Spent two relaxing weeks at the Elitsa hotel with views over the Black Sea. The buffet style meals catered mostly for the Eastern European clientelle with plenty dishes to choose from. The rooms were fresh and very clean with adequate storage space. Hotel personnel were very pleasant and helpful. Being on the beach, we didn't use the pool but it looked spotless. In the two weeks we didn't meet another British family in the hotel so we felt quite isolated because of the language barrier (mostly Bulgarian/Romanian/Russian and German) However we had a wondeful holiday in Albena and are returning this year to the same hotel.

Good things about this hotel: located just on the nice sandy beach, hotel guests get sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach for free, nice swimming pool (with some entertainment for kids), food is quite a good quality and well stocked (including the snack bar which works until late afternoon).

Not so good: the hotel rooms are really old (furniture, bathroom) and very small; the dining area is old and smelly; wi-fi access per room supports only one device at a time.

Overall makes sense to go if you get it for a budget price and you are not sensitive to the above mentioned disadvantages; otherwise, best to avoid a disappointment and choose a different place.

The only good thing is the nature around it. Is nothing ok about the services or the food..or the personnel. I've paid for a fridge and I had to clean it with medicinal alcohol and then fix it with cotton wool in order to chill a little. Found an earwig in the bed of my child... and some other kind of bugs. The personnel doesn't understand English. They enter the room to clean (actually to change the towels or throw the garbage... because they doesn't clean the downfloor at all) only if you put the specific paper on the doorknob. Regarding the restaurant and the food... you have to wait in a huge queue for reaching just 5 kind of cooked meals (rice and patatoes being 2 of those)...waiting 5-10 minutes in front of an empty tray... maybe you finally get something. You cannot really use the salt... as it is wet (they doesn't want to put rice inside, not to be wet anymore)...There are more bad things to say... but I will finish by telling you a little story... In the last day we've got a huge storm and even that it was morning, in the restaurant it was so, so dark that you bearly could see your food on the plate. I've asked the personnel to turn the light on inside the restaurant. They've looked at me as I was an alien and I've got an rude, insolent reply from them..."We are saving the light, chief!" ... They've finally turned the light on only after I've said..."yes, but we all do pay huge tarrifs for the cheap services you are providing!"...

I was this month few days ago in Elitsa and i am very disapointed from this hotel!! Me and my boyfriend got very bad virus and flu with terrible simptoms i was there just 4 nights and when i told the manager and the stuff they told us that this is normal and everybody has that also the kids so i was very scared...We spend 30 euro for pills and they didn't say even Sorry for that only bad attitude!!! Also we bouth internet card for 6 euro -2 hours only but this card didn't work at all in this hotel so we had to go with the laptop to another `hotel and we were able to use it just for 20 min when we asked for our money back at least for that card the Manager sad that she can not give us back once we opened!!!! Very bad policy with the customers and no respect at all, they ask only for money and nothing else so think about if you want to go and stay sick in your room 2 days and when you ask for your rights there will be nobady to help you!! I am Bulgarian but this is not the way to treat the people when they pay a lot for the service!!! Also the hotel is old and not very clean doesn't look like the pictures on-lain !!! I am saying the truth so the other people now what to expect!!!!

The place is in a great location, but all the facilities are very old. The food is not good neither fresh, indeed I had an intoxication, the beer and coffee is just non-drinkable water. The room was clean when we arrived, but it's not cleaned any more during your accommodation, in my case I was 5 nights, so...
The wi-fi is not reachable from the room.
Definitely it does not deserve the money paid.

The hotel is one of the oldest in the resort. Upon first arrival, at the front desk a nice lady explains to you that "the hotel is old and we are doing what we can", which I don't think is the right mood setter. Then you get to your room. The rooms are well- furnished, the air conditioning works well. If you arrive earlier than you are supposed to, they don't give you your all inclusive bracelet, but rather you have to wait until 3p.m. to receive it. The only place you can go after is the snack bar, and it is in worst possible condition. The snacks are cold and old pieces of pizza, cold fries, old cookies, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers and ice cream.
The good thing about the hotel is the location - it is located on the sea shore. However, after one swim in the pool, I got really sick and had to be hospitalized due to some kind of virus/fungi infection. My boyfriend did not swim in the pool and did not have any problems, but I've heard other people complain about the same thing, so I suppose they do not clean the pool as they should.
The restaurant is in terrible condition. I have noticed that if you have, for example, maccaroni in the morning and they are not consumed, at lunch you have maccaroni salad with tomato paste. Same goes for the fish. There is also this horrible smell in the restaurant, which kills your appetite the second you enter - most of the time we ate outside. The food is average, tasteless, but they have really good croissants.
The staff is too friendly with the customers, often interacting with them. It is good if you are communicative, but bad if you just want you room cleaned. One of the cleaning ladies talked to us about her dead dog for like a half an hour. There are also people from the staff who are sometimes mean and rude.
They do accept dogs, but they make you pay a fee. It is a small fee - 10BGN per day. We did not have problems with that.
Last but not least - the rooms facing the sea and therefore the pool - if you stay there you will have to put up with the pools playlist, 5 songs from 2008, awfully booming from the old boosters.
I give this hotel a POOR grade, cause I've seen worse, but certainly I have seen a lot, lot better for the same amount of money. Not visiting again.

