Let's just say I'm great at USING Tripadvisor...but terrible at posting reviews after the fact. This is a long overdue review of one of the most beautiful spots I've ever visited. I travel a ton...for work...for fun (actually, it's ALL for fun). In late October, my husband & I rented a Harley and explored the Smoky Mts only to stop... More

The Swag is a country inn sitting in the mountains adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at 5,000 feet elevation. The accommodations were first class within log and wood construction. The food was excellent and plentiful. All of the staff were efficient, very friendly, and on top of everything. Hiking in the park and on the property was... More

We went for Thanksgiving, and we could not have felt more welcomed or more at home, except they did everything for us, including unloading our car! The food was the best, and it was more than bountiful. Our trip was capped off with about 6 inches of snow, which only enhanced our visit (although I don't think they really had... More

My friends and I went to The Swag for lunch hosted by Dan & Deener Matthews and it was fabulous. The cabins and the experience was just fabulous. The hospitality was the best of all! A beautiful day in a beautiful place in the mountains of western North Carolina.

From the moment we pulled up to the front door, they took our bags to our room, parked the car and gave us a full tour, it felt like I walked into another time. You choose your meal for that evening and the next days picnic lunch. Then you are informed to pick your walking stick that you take home... More

From the time you ring the button to the gate and traverse the last 2 miles up the mountain to the Swag you are indeed in a special place that you are being allowed to enjoy. Everything is easy to find and the event schedule is on your door each morning. The dining was outstanding from the breakfast buffet, to... More

I booked a 2 night stay at this fantastic resort simply to "get away and enjoy the mountains". I am from the area originally, but had just recently heard of The Swag, so I thought I'd return to the area and give it a go. If you like a rustic cabin look with luxurious amenities, excellent food and service, a... More

I cannot say enough good things about this little Inn in the Smokies. What a lovely place to relax and get away from the busy, electronic world in which we live. I understand there is a TV in one of the rooms and I believe there is another one in a common area. Otherwise, no TVs. I have cell service... More

My wife & I just completed our third stay in two years at the Swag, It's hard to use the expression third times a charm because we were charmed from the first arrival at the Swag last June. WOW what a place. Your cares melt away and you become family with Deener, Dan and the rest of the Inn Guests.... More

The Swag has been one of our absolute favorite places for many years. The folks do such a fantastic job making us feel at home. Every cabin and room is a different but unique treat. And the meals...lets just say if we could have them fix all of our meals we'd be there forever. Don't miss this place.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Swag is an award-winning, romantic hiking hideaway now in our 35th season. On 250 acres at an elevation of 5,000 feet, The Swag shares a common border with the Great Smoky Mountain National Park an hour's drive west of Asheville in western North Carolina. The Swag's very private setting provides inspiring views, peaceful hikes, birding and relaxation. The property's main buildings were constructed of century-old hand hewn logs and from it's mountaintop front porch, guests enjoy a 50 mile panoramic mountain view to the east and south. ... more   less
