Detailed Reviews
After a horrid experience with the first hotel we had booked, we chose this hotel on a whim. I am so glad we did! In the 15 minutes it took me to book the room and for us to arrive at the hotel, I was pleasantly surprised to find our room was already prepared/ready when we arrived!
The woman who checked me in was so friendly and empathetic when I told her how we had wound up there.
Our room was in the back area of the hotel which is one of the reasons I gave this only four stars- even wearing earplugs I could hear the motorcycles roaring by in our room. The walls were thin and there were some minor cosmetic flaws. Breakfast wasn’t anything fancy, but our son was thrilled with a bagel and fruit! Also only 1/2 cards were activated, but not a huge issue.
Everything else was amazing! There were luggage carts right at the door once you walked in by the elevator. We didn’t know this, but utilized them this morning. The room featured two queen sized beds, plenty of places to plug in devices to charge, had quick Wi-Fi, and fluffy pillows. There was a nice sized mini fridge and even a Keurig style coffee maker (we don’t drink coffee, but it was a nice modern touch!) Shower pressure was AMAZING! Water was plenty warm and the shower had shampoo and Bodywash pumps inside!
We did have to go down to the front desk for extra pillows/towels, but did not mind this. I wish we would have had time to check out the amazing pool!
Checkout went smoothly and the morning front desk lady was very friendly and pleasant. We will most definitely be returning next time we’re on vacation!

My husband and I along with our 2 young adult sons stayed here for my daughter's college graduation. It was one of the hotels recommended by the college offering discounted rates for graduation and was closest to the stadium.
The staff were helpful. I did have to get the key cards reset for our rooms because they didn't work when we tried to enter after checking in. I left a pair shoes there and they did contact housekeeping, but were not able to find them.
They served breakfast to go in a bags because state regulations don't allow their usual breakfast.

I like this place. The prices are lower, the rooms are clean with a fridge. Unfortunately, they have closed off access to their balconies, which is standard in hotels these days. WiFi is fast and strong. It is a 15 minute nice walk to downtown and the restaurants.
I also like their substantial free breakfast. But during this last visit, it was closed because they cannot hire anyone to staff it. The 'bag' breakfast was a joke of a water bottle and energy bars.
In the meantime, it would not be hard to stock a fridge with juices, milk and cereal and make coffee, but I realize that in these times, being short-staffed is an issue.
But they should remove 'free breakfast' from their website and put a note on the door to the dining room so people like me don't show up for breakfast in the morning and become disappointed.
I will likely return, but next time plan in advance for someplace to eat in the morning, or bring my own.

As a frequent traveler all across the United States, I have stayed at many hotels, both upscale and regular facilities. To find a hotel in a city near a big highway for less than $100 a night is very unusual nowadays. Unfortunately, this is a clear case of "you get what you pay for."
We had 2 rooms. We were there for a couple of nights during the week. The room key magnetic cards kept on failing, the safe in my room did not work, there were splotches of unmatching paint in the hallways, there was chipped paint on the door frames, there was a smell both in the hallway and in my room, the elevators are dingy, and there were other issues. There were no USB charging ports in the room to charge up our cellphones. The main entrance, because of the layout of this hotel, is the back entrance. Alas, when we first entered, there was a woman smoking a cigarette on a bench next to the entrance, about 5 ft away from the "no smoking" signs. She did not seem to be ruffled by our presence.
I did not get to try the breakfast, but the people with whom I was traveling did try the breakfast, the continental breakfast, and did not like it very much. You can get a hot breakfast for an extra $10 per night, something which we did not try.
When you arrive in the back parking lot, you notice that there are balconies for most of the rooms. As the hotel is sort of situated on a hill, this offers the potential of a view from your balcony. However, all of the balconies in the hotel are sealed off, presumably because of the coronavirus crisis. Why they have not reopened the balconies now is unclear.
One of the few saving graces was that the staff were friendly. We actually ended up checking out a night early because of what we uncovered about this place.

Stayed at this hotel for a few days in early August. Many of the reviews of this hotel mention how dated the place is and that is certainly true. Cleaning was average in the room. Not bad but not particularly good either. Bathroom was well cleaned however. I wiped down the baseboards, surfaces, and walls myself for a noticeably fresher appearance. The Covid 19 bag breakfast given out in place of the hot breakfast was disappointing. A bottle of water and a few packaged snacks. Pool area was nice but no towels available at the time. Be sure to bring your own. Good location within walking distance of downtown. Not a bad hotel for the price but you quickly see why the room rates are on the lower side. I notice the management responds to these reviews and I like that. The only downer I may have on the management response is that most of the flaws in the property are readily apparent and should not take complaints from the guests to address. I'm no expert on hotel construction but it appears to me this hotel could be renovated into something very nice with some investment. The location is good for downtown access. This hotel is about as perfect an example there is for you pay for what you get. Not bad but.......

