GREAT spot. Nicely appointed, updated and spacious rooms. Perfect location within walking distance to over a dozen good restaurants in W-S. Attentive front desk. The building is gorgeous. Its totally out of the hotel's control, but just be aware, the trains are rolling through at all hours, and those whistles are LOUD. But overall, this has to be the nicest hotel in W-S. Highly recommend!

Just returned from a weekend in Winston Salem. Kimpton suites are very spacious and well appointed. The staff lives to "serve" you. You are treated in a royal manner. Very gracious check in process. The parking valets are eager to assist with your coach. We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant and it was a pleasure. NC grilled trout was very tastey. Very reasonable pricing. Its a short stroll to many street cafes and craft beer stores, Dont miss it.

I travel to Winston-Salem often, so have the chance to be a frequent visitor of the downtown hotels. Prior to the Kimpton Cardinal, the only real choices were the Marriott and the Embassy Suites - both of which were nice but getting tired. The Kimpton came in and upped the game - and both of the other properties have done likewise. In addition, the new Indigo is also a nice new option, which just opened a month or two ago. Despite this new competition and the original hotels upping their game, to me the Kimpton is still the top choice if you want a really nice hotel experience. In my initial time when the Kimpton opened, there were some ups and downs as the staff learned, and for a while I gave the other choices a try. Well, this week I returned to the Kimpton, and they have clearly upped their game. The staff - with a special shout out to Rydonaus and Johanna - were awesome and responsive. Food at the restaurant was excellent, and when I had a small AC issue with the thermostat the response was immediate to correct. Rooms at the Kimpton - unlike the Indigo - have a mini bar (although the Indigo has coffee makers... perhaps a plus for them..) and the whole property I think did an awesome job with maintaining the character of the old Reynolds headquarters. I will be back!

Dear KWS53, Thank you for reviewing your stay at The Cardinal! We're thrilled to see you've found your home away from home here with us. In addition to morning coffee in the lobby, we have coffee makers too! Please request one through the front desk and we'll deliver a Keurig to your guestroom straight away. I'll be sure to share your kind words with Rydonaus and Johanna - we can't wait to have you back. Best, Kelly

Have stayed at the Cardinal 15+ times, all with good experiences. Long-time Kimpton Karma member. Tonight, was denied my confirmed room reservation for an incoherent reason from a flustered guy at the front desk. Something about "the AC." Meanwhile, while he's trying to find a room for me a customer next to me -- at The Cardinal for the first time -- gets checked in. Was "walked" off to the horrible Marriott with a piece of paper. No offer to assist with luggage, the car, etc. Nice hotel, but a bad experience. I'll give them another chance in the future.
