Rooms reasonably clean. Lobby was dirty. Would not have chosen this place but it was the closest to where my grandson lived that had a vacancy. Bar noisy. Older not updated hotel. For $140, barely, maybe?, worth the value.

The hotel might only be a 3, albeit a high three, but the friendly service raises it a notch. The room was very clean with fairly new (and clean) carpet in the room and hallways. The bathroom was nice--no problems. We are big on morning coffee and there was no coffee maker, but a trip to the attached restaurant got our coffee mugs filled free of charge. No hair dryer in the room, but they provide them at the front desk. The beds were a bit on the hard side, but they passed the bed bug inspection.

This is a cinderblock building and it appears there has been some recent renovations, to include texturing the walls. The texture didn't work well on the outer block wall. Nothing really wrong, just doesn't look very good. Also, the lounge is not smoke free and the cigarette smell will filter into the hallway in the area closest to the bar. Not a problem for us, but a smoke sensitive person might want to get a room at the other end of the building.

We were on a fishing trip to nearby Stump Lake. The catch was pretty meager, but the manager on duty went out of his way to make sure the cleaning shed was open and ready for us to take care of the ones we did have.

We had two breakfasts and a dinner in the attached restuarant. Clean rooms, good food and friendly service--we liked it.

I know this will sound funny, but my bed was among the most comfortable of any hotel I've stayed at. The rooms have been nicely refurbished and although modest, they far exceeded my expectations. The food was good and certainly reasonably priced. I loved the breakfast especially the homemade carmel rolls. The staff was friendly which is always a plus. All and all certainly worth the price.

If I could get a 0 star, I would. This place smells of mildew & mold, the front desk worker looked strung out on some sort of drugs, the bartenders don't seem to know how to make the simplest cocktails and about the only good upside was the decent food.
The second I walked into the building I got nauseous, but I thought I might have been a funky food smell so I decided to stay a bit. I asked the front desk lady and she didn't seem to know how much a room was! She was obviously on something, and I don't seem to understand why she is employed there if she wasn't trained in right! I just decided to try to book a room online somewhere else, but I went to get something eat before I left.
The "Bar Manager" (as he called himself) didn't seem very helpful since he was outside smoking pretty much the whole time I was there, so I go help from the other bartender. The food was decent, but honestly I feel bad for the cooks, they should use their talents elsewhere! I wanted to talk to the manager, but someone in the bar told me the manager just hired whoever and wasn't here enough to care, so I shouldn't really bother. I left shortly after being told that. Please don't waste your time and just go a bit further to a hotel in devils lake that at least has a pool, that is preferable not from the roof!

I get that help is hard to find. And I get that off-brand motels that run half-full or less have skinny profit margins. But it's not acceptable to smell mildew when you enter the room (and all the way down the hall to the room). It's not OK to find a used towel hanging on the shower rod, and a used bathmat disheveled over the bathtub rim, and a used bar of soap in the shower stall itself. We chose not to shower on that night.
The remote entrance doors should be locked overnight (with key access), but they are not.
The upside of the place was a decent bar that served a decent burger and that was staffed by nice folks.

We were travelling checking hotels and found the Sun Lac Inn in Devil’s Lake. We read the positive Reviews and even had a Steak house in mind. We booked it online. When we arrived, I found I inadvertently booked the Inn in Lakota- a 35 minute ride. When we arrived, the parking lot was messy. The hotel looked run down. The entrance carpet was worn and ragged.
The desk clerk was slovenly and his living area was unkempt. He was not cheery. We had prepaid the room so…..
The bed was clean and comfortable. The room Itself wasn’t bad although the hallway and room were musty. There was an oversized toilet seat on toilet and the base of the toilet was leaking thus the bathroom carpet was soaked. The restaurant was closed so we found a pub around the corner. We did stay because it had been a long day and we were tired.
In the morning, tried to get coffees to go. The day clerk was having breakfast in the restaurant. The cook wandered into the kitchen and 10 minutes later, had not reappeared so we left. Would not stay here again.

At first glance this seemed to be a nice little place to stay, on site dining, flat screen tv,
pet friendly, and roomy too.
On to second glance: we could not close the window curtains completely as there was a missing slate, oh well a gal came and hepled us obtain as much privacy as possible with broken shade. Bulb in the bedside lamp was burned out. So tired, so went to bed and decided to grab a quick shower in the morning. When I tried to get my morning shower I pulled on the knob too start the water and it came off in my hand. No water! So, no shower, no time to report it . I figured they would find out about the none working shower when they cleaned room again. Payed $71.00 for the same kind of conditions I camp under for $20.00 a night.

Response from pickmetj, Owner at Sunlac Inn
Responded Mar 17, 2011
I am sorry to hear about your stay not being up to par and apologize for the staff not catching these details. The SunLac Inn has a full-time maintenance staff on hand and would have responded immediately if we would have known there was a problem, or at least transfered you to another room. Once again, I apologize and can be assured the problems were fixed the next day.

We stayed at this motel driving through North Dakota. Upon entering the Motel there was a very strong cat urine odor in the lobby and down the hall. Our room did not smell like it, thank God!! It is pretty run down but I've stayed in worse!!

I choose this hotel because it was close to my final destination. Location is right off the highway which made it very convenient. The hotel service was nice and I was impressed at the rooms themselves. My room was worth the money I spent. You are able to tell they are newly remodeled and were clean. New bedspreads that made me much more comfortable, the old school flower spreads just scare me! The room also has Flat screen TV's plus a fridge and microwave. Beds were great and my breakfast was good. I highly suggest the homemade caramel rolls....Amazing!
