We spent several nights here during a short trip to the area. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the room clean, comfortable, and quiet. Guests are offered two free drinks and a complimentary supper each evening, along with a free morning breakfast. A very nice gesture! We had other plans, so could not avail ourselves of the evening goodies, but we did try the breakfast. Unfortunately, it was not all that good. Tepid scrambled eggs, potatoes, and sausages served out of a crock pot didn't really meet our expectations and we took our breakfast elsewhere the next day. However, the rooms and friendly staff certainly merit a try to the traveler seeking a nice, welcoming place to spend a night or two.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fireside Inn in Devils Lake! The staff were very friendly and helpful; the room was comfy; and what's not to like about a coupe free drinks in the hotel guest lounge and some excellent lasagna! Great place to stay during our family get-together!
So, we drove to Devils Lake for a memorial service and reception for an old neighbor who died during the height of COVID. We use to live in Devils Lake from 1989 to 2000. We arrived at the motel at 3:00 pm. (Check-in time) We needed to be at the cemetery (3:30pm) and reception (at 4:00pm) but needed to change clothes after a day of driving. As we arrived at the front desk, we were told that the hotel was short staffed and our room was not ready. We asked when they thought the room would be ready and they (two gals at the front desk) advised they didn't know. (Rudely!) I asked if we were talking a few minutes, and hour, today, tomorrow... and they said they didn't know and explained that they were the ones taking the brunt of having to tell everyone that there rooms weren't available and they were having a bad day! Not knowing what to do, we left to go sit in our car and figure out our next steps. After a few minutes, I went back in and asked again about a timeline. They said it would be ready in 15 minutes. So 15 minutes later, we checked in. We unloaded our luggage and went to our room. We quickly showered and changed clothes. But upon looking at the carpeted floor in front of the luggage storage cabinet, my wife knew something bad was going on. In the bottom of the luggage cabinet was the outline of a litter box that had previously sat there and all in front of it on the floor was cat litter and chunks of "poop". We looked at the rest of the carpet closer and noticed toe-nail clippings, cat litter, and other debris all over the floor. Very bad! Obviously the room had not been vacuumed or cleaned from the last occupant who must have had a cat and had a litter box in the luggage cabinet. Disgusting! The bed did appear to have new sheets and there were new towels. I went to the front desk, but there was a line of 5 people who were waiting to check-in who were getting the same story about their room not being ready because of a lack of staff. It was not a happy situation! Rather than waiting in this line, I went and found a housekeeper (a very nice young girl who was more than helpful) who accompanied me back to the room with a vacuum. When she saw the situation, she was actually almost in tears. She cleaned up the mess and apologized multiple times. We rushed off to our funeral reception having missed the cemetery ceremony and got to the reception late. We stayed and visited with old friends and had a good time. After getting back to the hotel and remembering what condition it was in, we slept terrible knowing how dirty the room was (not just the carpet) and wondering what we might catch from being there. Obviously, if they didn't even clean the carpet, what COVID 19 treatment would have been done?? The next morning we checked out early being ready to get out of there. The desk clerk asked how our stay was and I explained everything that happened. Sorry was all they said! One was somewhat sympathetic but the other could have cared less! And the breakfast buffet was really strange too. (We didn't stay to eat) If you wanted more bacon of other specific parts of the breakfast, you had to take your plate to the desk, and the desk clerk would get you a limited amount of bacon from an aluminum tray behind the counter! Strange! We should have stayed at one of the bigger, nicer, chain hotels in town, but went for the lower price and thought the local hotel might be nicer and more quaint. Boy were we wrong! In this case, you absolutely get what you pay for! But for 108.00 dollars (after taxes), you would expect it to be at least clean. It was not!…
We spent 3 nights here and for the most part ok. 1 issue of concern we came back from dinner 1 evening and a gentleman was opening our door. Our room was double booked! I was compensated for the error, but this should not happen. Staff courtesy and breakfast ok. We typically stay in motels such as Holiday inn express, or Hampton inn class. We found this a close enough match, less money, to be considered a place to sleep.
Very good location. Staff was very friendly and Helpful , Specially Carlos. Breakfast and Dinner were excellent all included. The rooms are clean, with all the amenities. Queen beds are smaller than average.
We had a absolutely wonderful time staying here!! Sarah the receptionist at front desk was so very nice and on the spot helpful with all and any questions or concerns we had !!! Which made for even more of a completely comfortable stay !!! We already made reservations for next weekend family trips!! Thank you Sarah!!! And Fireside for a great stay❤️
We stayed here for a funeral. A lot of family came from hundreds of miles to attend. Location is convenient. Staff was friendly especially grandma in the bar room. She was excellent. She came out to the breakfast room where we all gathered every night we were there and let us know she was doing last call. That was the Friday night we were there. On Saturday was another employee who closed the bar minutes before 10 so we went to redeem our tickets and the door was locked already. Kinda disappointed. But overall everything else was great and we will return!
Not modern, but nice and clean. Beds were very comfortable. Staff was super friendly. Our room was quiet. Breakfast was mediocre, but I blame covid restrictions for that. The pool is definitely not heated, as the description says-the hotel needs to change the description or heat the pool!!! One of the poolside rooms had 19 people coming in and out, and most were swimming-so maybe the hotel needs to monitor how many are staying in their rooms a bit better.
Work brought me to Devils Lake and my co-worker picked were eh stayed and his choice was excellent! We were very well cared for by Grandma, Shelby, Sara, Darren, Callos, and Ruth!! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would stay there again!
Love this place, they really know how to treat a guest. Grama is 1 of the funnest bar tenders I ever have had the pleasure of drinking with. The drinks, the dimner, good solid breakfast, best bang for you buck
