We had an incredible experience at Mast Farm Inn. We arrived late on a Friday, had many offsite activities planned on Saturday and a snow storm came in on Saturday night which meant we had minimal interaction with the front desk staff but we were made to feel welcome
and still felt so taken care of bc of the many touch points. Not only did the team email and call to check on our travel and arrival but they also text messaged us to make sure we’d arrive aware of where to go and what to do. The staff had already headed out before we arrived but she set us up for success and has excellent communication. We also received prompt reminders of breakfast(not over doing the messages. It wasn’t annoying).
Coffee basket at out door first thing in the morning was such a nice touch. So cozy.
Velva was amazing and so energetic first thing in the morning. I think we’d come back just to see her. Felt like a family member was taking care of us.
Breakfast was amazing. I will say, if you’re dieting or have dietary restrictions, so mention that ahead of time and I’m sure they’d do something special for you. The breakfasts were heavy. We don’t restrict ourselves while on vacation so we enjoyed it all. Bananas Foster French toast, homemade oatmeal, homemade biscuit with eggs cheese sausage and potatoes. Everything was fresh and so good.

We had dinner at Over Yonder(highly recommend) and then came back to enjoy drinks at the bar served by Chelsea who was very attentive and friendly. Drinks were great!

Our room/bathroom was clean and a very good size with a sitting area(Nells Room). The bed was huge and comfortable and we got the best sleep. The room was pretty warm and we slept with the window open both nights and that solved the overheating problem. I’m sure the old building is hard to keep regulated.

We had a great stay, loved how quiet and cozy the slave was and were impressed with the customer service even when it was a snowy weekend probably with less staff. We certainly didn’t feel like anything was missing.
We can’t wait to come back in the summer!

I stayed at the Mast Farm Inn with my wife and daughter from Dec 27, 2019 until January 2, 2020. We found the Inn to be wonderfully charming and comfortable, and conveniently located for our outdoor hiking and skiing activities in the nearby mountains. We especially appreciate the efforts of Jesse, Velva and Eric in making our stay at the Inn great. Two noteworthy daily features at the Inn included a very rich two course homemade breakfast more worthy than that offered by The Ritz, and an afternoon social hour snack, with delicious Fig Butter on homemade bread, and homemade drink recipes, with a cheese display, homemade cakes, and more. And not to mention the 27/7 availability of homemade cookies, cakes and coffee/tea on the main floor.... You could not find a better more historic, more charming Inn if you tried. Bruce S

I can't sing enough praises about our stay at the inn. The attention to detail, the small personalizations that were added to our room and the overall friendly and lovely demeanor of all the staff that we ran into made this a truly wonderful getaway. We are already trying to plan our next visit. Do yourself a favor and book a room - you won't be disappointed!

We had four people staying in The Granary cabin in March. Although it was cold outside the heat in this cabin is full on. There is also a wood burning stove for which fire starter, kindling, and firewood is supplied. You cannot get better ambiance than snow outside looking into the horse and donkey in the corral with a fire in the stove. We enjoyed the selection of puzzles in the closet and did not miss TV at all, in fact it was a plus not to have it. We did not take advantage of the DVD's but could have.
Breakfast is pleasantly served and delicious as is the afternoon happy hour. Velva is a gourmet cook and baker worthy of five star restaurant status. I love talking with her as she shares her baking techniques and history of the area.
Jesse remembers us from past visits and has never failed to make our stay pleasant in a very personable way.
We will be back, again and again and again.

I want to start this review with a little history. I've visited the Mast Farm inn three times. Two with the previous owners and once recently. It's very different for several reasons. The food has changed drastically. We had such variety, beautiful plating, attention to detail with the prior chef. It appears as they have hired a less experience cook and we had basically bacon and eggs every morning in different variations. We had poached eggs that came out hard boiled. The portions are very small now. Also when we were sat before we had the most adorable print out with history about the house, local area and things to do that was addressed to us every morning. That doesn't happen anymore, it's those tiny details that make a place standout. They also on Friday and Saturdays have decided to open the bar up to the public. Well this brings a different crowd in and we had people all over the grounds viewing the property. It takes away from the quiet exclusive feel of a bed and breakfast. We pay a premium at Mast Farm Inn for the beautiful property however the food is half the name of Bed and Breakfast in addition all this tiny details mentioned above. It has changed I'm afraid not for the better and unfortunately we will not return. If you have never visited I'm sure you will love the grounds this again is someone that can compare from the previous owners.

