I strongly recommend to choose sea view rooms or apartments. Feels like you can step straight into the sea. Thumbs up for the crew and the administration team, they handled every situation quickly and professional. Good beach, good food, we had a great value for a honest price. Thank you Galina Nikova, the Manager, she knows better why! Vlad Stroe

This hotel was excellent in every way, all staff were friendly and helpfull. The room was comfortable, with a nice decor, what looked to be newish carpet and was cleaned on a daily basis. The food in the restaurant & at the pool bar was plentiful in selection and of a good quality. The kids club and entertainment was very good. I just don't understand why there were so few brits staying at the hotel? Maybe word hasn't got around yet? They are missing out !

My original hotel was not open so Balkan Holidays sent me here instead. I was quite happy, as I have stayed here before some years ago. The location is superb, right on the beach and enclosed by a nature reserve. On arrival in the early hours of the morning, I discovered that the Gergana now has barriers to stop traffic traveling there. The security man at the barrier sent for someone to collect me and I was waiting in the dark and cold for 15 minutes before someone arrived. I have been here before so know it’s safe, but if it was my first visit alone I would have been very scared. The room I was given was overlooking the nature part, and it was just so noisy (frogs mating season!), I asked for the manageress, Galina, who very kindly changed my room. The room was adequate, it was clean and had all I needed, with a double bed, sofa bed, bathroom with shower and a sea view. The wardrobe is single width hanging space and shelving on the other half. There is one small drawer in the dressing table and 2 open shelf bedside tables, no other drawers. I just about managed, but it wouldn’t not enough clothes/shoes/toiletry storage for 2 or more. One member of the bar staff in the reception area need a refresher course on customer service, he ignored me several times to serve other nationalities. I even said ‘excuse me’ a couple of times and I was totally ignored. Fortunately the bar staff in the restaurant area were excellent. The cooked food was fairy basic and repetitive, but plenty of choice with fruit and salads. I was a bit surprised because last time I stayed the cooked food was excellent then, every evening had a carvery item, roast pork, lamb or whole salmon, but not now. The snack bar was also fairy basic too, biscuits, apples, waffles, pancakes and ice cream. I have stayed in lower star hotels in Albena where they had burgers, pizza, sausages, chips, etc. at the snack bar, and although I don’t snack, that’s what I expected here. I feel Gergana was much better last time I stayed, and the barrier is just a nuisance, as anyone who has limited mobility can’t use the mini train outside the hotel, and has to be taken to and from the barrier in Gergana’s golf buggy type vehicle, which even I found very high to step on and off. I found there is also another upmarket part to this hotel, which I looked at. The rooms are super, but sadly, not available to Balkan customers, even as an upgrade. There were only around 4-5 hotels open in the whole resort for my 2 weeks, and virtually no shops open, except the hotel shop and the bazzar in the centre of the resort. The book library was open but unmanned. The daytime activities are not very inspring and evening entertainment is not brilliant, bingo, quiz, karaoke, and games like cards, darts, jenga. Even so, it did get quite noisy in both bars as the evening went on, but it stops around 10.30pm. I found the official opening date for the resort is 1st June, and I like it very quiet, but if you're looking for something going on, don't go to Albena in May. I noticed looking through the comments on Trip Advisor that the management dismiss any negative comments as untrue. They are meant to be constructive criticism on how to make your hotel better. Don’t ignore them, take them on board and act on them.