Two hrs into the drive to the hotel after I called to request a room near elevators, they returned a call saying the $69 × 3 nts rate confirmed 3/25 & 10/10 would total $755+ (more than 3x the quote) unless I had "paperwork proving you're actually working during your stay". I'd never before been told those words by Hawthorne or any other hotel. Even with my 3/25 email staff said "corporate" told them how to deal with the customers & rates. Shocked & dismayed at the handling of this debacle I was put in a horrible situation, as local hotels were full. They did offer the quoted rate for the 1st night but with no other resolution, I was basically forced to check out the next day. Others checking in got the same or similar rate hikes. Some who hadn't arrived weren't informed by the hotel in advance but according to the staff, all but about 3 people had been. A friend was given a rate of $69 x1 & $199 x2, still lower than the option I was offered. Another person checked in finding they were given the wrong room type & was told the hotel was over sold. Hawthorne made no other effort to rectify my situation. In all my years of traveling, this was the worst hotel service blunder I've ever experienced. I even felt for front desk staff facing the other affected minorities & seniors with reservations. Furthermore at those prices their free breakfast was bagels, muffins, coffee & juice.

Dear Anonymous, I apologize for the unfortunate experience you had during your stay. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused due to the pricing discrepancy. Our aim is to provide excellent service to all our guests, and we understand your disappointment with this situation. We spoke to about 19 people coming in for homecoming who booked state government rates on the weekend. We notified them that unless they had paperwork, we could not honor that rate. Some people did provide documentation, but the majority did not. Our regular price per night during this city-wide event was $359.00. We offered all guests in this situation a $199.00 per night during the effected nights if they did not provide documentation which in total was over $300.00 off of their stay. I appreciate your understanding. Hawthorne Inn Management

I needed a place close to the hospital and my daughters college for her surgery. Hawthorne was the closest to both, almost within walking distance to both.
I reserved our room for our stay in advance, in which I received an early bird discount. We also received another discount since we were there for the main purpose of the hospital. Due to other circumstances, the day before we were to check in, I needed to check in a day early. They were very understanding and accommodating and still gave me the same rate. The day of her surgery, we realized that our room was not going to be as accessible as we thought, so we needed to change rooms. Again, Hawthorne was very understanding and accommodating and moved us into a more comfortable room for her with no questions asked. On day of check out, we needed a late check out due to having to wait on our transportation, and again, very understanding and accommodating, no questions asked. The entire staff from Check In all the way to Maintenance were AMAZING! They went above and beyond to meet our needs, help us with my daughter and her wheelchair, and made us feel so welcome.
The room was spacious, extremely clean (the entire facility was immaculate), and the beds were very comfortable. The pool area was beautiful, although closed for the season. Due to Covid, they did not have the Continental Breakfast as listed on their website, but did have a "Grab and Go" bag with coffee and afternoon tea in the lobby area.

My wife and I attended an event at the Benton Convention Center in early Sept. and was referred to the Hawthorne because of the proximity and reasonable price. As we were heading to our room we noticed an unpleasant smell that persisted after we went into the room. We called the from desk to request a room change. When we got to the front desk we spoke with Fred who not only found us another room but he upgraded us to a suite which the only comparable room available. We were extremely appreciative of how quickly and hassle-free Fred made the process. Thank you Fred! More folks who service the public can learn a lesson from your actions. 💯👍🏾

Unfortunately this hotel has not been cared for as we expected. It had a neglected air about it. We had a 2 room suite on the conference floor and stayed 3 nights. It had dried spilled food in the carpet that housekeeping had not bothered to clean. The furniture was chipped and the sofa cushions were compressed so that we felt like we were sitting in a hole. The air vents appeared not to have been cleaned in years. The vent in the bathroom right by the tub at head height was black with filth. Also women should probably bring their own shampoo and shower gel as the hotel offering had a distinct men’s frangrance. The continental breakfast was spare with only muffins, toast, bagels and apples, no milk. For an additional $10 you could get a hot breakfast that most hotels offer on a steam table. It is definitely an economy hotel. For its size we expected better.

I made and confirmed my reservations in March 2023 for October 20 and 21, 2023. The room rate was $69 per night at state government rates. These rates only required me to show my government ID upon check in with a 24 hour cancellation if I decided not to use the reservations. On the morning of October 20, 2023 I received a call from the hotel manager stating that the hotel would only be honoring state government rates if I had proof that I was on a business trip. I stated that this is not what the website states and that I had these reservations since March 2023. I had called on October 19, 2023 to check on my reservations and nothing was stated about having to be on a business trip. Upon arrival I was given a room rate of $199 per night and was told that I had to have cancelled my reservations 72 hours before arrival and I would be charged a cancellation fee. Two colleges were having homecoming that weekend and they decided to do price gouging. I will never stay at this hotel again.

I think the breakfast buffet starts at 7 a.m. I must say the food is very good. Checkout is at noon. I would contact the hotel directly and just ask them the time of their buffet to make sure. I want to say it went until 9 or 10 a.m. I was there for work and had to be on the road by 8:30.
Thank you for your question. Sorry I missed this one. We do have a pet fee of $20 per night for the 1st pet and $15 for the 2nd. Pets must be below 50 pounds.

Fort Mill, South Carolina11 contributions10 helpful votesI see from some of the reviews that you have to bring in your luggage from the back of the building and that includes several stairs. I cannot do stairs (lung problems) and certainly cannot haul luggage up any stairs, especially my concentrated air unit. I booked a suite for next week which I was told is on the 7th floor, will I be able to get help getting my things from my car up to my room?
Good Evening, We absolutely have a stair free loading entrance. and Handicapped Entrance with parking available. Our Front Desk will be happy to direct you. Carts are also available.
