The hotel is not new, but very cozy. The rooms are cleaned every day and cleaned well, but the bed was never changed in a week, perhaps it could have been changed upon request, but we did not ask. The air conditioner and refrigerator work fine, the furniture is strong, of course, because everything is made of solid wood. There are only two towels, but they’ll give you more if you ask, but you’ll have to ask every day))) the only thing I didn’t like about the room was the disgusting soundproofing of the doors; when the locals had a party over the weekend, we were freaking out until almost one in the morning. We only took breakfast and it was absolutely normal, I liked everything I ate; if you asked the chef to cook porridge, there was none in the hall. The fruits are monotonous, but tasty, the juices too, the tea is excellent, but the coffee is nothing, however, as far as I know, this is the case with coffee on the whole island. The hotel area is small, the lawn is mowed regularly, herons walk on the lawn in the morning, and there are also monitor lizards, squirrels and a few seals on the territory. The pool is clean, the water is good, not warm. Yes, the beach towels are not new, but clean. Beach with a small cliff to the ocean. The ocean water was just great! Someone complained about the waves, but for me they weren’t too big and didn’t interfere with my swimming. A tuktuk from the hotel will take you to Kalutara for 100 rupees, where you can buy everything you need in stores or shops, fruits, alcohol, seafood, which will be prepared for you inexpensively in any cafe. In general, the village is not for active young people, since there is nothing in it, you need to go for any entertainment, which leads to the second disadvantage - it is expensive. In Hikkaduwa, for example, food in cafes is almost half the price and there are many more cafes there, including those with ocean views. Oh, yes, I almost forgot, even if you don’t smoke, take cigarettes with you at least for gifts. They are very expensive on the island and, believe me, this is a great way to win over the locals, who, however, are already very loyal.

When we initially arrived we were not iverly impressed with the hotel. Room spacious, clean, dated, bedding ok but room basic. The hotel was quiet and there was a few local people visiting for along weekend.
The pool is nice, clean and you have a good view of the beach and sea, the crashing of the waves is lovely at night . We ventured.on the beach a few time's but unable to go in the sea as it was quite rough and unsafe- red flags.
Staff- Michael is the new manager and he is trying very hard to turn the hotel around. Dickie is amazing and whe will do everything he can to please. The house keeping staff are hard working and our room was always left lovely and inviting. Bedding crisp and clean and beach towels were changed daily. Food was ok and we always found it satisfying. We wanted traditional Sri Lankan food and the chef provided a wonderful meal for our anniversary. The gardener provided us with king coconuts to drink which was amazing. Local supermarket Kerls 10 min walk and tuk tuk cost 300RS.
No entertainment in the evening, which didn't phase us but it would have been nice to experience so traditional entertainment. Tv don't bother 3 channels, so bring some good books!
Drinks limited but after 5 days new supplies were delivered.
We used the Tuk tuk from outside tge hotel, agree the price first. We visited a variety of places, Richmond Castle, various temples, tea plantation, Udawalawa safari Gallery, Kandy ( 2 days) travelled on a train. The country is truly beautiful but very poor. Please do tip as the people really do need it. We tipped between 300rs = 75p £ - 1000rs = £2.50.
Tui reps were good and visited daily and they had good local knowledge as well as dealing with queries or questions.
A relaxing and peaceful holiday

Do not fall into trap through travel agent and book this hotel. Its location is minimum 50 km from any tourist spot of Bentota . To reach you travel through very unsafe 2 km stretch with no lights across and along a railway track . It’s a very dilipated quality of Hotel. Not even 1 star. The toilets are filthy… door handles have fungus … no beach … just a ten meter stretch on which cows walk and do potty … To tip it all the staff at reception is terrible … Since you are captive audience hence you cannot even go out for dinner and you have to pay 5500 per person for a terrible stale reheated food menu per person . In ala carte they do not serve … after lot of pressure made rice…
No intercom facility No toiletries except for soap No clean towels Dirty toilet seats
Even if you have terrible enemies do not send them here even for a day.
When you go book yourself in Galle area for Hotel in Bentota. Do not fall in trap of your travel Agent .. ours was View Holiday … they said it’s a 4 star. Do not go here .

Its not 4*, it's a poor 3*. Our room was dirty-smelly curtains, stains on the walls, stains on the linen, dirty mirrors and glass door, dirty baseboards, dust and webs on lamps, sticky surface of furniture (the paint/lacquers fault) , limescale on the bathroom floor, disgusting bin in the bathroom, uncleaned surfaces under the sink and in the shower. Linen changed only once a week. Only bath towels available, nothing more. Food: we only had breakfasts. There were 4 types of curry which was very tasty. But basic things for europeans like cheese were missing, also the staff in the Restaurant was poor. Basics like scrambled eggs were out quickly but the staff was just standing there doing nothing instead of bringing more eggs etc. There was no water for self service, waiters were supposed to pour it but most of the times they were chatting with each other instead of doing their jobs. The coffe/tea area was dirty. The coffee was bad. The pool area looks very nice, there are a lot of palmtrees, but sunbeds were incredibly old and most of them was broken. The beach was very nice but local people camping there all day long were discouraging. The were obtrusing, brazen. They kept offering some trips, clothes, they kept standing there leaning on the fence and STARING on the people on the sunbeds. It was totally creepy. Sometimes a man with a monkey on a leash and a snake in a sack was coming there too. Hotel security was doing nothing about it. Also one of the security staff kept a bottle of alcohol under his chair so... Most of the stuff was nice and helpful like house keeping guys and Ragu from the reception. There are people in the hotel trying to make it better after pandemic but it will take time. It should start with a deep cleaning of the rooms and restaurant. Also the reception looks very poor and creates a bad first impression (dirty wall, sticky counter, no decorations, some old and ugly chair). The hotel has a great potential but it needs a lot of work to become a good 4* hotel.

