Rooms: We stayed on 4th floor ( 411/413) rooms large ( dated) but clean with double size shower ...power shower excellent no problem with pressure or heat. Maid changed sheets / towels/ bins and general clean everyday. Safe box in wardrobe .
Pool: Didnt stay around pool during the day as it was quite cramped for us , but there was sunloungers to use if we had wanted too . We walked to beach as only 5mins. Hired sunbed & umbrella 10lev each .
Hotel Bar : Served local drinks ( large measures) could pay for imported. Bar closed at 10pm . Also a coffee machine on bar to help yourself.
Entertainment : Man and lady band ,where quite good a mixture of different songs . A couple of nights there was a Bulgarian night and another night a couple of dancers that were getting the people up to dance ( Advertisement of Entertainment would of been a good idea to let guests know of events )
Food:
Breakfast had a good selection ....but mushrooms / bakedbeans & tomatoes were always cold which was a shame . A lovely smiling lady ( blond hair) served the eggs & pancakes ( most of the rest of the staff quite grumpy but its the end of season so i put it down to that . Evening meal very repetitive mainly chicken & chips / vegan spaghetti bolognese. One night had a lovely pork stew with potatoes thou .
Location of hotel: Hotel is in a great location 5mins walk to beach , little shop ( supermarket) right next to hotel lovely lady that served in there. Souvenir shops around & bars . The main street ( FLOWER STREET) that has all the entertainment, party time , shops & bars is only a 10 min walk .
Overall : A clean hotel that is dated , in a great location and i would stay at this hotel again for the price i payed
The season started 1st of June and by the 2nd of June it was a completely different hotel. The air con come on and there was a huge difference in the food. It was edible, but if your a fussy eater more than likely wouldn’t eat here.
All inclusive drinks standard.
The bar manager must of had bipolar, because he was telling us of for laughing and talking to the the other bar staff, then he would randomly come give us a fist pump, then tell us to stop been cheeky all within half hour.
The rooms were cleaned daily to a reasonable standard having clean towels everyday, the cleaners where also happy and had good hospitality.
The shower was extremely powerful, you ladies will have a good time in the shower 🤣
Pool area small, but there was plenty of spare beds.
Only reason I’m giving a 2 is because of the first 3 days of our holiday we had 0 air con and the food was ridiculous. You don’t want to go to this hotel out of season, it’s a lot better when it’s in season.
Rooms were very big and a very good size, with tv ,fridge and wardrobes with loads of room in. Good shower in the bathroom and a balcony. The hotel had 2 bars in use when there there was the pool bar which seemed the most popular with beers, spirits , wines and cocktails available and all included in the all inclusive package. You could also pay for imported brands of alcohol. There was also a cocktail bar at the front of the hotel which was nice too.
The Restaurant is an all inclusive buffet and there are a lot of hot and cold options available. Obviously they change the meals but as is the same at any all inclusive hotel food it will get a bit repetitive. Every day there is a snack bar with ice cream, biscuits and doughnuts available .
The area was great as there are 2 supermarkets outside the front gates within 30 seconds and so many restaurants and bars nearby, although there are lods of places to eat and drink nearby this still isn’t the party area of Sunny Beach as that is a bout 10 minutes walk away from the hotel
In whole this was a great hotel and we will be looking to book again for next year. Would recommend for families and couples looking to enjoy the sun and bars but not be partying to all hours of the morning.
The hotel is extremely dark and dated and in much need of a renovation. The carpets in the hallway and room all look stained or just very dirty. In the room we found blood on the bed sheets, the bathroom door was water damaged and swollen at the bottom so would rub on the floor when opening and closing with bits coming off of it. The bed sheets didn't actually fit the bed properly and I often woke up with the sheets half off the bed and sleeping on bare mattress as they wasnt very comfy so I did toss and turn a bit to try get comfy (which I would imagine if happens to others aswell which I'm sure it does isn't very hygenic)
There were thunderstorms one night and the heavy rain ended up flooding the balcony and end up coming into the room and soaking the carpet. I am not sure how hotels would usually prevent this but I would imagine most balconies should have some sort of drainage.
