For the money spent, the suite did not live up to our expectations. This resort, while it has been remodeled, is still in need of some TLC. Our suite still show signs of its outdated past in the bathroom areas, a ceiling was stained/,molded, chair arms needed cleaning and the king size bed did not sleep like it was made for a king. We also noted some guests were not wearing masks just outside their rooms in the public corridors and some ignored signage to wear a mask as you came up from the beach.
We did a last minute on line booking at the Shell Island Resort. Our room was fine for 2 adults and a child. The kitchen utensils were a bit skimpy but fine for a weekend. If you plan to stay longer, I would suggest asking what exactly is in the unit. The nice thing is every room faces the ocean. It is a beautiful property right at the end of island. The temp was colder than usual but we did manage a short swim in the indoor pool. The wide sands and end of island make for lots of beach area to explore, relax and play.
Beach was lovely. Pull out couch was no surprise terrible terrible, room not updated in who knows how long. Indoor pool cover needed repair, bathroom ceiling broken. Worst part though was Covid precautions. On different occasions was served by a waiter and bartender without mask in place, clients in elevator without mask, staff and managers interacting without mask. Will not be going back under any circumstances.
We paid for a Premier Room. Supposedly newly renovated. I think not. We didn’t see anything that looked remotely “premier”. The room and patio were dirty. We actually bought a broom and cleaning supplies while at the store. See pics of the beach. In our room.......Elevators stunk and it looked like the same rugs in there for the entire stay. Filthy. When we first checked into our room it had a mini fridge. We had a weeks worth of groceries. The description said refrigerator. Not compact fridge or mini fridge. I went downstairs and they said that was a special request. They did reassign us to another room with a standard fridge. We had no bedding for sofa bed. They brought us sheets that were as old as I am and a blanket with a big hole in it. And I realize sofa beds are not known for comfort, however this bed was the worst. Thought it would collapse every time I got in or out of it. First shower was a joy when we found the last guests wig still in the drain. I can’t even. I could go on but these are the highlights. Never again.…
Outdated. Our room was not cleaned thoroughly. Still sand everywhere. We paid extra to have the updated suite. But it was still outdated and dirty. No amenities, cheap poor quality soap etc. Old furnishings. No breakfast. Due to COVID the gym was closed. They also don't clean the rooms during your stay, so our hotel room was covered in sand. You had to bring your towels down to get new ones. COVID I guess so I didn't dock a star for it? But that hasn't been done at other hotels I've stayed at during the pandemic. I wish we would have done the Holiday Inn. Great location but lots of other options that are just as close to the beach. If we are being completely honest, this place sucks :(
