We stayed in a cabana which was very clean and there was clean bed linen and towels daily. The food in the restaurant continued to impress with an excellent selection of curries or pasta and European style dishes if that was your preference.
The gardens and pool areas continue to be maintained to a high standard and the pool team are always happy to help with anything. The animation team also helped to provide some excellent activities both day and night. Don’t forget to visit the spa which was excellent value for money and the therapists work to extremely high standards. My favourite is the facial massage which for 1500 rupees is an absolute bargain and really makes a difference to your skin. They gym well equipped to keep you going whilst on your holidays my only disappointment this time was there was no yoga, the staff member who took the classes has left and another member of the team is currently being trained.
There are a number of beach stalls selling t shirts, scarves, dresses etc. Both have extremely reasonable prices I managed to get beautifully coloured silk scarves for 600 rupees each an absolute bargain. My good friend Dayani also sold me a beautiful maxi dress with a floral print ideal for the summer and she also gets lovely elephant embroidered table cloths of all sizes for an excellent price if you ask. Another of my friends Indy is also worth considering if you want to go on any excursions cheaper than the travel reps.
Now we come to the negative point the dogs and cats. I must say things have improved a lot compared to my last visits when the behaviour of some of the staff towards the animals was appalling. Every dog I saw last time plus a few more were still at the hotel which amazed me as I have seen some terrible sights in my past visits to Sri Lanka and you wonder how they survive. The comment left about the potential of someone getting bitten made me chuckle, I know you can never say never but these animals are so friendly considering how hard their life is its unbelievable so please do not let that put you off. As for the cats scratching if you put your hands towards them they swipe at you thinking you have food for them so the potential of getting a scratch is high (its not like a cat at home who gets fed every day!!!!!!!!!!)
While we were at the hotel one of the females gave birth to a pup which is nearly 3 weeks old now. She was living under a sun lounger so I am asking new visitors to please make sure she gets some food and water and perhaps you could send me a private message to update her progress and any puppy pictures would be really appreciated. If you are an animal lover like me please feed and water the animals and they really love a bit of fuss and attention.
Overall is very good, the staff are excellent and a lick of paint in the rooms wouldn’t go amiss. It a lovely hotel and an amazing country which I have fallen in love with. Hope to see you all next year.
The hotel is actually a club hotel which caters mainly for tourists with AI packages. Be aware that there are not many facilities such as restaurants, shops etc. around the hotel. If you want to have some more local atmosphere, you are required to take a tuk-tuk, bus or train.
Food was fantastic!!! We had breakfast (which was included) and dinner (which is 2300 per person for the buffet but we didnt have much choice as there is not much around) at the hotel and we liked that there were local and international options - which were all extremely good. The chef is doing a great job and he certainly understands a lot about local and international cuisine. I usually don't eat European food in coutries outside Europe because its mostly a rather disappointing experience but here I have to say that the Ratatuille was really good with a very authentic taste. Needless to say that the Srilankan food was just fantastic.
The hotel area is just huge! Unfortunately, some of the bungalows are a bit run down, as are the toilet facilities. It's a pity the owners are not taking better care of it. The new wing looked nice and new though.
WiFi only works in the lobby and does not work in the rooms (as stated on the website), which was a bit annoying.
Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They speak so many languages, especially Russian and German, which is amazing.

The hotel room was clean and comfortable...our airconditioning was left on all day which made it a pleasant retreatfrom the heat outside!
There was a lack of parasols but the shade of a tree was sufficient..the pool attendants were more than helpful preparing our sun loungers wth double mattresses and ample towels. The security guards always stood up ans saluted when approached!
Overall the hotel was clean and comfortable but could do with a lick of paint and maybe new sunbeds and chairs etc....lack of tourism recentley has had an affect.
Would book again out of season as all guests got to know each other as well as all the staff....a very personal time had by all!
Spacious rooms with great facilities
Staff were really active and friendly.
Surrounding grounds lovely with the pool and beach front
Restaurant food was delicious
Piece of advice to all, please don't be gullible and trust the employees at this hotel despite however much they seem honest, because they are lying to your face after your money! My concern is if someone had No where else to go... they would have paid the £200 difference. And they would have taken anyone they can for a ride!
Don't give them your money. Please be careful and stay somewhere else. Mount Lavinia or Tangerine is great. They don't try to steal your hard earned savings!
In general we are very satisfied with our smooth and sunny stay with Villa Ocean View Hotel and wish to be back next time! Can recommend this hotel to those families and individuals who are seeking for sunny, quiet and deep-in-nature vacations.
The staff were rude as can be. One of them told a friend of mine that this toilet is for foreigners only and that locals cannot use it. He was racially abused in his own country. Please avoid. There are hundreds of better hotels in that area.
It has to have been the most relaxing holiday ever. The journey from the Airport was an adventure in its self, that said we were behind the bus carrying the team that Didnt Win!so it took longer than the normal transfer time, traffic and people in abundance...it was great to see.
When we arrived at the Hotel the greeting was so warm and genuine it made you feel like you were wanted. The Villa Ocean View Hotel is everything it says.. forget about upgrading as the brochures say to the Hotel side stay in a Cabana. Before we went we asked for adjoining rooms as we didnt want to be too far away from our daughter, OMG when they showed us to our Cabana's we could not have asked for anything better ! it was just as it said Ocean View, and what a view we had (room no's 66/68) .right on the beach front. The hotel was fantastic. As we had never been all inclusive before we didnt know what to expect (you hear a lot of stories of how the food is recycled shall we say) not in this hotel. everybodys needs were met ( make sure you try the Sri Lankan omelette for breakfast) delicious! the staff were fantastic from the people that sweep the grounds to the manager himself we could not fault them and the guy who every day made our day, that was our room (boy) Dilum. the rooms were cleaned, beds and towels changed daily and he arranged fresh flowers each day oh and sprayed each night so no problems with any bugs although we did see an Elephant walking in the grounds her name was Monica. as you can tell this was a place we will talk about for a long time as we havent even started on the trip to Kandy or the jewellry we had made...
The brochures dont advertise this hotel as much as they should the Hotel should be listed higher than it is. Food, service, cleanliness and entertainment all given with a gracious heart and a smile for all.We could go on for a long time...thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope this helps anyone thinking of staying in this Hotel. From the Hart Family Liverpool
Stay at your own cost.
In the end they'll force you for more money.
Staff are not highly trained. They have no idea how to interact with customers. Worst hotel in Sri Lanka.
You can't even leave your room without your money going missing.
Staff just pretend that You misplaced it they are taking your money. I've read many reviews on here. Over 20 customers s as y the same story.
Very bad.
