Elmwood 1820 Bed & Breakfast Inn

Since 1820, Elmwood has remained the crown jewel of style and sophistication of the "original" Washington with its eye-catching Italianate detailing and eclectic features. Now a privately owned residence operating as a luxury Bed & Breakfast Inn, Elmwood 1820 continues to share its beauty with people who were born to wander, find adventure, explore, and seek respite in the most unique and curious of places. Although Elmwood 1820 has ornate detailing, it's not a "period piece" decorated with unconventional and uncomfortable furnishings. It is a gracious home, embodying a very transitional, diverse style representative of its magnificent history, as well as the many adventures and world travels of its owners. There are four guest rooms: The Writer, The Painter, The Explorer, and The Romantic. Each representing characters inspiring the Innkeepers over the years; friends, family, and spirits making them the men they are today. All have modern comforts like Luxurious Robes and Plush Turkish Cotton Towels; Goose Down or Hypoallergenic Down Pillows and Duvet; Wi-Fi; American-Made Eco-Friendly Amenities; Turndown Service; Complimentary Sparkling or Still Water and Organic Snacks. They are havens with massive beds dressed in soft canopies, lit by sparkling chandeliers, and adorned with fresh-cut flowers. Gourmet Breakfast prepared and served each morning.

You can just imagine what this mansion was like with a family and a ton of kids running around. The boys, Richard and John have lovingly restored and maintained everything old and added what was necessary to make life luxurious. Their culinary talents are evident in the

We celebrated our 48th anniversary by treating ourselves to a two night stay at the Elmwood which we had seen on a PBS NC Weekend show. We wanted to explore the history of the area and stay in a historical home. What a beauty this home is. It has "been" through a lot yet

We have stayed in a number of bed and breakfast inns but never one like this. Everything about it was outstanding! As we walked up the first steps from the street, our immediate reaction was "Oh my goodness, can you believe this?!" It is among the best restorations we've seen.

Wanda, we’re very sensitive to pet allergies and we have a no pets policy at the B&B.

Hi I would like to book a room
Is this pet friendly?
You'll need to call the owners. If they allow it small dogs that could be carried up the stairs might do okay. I wouldn't take a larger dog.

Is this pet friendly?
I don't know but something tells me no. I wish they were. I'd love to take my 2 very trustworthy farm collies with me. What pet do you have? You may want to ask if there is someplace/someone nearby to watch your pet for a night. Full disclosure: Richard is my half-nephew. That being said, my husband and I paid (full rate) for a night there and it was a wonderful experience! Richard is a great cook and he makes fabulous breakfasts. If you show up same time as me, I'll dog sit for you. I have a camper so I can stay off site. Maggie