Response from Preslava I, Manager at Hotel Elitsa
Responded Sep 30, 2014
Dear Joanna R, Thank you for your feedback about Elitsa hotel. I regret to hear that you have met some inconveniences during your stay. Regarding your review, I would like to make several specifications. In connection with your statement about the swimming pool – 3 times a day the employee responsible for the pool makes measurements of water indicators, respectively all measurements are being recorded and stored. In addition to this, regular samples of the water in the swimming pool have been tested by the Regional Health Inspection during the time of exploitation. RHI has given us the assurance that the results are absolutely normal and within the standards. Regarding your opinion about food quality – this season the majority of the reviews about the hotel are positive in websites and social media. The restaurant aims to offer a reasonable and sufficient assortment on the buffet table, including 2 soups, varied salads and hot garnish, several kinds of meat, fish, a variety of fruits and desserts. Accordingly, the standards for proper storage of food are observed. The situation with the music at the swimming pool, as described in your feedback, is technically not possible to occur – the playlist cannot consist of 5 songs but if the music has been loud in your opinion, we will take this into consideration henceforward. If you have in mind additional remarks or recommendations you can contact me on the e-mail address stated below. Yours sincerely, Preslava Ivanova Product Manager Albena JSCo E-mail: preslava@albena.bg

I have been in Elitsa in August 2011 with my husband and with our friends who have 3 children.
In my oppinion the hotel is well situated, really close to the beach and walk distance from the shopping centre. The rooms where cleand every day, the cleaner was working hard. The sheets and towles changed regullary, but the toilet and bath wasn't cleand.Air conditioner was working fine.I am a fussy eater but I could find something to eat. They had good food variaties. At breakfast time a boy was making pancakes which I really enjoied! The good thing was they always replaced the food when something was going to finish.Lots of fruit, salads, cheese, diffrent tipes of breads.
Howewer I didn't liked the food from the snack bar, especially the pizza didn't look really 'tasty'.
The pool was good sized, but the poolaman really mean he was shouting with people. The barman from the pool bar was rude too, once he nearly pour hot coffe on me..when I was triing to make my best from the coffe machine, because teh coffe is not so good...
In conclusion, I might will return to the hotel.

Me and my wife spent 12 days in July this year in Albena in hotel Elitsa, which is situated on the beach, so we vent to sleep every night listening the sounds of the sea, it was very romantic.
The hotel itself was very clean, had a beautiful wiev from the balcony on the Black Sea, the stuff was polite and the food was simply excellent. The beach is long, was not to crowded, and the sea was warm.
Albena is a quiet, friendly, very relaxing place, noone harras you to buy something or to go to a certain restaurant, we could really enyoj our stay.
Since this was our fifth holiday in Bulgaria, it was no surprise for us. Every time was very nice there, so we like this country very much.
The Dolphinarium in Varna is well worth a visit.
We plan to return in the same hotel next year, thats for sure!

It is not a hotel for those with high expectations. It's a 3 stars hotel! The hotel it is on the beach,...very nice location, we had a room at 4 level(the ground floor it's first floor) with pool/sea wiew...the scenery/landscape was very beautiful(see photo). The furniture it's old but ok, the AC it's working, the TV it's a LED, clean rooms(they cleaned and change the towels every two days), the bathroom was ok but the tiles are old, was no fridge but you can rent one for 30 leva(aprox. 15 euro)/week. The staff is nice, very carefully, i like them. The food it's not so diversified, but was good.... with pork, chicken, fish, soups, fruits, etc. The snack it's with pizza, fries, pasta, icecream, fruits, (no limits) etc..The beer and the alcoholic beverages it's not so good, but you don't die if you drink :))and there it's no limit for quantities. The bars are on the pool(11-18), on the beach(10-20?), the lobby bar(10-23). The beach it s good, at 5 m from hotel, people from Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, some russian people on it,..the see was clean. In conclusion, it's a 3 star hotel with 3 stars services, but i was satisfied. Last year i was on The Gergana Hotel 4*, but it was a 4* hotel with 4* services....If you want something else, go to 4* or 5*. Enjoy your holiday!

There are actually plenty of places for cars They are not for this hotel or any other one There are just along the road For example, we had 3 or 4 cars , i can.t remember , and we had where to park them no problem
