We can't recommend this bed and breakfast enough! We truly enjoyed our stay and getting to know Janice (hostess) and Wilmington. Janice was very kind and took very good care of us. The Suite is stunning and full of books and history. The sitting area is just big enough to relax, the bedroom and bathroom are HUGE, and the front... More

My husband and I came from England to stay here. I'm glad we did. Janice created a home from home with her books, painting and beautiful sitting room, bedroom and bathroom. All in the historic style. She made us feel totally at home and was a true B&B ie the owner was on hand and it was her home not... More

Joyce the owner is very caring and made our stay absolutely perfect. The French House is just beautiful in every way. Close to all amenities - convenient parking meant we didn't use our car during our stay. We walked wherever we wanted to go. Shady porches invited us to sit and watch the world go by. A true delight.

Just returned home after a lovely stay in the cottage behind the French House B&B . The location was perfect and this little house has everything you could want and more ! Portia made booking easy and Janice made the visit extra special , dropping of scones and other goodies . We could easily walk to restaurants and the river... More

With a last-minute decision to go to Wilmington (from Chapel Hill) to be with a friend having surgery the next day, I stopped ~100 miles away to call several possible places hoping to find reasonable accommodations. On a whim, I started with a B&B -- I'm convinced I was meant to reach Portia! When I explained the purpose of my... More

My husband and I just stayed at the French house for the second time. The house and hospitality were just as charming as we remembered! We stayed there previously for two nights (May 2012) with our infant son right before my husband deployed, and Janice was tremendously gracious. She serves a lovely breakfast that typically doesn't involve hot foods (tends... More

I stayed here for the Cucalorus festival this year and was more than pleased. Janice is warm and welcoming and thought of everything I could have needed. She left a nice fruit tray and ice water for me when I returned late from the Festival and I awoke to a huge breakfast tray outside my door the next morning. It... More

My husband and I stayed at the French House last weekend. This B&B far exceeded our expectations. The room and the whole house were beautiful. The owner, Janice, is very warm and welcoming and obviously loves her house and wants her guests to have the best experience. We arrived late at night, and far from seeming inconvenienced, she greeted us... More

We stayed in the cottage because we had 2 kids with us and were thrilled with the decor and comfortable beds. The claw foot bath was great. Janice and Portia were so friendly and helpful and yet completely laid back. They had to leave early in the morning so they brought breakfast to the cottage and made sure we had everything... More

We just returned from a stay at this wonderful B&B. It exceeded our expectations on every level. We had the French Suite and I really did feel like I was sleeping in Provence. The room was large with a huge, beautiful bath & claw foot tub and vanity. The bed was comfy and it was nice and cool on a... More