The staff were all very nice. However, the people at reception often didn't know what they were doing. You often had to ask for things that were actually obvious. The food was sometimes good, sometimes not so good, the waiters and the people at the bar were very good and very friendly! Ask for Akila and Bashi, they were the friendliest in our opinion. We had to say every day that our bed needed to be changed because it always had stains, which they always did straight away. The trips that you can take with the travel agency were very poor. We were promised a lot and less than half of it was kept + it was extremely expensive!!

6 of us booked to stay at this hotel for two weeks with Tui, on arrival we were disappointed with the place but decided to give it the benefit and see how things went. The rooms were basic but clean, the food was just about ok but the real problems started with the all inclusive drinks package, on the first night they had no tonic water, second night no coke, then no sprite and then only two bottles of beer, the place was a joke, the only positive thing was Steven the bar man who seemed the only person in the hotel who had any idea what was going on. We contacted the hotel manager who informed us they were having issues with delivery of drinks and to bear with us. We contacted the Tui representative Milan who attempted to fob us off and said he would sort the drinks problem, we had noticed the advertised pool bar was actually a sleeping area for the security guard and had not reopened following COVID, the same with the other advertised facilities, the sun beds were either damaged or split and the place was very run down, eventually the Tui representative agreed to move us to another hotel an hour away, Milan from Tui asked us not to tell anyone else we were getting the move how dishonest and despicable is this for customer care and service. We moved to another hotel that was much better but we will never book another holiday with Tui they knew the state of the Co Co beach and are still sending people there.

My husband and I have just returned to the UK from a wonderful 3 weeks holiday at the Coco Royal Beach Hotel in Kalutura, Sri Lanka. We were in room 211 from the 19th February till the 11th March 2024. When we arrived at the hotel 6.30am in the morning, the Manager Mr Randun was waiting to welcome us such a nice man. During our stay he was always asking if all was ok and if there was anything he could do for us. He was waiting to say goodbye and wish us a safe journey home when we were leaving too. Ragu the receptionist checked us in, such a lovely young man always had a beaming smile and so helpful throughout our stay. So was his supervisor Bradley. We were shown to our room by the House keeping Manager Kosala yet another polite and helpful young man always asking if there was anything he could do for us. Our room was large with a balcony overlooking the beach and sea. All his staff who cleaned our room did an excellent job. We went to the pool where we met more helpful people the pool attendants Nuwan, Manoj and Chandika who couldn't do enough for us and everyone else. At dinner and breakfast the restaurant managers Akila and Suchira and their staff was so good. Nothing was any trouble to them all they wanted to do was make us happy and enjoy our meals. The Barman who rounded off our evenings with the best cocktails ever and the best Aarack cocktail was Kanishka. All the staff at this hotel are absolutely amazing, very hardworking and wonderful people who always greeted you with a smile and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel has recently been taken over about a week before we arrived and will be renamed shortly. Already upgrades are taking place so any shortfalls will be improved. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Thank you to all the staff at Coco Royal Beach Hotel for making our stay in Sri Lanka one we will not forget.

After Corona Lock down for nearly 3 months we all wanted have a good break. So we checked with Coco Royal & made d reservations & reached Coco Royal on 18th afternoon. We received a very warm welcome from security officer at the gate & proceeded to the lobby, there Ms .Ayeshani & Mr. Nishantha- GM, again welcome our group by following all Corona health guidelines in a pleasant & friendly manner . we were given ground floor rooms upon our request & all rooms were very spacious, comfortable & convenience to our family gathering.Swimming pool & beach also very close to our rooms & we enjoyed the evening sunset at the nice beach with some games & kids with kites/sea waves. Also the pool is very nice & clean, which attracted our kids to spent lengthy hours on both days Not forgetting the pool attendant who did a great job by keeping eye on our kids for more than 3-4 hours at a stretch. Good job & appreciate. About meals, all three meals were in buffet style with so much spread & so delicious , even the guest count was just over 40, Mr. Nishantha - GM was in his best to serve the maximum to guests interest.also he was so friendly/flexible in all areas by arranging reception to rooms & also from kitchen to restaurant. So finally what we have to say the Coco Royal is a very nice, clean & highly recommended hotel to rest/relax with family/group/company buddies with no doubt the hotel & hotel staff will deliver the real hospitality beyond your expectations & really worth for your money.
