My husband and I were traveling to the Outer Banks and we were looking for a place to stay with our 2 shih tzus. It was rare to find a BNB that was pet-friendly, but Island House sure was! Jeanne was a wonderful host, delicious breakfasts, and made sure we were comfortable. We love to travel with our puppies and... More

We had three nights at Island House and each day the place grew on us. We had a warm welcome from Jeanne and as we were at the start of the season we were the only guests ( not for the first time on this trip). Our bed room was large and comfortable, especially the bed. We slept well. Breakfast... More

We stayed here in October 2002 right after our honeymoon. I had not been to the OBX in over 24 years prior to this. The owners were very helpful in guiding us toward the sights, recommending restaurants, and offering up directions for public access at the beaches. The house was painted yellow then and I *think* they had a Portugese... More

This B&B needed some updating. It was beautiful on the outside and I enjoyed the grounds. However, the breakfast was not my idea of a home cooked meal. It seems most of it was prepackaged. It was less expensive than others in the area.

Had a great second visit at the Island House. We love the secluded setting and beautiful gardens. The breakfasts are great-tasty and filling. The owner/staff are very helpful. My husband loved the fresh tomatoes from the ground's garden. He wanted to take home one the darling puppies that the owner (breeder) showed us. Look forward to a third visit.

If they had Trip Advisor 14 years ago I would have written this review then bc it's been that long since we stayed here! It was a fantastic weekend! The inn keepers were hospitable, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere welcoming. We've talked abt staying here again if and when we make it back to OBX!

My wife and I just returned from staying four nights at the Island House and we really enjoyed it! The house is lovely and well decorated and the gardens are stunning and well kept. Breakfasts were great, and Jeanne and her staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable (plus we enjoyed chatting with them at breakfast!).... More

When we booked our stay, we were very excited to be on Roanoke Island and left very happy that we chose to stay here. Jeanne was great, and even nicer to our pup! We didn't have any problems with any bugs, and the mattress we stayed on in Willie's suite was probably nicer than our bed at home! We love... More

Unfortunately, we recently stayed here hoping to leave refreshed. The owner is aware "that some of her mattresses are too soft". How about concave? The itchy bug bites are another matter. Breakfast was ok but would have preferred not to have the owner present and sharing her problems every single morning. I hindsight, we wish we had cut short our... More

I just found this review. I am puzzled, I have never had a complaint on this mattress quite the opposite, most people find my beds very comfortable. The house is treated monthly to keep bugs at bay. We do live on an island and there are bugs, therefore the treatments. I am most sorry that this guest had a dissapointing... More

We stayed only one night, but thoroughly enjoyed it. The grounds are very nicely kept. The house itself is immaculate, filled with all sorts of beautiful antiques and memorabilia. We were in Zena's Room, on the second floor, with private bathroom (shower). This one has an antique oak bed with feather bedding, and complementing antique furnishings of the same quality.... More
