We came to this hotel for a wedding and it was the only one what had rooms available. There must have been a reunion in town. We were Leary at first when we pulled in. The outside isn’t very inviting at all. Once we went in and checked in we were pleasantly surprised. The lobby looked bright and updated. The staff was friendly and check in was quick. Once inside the room another surprise. The room was clean and updated as well! Carpeting, furniture looked new. Tv was a smart tv with a lot of stations bathroom was good size. Shower was old but it was still good. However there was a drawback. I left for Walmart later in the day and when I returned our door didn’t want to latch shut. We tried and tried . Looking at it it appeared someone tried to break in. We immediately notified the front desk and within minutes a man came and temporarily fixed the issue so the door would close and lock again. But we were getting the feeing he was blaming us for the damage. We had to leave for a wedding so we didn’t have time to deal with him right then. He did say he would have the cameras checked. We returned later in the afternoon and asked if they checked and saw anything. She had to call him and ask. He said nothing was found and than she proceeded to say well did you prop the door with the deadbolt? Same thing the maintenance man asked! And we said a firm NO!!! We did not try to break into our own room!!! So there better not be a charge for it. On main point we also want to make is the side entry doors are NOT locked during the night…!!! Anyone can just come in at any hour of the day or night. Another security issue is when people in front of us were checking in the front desk would say aloud the room number . I work in a hotel and that’s a big no no. We were trained to say here is your room keys with your room number and wi fi code.. Breakfast ok just cereal and toast and waffles with coffee and juice. Rooms .: walls are thin I hear my neighbors tv on Kids running the halls around midnight and slamming doors… Hard to say if we will be back to this hotel.…
We booked this venue for our stay while attending the Devil's Run June 3-5, 2022 Rooms were left as if someone had not cleaned them. There was tooth paste on the bathroom sink faucet, the toilet lid was missing, foot prints on the toilet seat, the room was moderately clean. The bedding had stains on it. We were given the opportunity to move but the alternate room was no better.
Worst place I have ever stayed. Came to Devils Lake for a funeral service. Inconsiderate staff. Complained about noise. Nothing was done. Toilet wouldn’t flush. Nothing was done. Only stayed one night even though I paid for two. They refused to refund after checking out because it was past 3pm. I looked at the clock it was 3:15. Checked in to a different hotel and they offered us a bereavement discount.
I picked this as it was relatively cheap and I was only passing through. It was clean and everything worked but I felt like I had stepped back in time a bit (though not far enough for vintage/retro vibe). The room was spacious with a couch as well as the bed but I found it a bit oppressive – it seemed dark even with all the lights on. That said it was a practical place to stay for one night. The bed was comfortable but the sheets were very thin. Pillows were ok. Spacious breakfast area with hot and cold food.
Clean comfortable rooms. Breakfast was kinda lame so we went to the Cedar Inn next door. Recently renovated rooms. Friendly helpful staff. The towels could be replaced. Other than that we have no complaints and would stay again.
Beautifully remodeled, but lacking customer service. Went out for breakfast at 930 Sunday morning and there was no food to be found. When we asked about it she said breakfast was over at 9. Another couple was there and pulled up the website which clearly states breakfast is from 7-10 on weekends. I politely asked if she could put some waffle batter out for us, she said that she already dumped it and would have to mix up another batch ( I'm pretty sure that it comes in premixed bags). I then mentioned getting some milk for the cereal......nope! Customer service 101 ..... when a small act will keep people coming back, you do it !! Had to go to McDonald's and get my family breakfast when it was supposed to be provided...... Nice hotel, but won't be returning.
We required an overnight location to spend the night. We chose Sunlac Inn, Devils Lake, from the Expedia directory as the price fit our budget. Check-in went smoothly; room was clean, spacious and as advertised. Small fridge was an added bonus for us. Good selection of TV channels for evening watching. AC worked but Wi-Fi did not. Not sure why Wi-Fi did not work in our room as we were the closest room to the front desk. Tried several times without success to obtain internet access.
You can do better. Our room smelled stuffy, like someone had been cooking in it. The parking lot was gravel, and the ice machine did not work. Others staying at the motel said the ice machine had not worked for days - which is always a bad sign. The morning breakfast was skimpy and inadequate. Pick a nicer place even if it costs a bit more. That's my advice.
At first appearance, this motel doesn't look like much but it's been almost completely renovated & is a super value! They cater to fishermen with boats. The two drawbacks for us were no blowdriers in the rooms & no breakfast (to speak of). Also, they could use new towels & bed sheets but hopefully those are coming soon!
It you have low expectations, this place is suitable. The building and room is old, but comfortable bed and cheap room rates. Fine place to stay is all you need a roof over your head for a few hours of sleep.