The breakfast was fine, but there was no variety day to day, always the same. Lunch and dinner was a massive let down, I tried a few things on various occasions but something as simple as beef in peppercorn sauce tasted like dog food and was basically inedible along with pretty much everything I had on my plate. We ended up only ever getting breakfast and a small plate of chips for lunch and ate out every evening as it just was not good at all.
The bar staff were always friendly and severed us quickly but the selection of drinks was very limited. Wine was bad, cocktails was only ever Cuba libra or either blue lagoon or mena palace own cocktail to choose from. Very limited spirits ie gin, vodka, rum and Bulgarian own drink with mixer and your basic soft drinks like coke, coke zero, sprite and fanta.
On the plus side after listing quite a few bad points above, there was always sunbeds around the pool so didn't have to rush up to claim your bed. Would get breakfast and wander to the beds at 10am and always got 2 beds and an umbrella in peak sun position. (This is early September so may be quieter time) The outside of the hotel around the bar area was actually quite pretty compared to the inside of the hotel.
The hotel was in a good location with plenty of shops bars and restaurants in either direction you walked.
My parents have just flown out this morning to sunny beach to a different hotel within 5 minutes of this one and the 4* standard is so high in comparison. I would say this hotel was more of a 3* but my rating is 2 because of the many issues we found with cleanliness, food and dated decor.
Sunny beach itself was lovely with lots of shops, restaurants and beautiful sandy beaches. We didn't go on any trips and just has a nice relaxing holiday. I would return to sunny beach but just not to this hotel unfortunately
The rooms are large and the maids came in every day and left clean towels.
The pool area was very clean and I saw them cleaning every morning.
We were all inclusive and I would say the food is adequate, we went with the intention of eating out every night as it's cheap in the restaurants.
The bar was open until 10pm for all inclusive drinks which were all local and adequate.
They had entertainment most nights in the form of singers which was nice touch. There wasn't much going on in the day.
This hotel is an excellent choice if you want to be near the centre but not in the middle of the action and would definitely return if got the same deal we got this year.
The hotel offers free WiFi but it is so slow that to send a simple text email you have to disable it and use mobile data. Technically there is WiFi but in reality it is unusable.
The pool is ok and kept well enough but is nowhere near big enough for this size of hotel. You'll need to be up very early for a sunbed.
All inclusive gives pretty standard hotel offerings, it can be repetitive but it's edible and a good range on offer. What I don't understand is closing everything down at 10pm, who ends their day that early on holiday and outside of mealtimes offerings are very limited and for short periods only.
Some reviewers have complained about the staff but I have found them friendly and helpful.
In summary, relatively little effort is needed to improve opening times, WiFi quality, water pressure and a few other niggles. Not sorting those things out gives the impression that no one really cares which is a great shame as with the exception of the pool area all problems could be easily improved.
Lovely hotel.
The food was good and reasonable, but a little salt and pepper could have been used in it.
There was absolutely no shortage of drinks at the pool bar.
Pavli, Svetlana, Victoria, and Anna were always sweet, friendly, and smiling all the time.
If I made eye contact with them when I came walking out with my lunch or dinner, I always got an "enjoy your food" along the way.
All in all, the entire staff was incredibly sweet and friendly. They did everything to make you feel comfortable.
My friend and I checked in at 21:31 and we asked when dinner would end. It did at 21:30.
We put our suitcases in the room, got a few beers at the bar, and then went out in town for an hour or two, When we got back, the front desk told us that dinner had been set for us in our rooms.
What a service !
Likewise, when we had to check out around midnight, almost 11 hours ahead of normal, a large packed lunch was packed for each of us !.
The only thing that was a bit bad compared to other all-inclusive hotels was at 15:30–17:00 where there were snacks. There were cookies and ice cream every day, and only for 90 minutes. It can be done better.
I would return to Mena Palace at any time because it is a fantastic hotel with fantastic staff.
Thank you for making my holiday extra good.
