It's been replaced with an even slower toaster. So again each morning it was a good 10 minutes to queue for toast. This was met with regular complaints from people having to wait to use it each morning, Please invest in some pop up toasters which is so much faster and would prevent any queuing issues. Lastly, the water pressure is so fierce it goes everywhere and fills the bath quickly as well as the floor when having a shower. It's like a pressure washer and must surely be wasting a lot of water and it's dangerously hot. And what happened to the mini gym? Despite these niggles it's still a very good value modern hotel minutes from the beach, shops, restaurants, bus stop etc and I will still continue to come every year, I love Sunny beach and The Lion.. Just hope the improvements have been made by next year.
