I´ve slept in many places throughout my travels and Casa Tobo has been one of the best stays I´ve had. We were really lucky to find Casa Tobo!
I just love the place! The interior, decor, atmosphere - so relaxing, beautiful and nice! Our room was spacious, well decorated and really cozy place to stay.

Though the manager did not speak any English, they were very friendly and helpful. As it was the beginning of low season in the region, they did not have the full menu available in the restaurant, still after some language barriers I managed to order delicious dinner (even the soup that I actually did not order tasted good). They also treated us with some compliment during dinner - really sweet tasting traditional Romanian wine.

The only problem was that there was a little flooding in our bathroom, because the shower plughole was not working properly, but I think they will fix the problem soon.

Would have loved to stay more! Wonderful place.

It's refreshing to see European level quality in off the beaten track Romania. We spent 1 night at Pensiunea Tobo and were nicely surprised. the room we chose was clean, spacious, beautifully decorated, with all the necessary amenities. the building itself is nicely located close to the mountain, and some of the rooms have great mountain view. the food was really tasty (we had dinner and breakfast), and we highly recommend the traditional papanasi which were delicious. Pensiunea Tobo also has a terrace, kids playground, bike rentals. It is situated within walking distance (5 min most) of the Women's Cave (Pestera Muierilor) which is a nice touristic attraction.
On top of it all we appreciated the hospitality of the staff. We felt very welcome and comfortable and we wished we would have spent more than just 1 night. it is without a doubt the place to spend a nice relaxing holiday. Highly recommend

We stopped to eat after visiting the Muierilor cave. The waited a long time for the drinks only, even if the restaurant was not crowded, and many dishes from the menu were not available, we had to change our order two times (pizza, deserts). The traditional food was good.

Since travel is my favorite thing I decided to explore a new part of Romania and also take my extended family on a trip. I picked this location and motel in a heartbeat. It is lovely, unique by position, just in front of one of the most beautiful caves and a very nice construction. I am generally enthusiastic about the places I pick and appreciate when people show interest and pride in their property. Too bad Pensiunea Tobo has very poor management. The owner is friendly but totally uninterested in his clients .
The staff is very aggressive and non accomodating in any way. We asked for a few things but never got them.
My husband did not want to have breakfast buffet therefore he was not allowed to stay at the table with the other seven guests and had to wait in the room. I ended up by paying buffet for all eight of us anyways.
The rooms need a lot of repairs, the couch was broken and the bathroom shower needing repair. The good thing is that they had another room available so we did not need to sleep in the couch. The lights are very bad througout. I stumbled at the entry and my 72 years old mother fell over some stairs she did not see.
When we left no one was there so we just left keys on the reception desk.
I did give it 2 stars because if the charming appearance and geographical position. Management and maintenance need to improve though in order to bring this property to a good standard.

Tobo Pension is a good choice, restaurant with nice terrace, cafe place , nice view, rooms with balcony; good food, good service, clean place! There are a lot of things you can visit in the area: Polovragi Cave, Polovragi Monastery &many others monasteries. Horezu City is not that far away, where you can see& buy traditional ceramic. We had a good time in Tobo Pension thaks to the warm people that work there.

Bucharest

This summer of 2017 was a nightmare for Bucharest and also other large regions in Romania. Temperatures were often overreaching 40 degrees. Usually people in Bucharest go to Valea Prahovei to take some days off in the mountains to avoid this terrible heat. We said, let's get rid of the crowded areas and take the Gorj county for a mountain escape.
The region is superb, quiet and fresh air, away from the noise of the big cities, people leading their cows and from time to time a car passing by. A lot of nice monasteries as well.
The pension itself looks nice. It was a bit of bad luck for us as we asked for a room starting with the day of Monday the 4th of September, but the landlady said she could only give a better room from Tuesday and if we could go somewhere else for one night or take what they have. We said ok, we take what they had. The room number 9. It is a small room, equipped with a TV set, a large bed, a small table, two chairs and a bathroom with shower only. We only found a single reading lamp, but the main problem was that in the bathroom there was a bad smell from the sewage. Only after some water was flowing it was possible to get rid a bit of that bad smell. The bathroom was so small that the toilet is located next to the washing basin and oriented to the right side of the basin, very narrow space. Maybe we had more luck if we waited for Tuesday instead of Monday - we noticed they also have at least two double rooms (suites). We also tried the breakfast room downstairs (as the breakfast was not included in the package) and surprise...one day we asked for a simple omlete with cheese and two cups of tea. The lady took the order and after half an hour no one gave any sign that something moved. She passed again through the room and we asked...something new with our omlete and she "oh didn't they bring it to you?" I want to mention that the breakfast room was empty, only we were the ones who ordered something. But I realised that the management of the hotel wants to have this business with small costs and big profits - they only have young people (probably high school pupils or maybe students on vacation) who help with reception and serving for breakfast. So, no more comment about that. In rest, the location of the hotel is 800m to the Women's cave, the well known natural cave and superb sightseeing together with fresh air and quietness which make one to forget about the small drawbacks about the pension/hotel in case it is about a short staying. They also have a Wifi which is acceptable and free of charge.