Hello, Thank you so much for your long history with the Mast Farm Inn. Our new chef began at MFI when he was 14 and the previous owner and chef, Marie, saw something in him and began training him to cook. He loved it and under Marie's arm he became a chef and eventually left MFI to cook in Florida. When we purchased, under Marie's recommendation, we called him and he decided it was time to come home. So, we're proud of him and so are the previous owners. If your eggs were over-cooked or you wanted more food, we are always happy to give you more food or make an adjustment. Most people tell us they can't eat again until dinner after our decadent breakfasts, but again, we're always happy to provide seconds or cook your eggs to order. The previous owners are actually the ones who stopped the print-outs and they weren't in use when we purchased, but we can take a look into the older files and see what we can find. Perhaps it's a good idea to bring them back? We will take a look. Lastly, our guests have long asked for the bar to be open in the evenings and we're so excited to be able to do that. Unfortunately, in order to have a bartender available into the evenings, we have to find a revenue source for that expense, as guests drinks alone can't sustain that cost, so inviting the local community into our house has been the solution. There are locals who live next door to us that have been in Valle Crucis for decades and never been inside our house. We've found that these new customers and old neighbors have been a warm and welcoming addition to our guest experience. The locals have certainly enjoyed meeting guests and enjoying the house, and most of our guests have returned the sentiment. Thank you for your comments and for visiting with us. We understand that change is hard for everyone. If you don't visit again, we still wish you well and are grateful for your presence in our house. All the best to you.

I just returned from a midweek getaway at The Mast Farm Inn. It was very relaxing and peaceful at the inn from the moment I stepped through the front door, with soft music playing in the parlor. The self check-in was easy and staff quietly did their work in the background during my stay. I loved the period furnishings throughout the inn. I stayed in Miss Allie’s room, which had the most comfortable bed I have slept in for a very long time. Thoughtful cookies and a handwritten note welcomed me upon arrival. The towels were plush and there was a separate shower and claw foot tub with herbal bath grains to enjoy. Coffee and an assortment of teas were available to prepare in the room. I highly recommend a stay at the inn and plan to return there again soon.

First and foremost, the stay was excellent. We stayed in the Granary Cabin. We actually arrived later than we had expected to (after hours actually). We let the Inn know of our delay and their staff were still very accommodating. They made sure we got into our rental easily. The cabin was very clean upon arrival and very well prepared for our stay. Since we arrived at night, we had no idea how beautiful the location was until the next morning...and it was gorgeous. The grounds were very well taken care of! Breakfast was great, very fresh and delicious! Service during our stay was awesome. Each of the staff members we met were very friendly and easy to talk to. They made us feel very welcomed and answered our questions clearly. In the cabin, an information binder with "things to do" in the area was very helpful. The binder also had a brief history of the Inn! An interesting read! Behind our cabin there is a shallow river that our kids played in and they had a blast! Also, there are horses nearby and our kids loved to pet them! The horses did not object. The best part of our stay is huge for us. Usually when my family goes on vacation, it is hard for us to leave all the stress behind. There is always a tiny bit lingering when we decide to go somewhere and relax. Our stay at Mast Farm Inn is our first vacation in which we did not have this "lingering stress". The property is truly located in a peaceful, scenic location that brought a much-needed break to our routine and calmness to our hearts. We truly enjoyed our stay at Mast Farm Inn and we highly recommend this location to anybody who is looking for a getaway in the mountains.

There aren’t enough words to describe how amazing this place is!! Cannot wait to go back!!

The original cabin was built in 1810 and is still used today (Ask to stay in the Loom House for this one). It’s the oldest cabin in North Carolina where people can still spend the night. Inside the farm house itself, it’s exactly what you would want a farm house inn to look like. I fell in love instantly. We stayed in Nell’s Room. The bed was so comfy and their bathroom amenities… use their products, they smell so good!

And the FOOD!! Y’all, it was better than any restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. My husband even voluntarily ate spinach 🤣 They worked around my food allergy without hesitation. Chef Cody is amazing!!

The barn on the property was turned into an outdoor family area where you can sit and enjoy the pretty country/mountain scenery with an on-site var service. They have board games or you can bring your own. Also, on the weekends they have live music. There’s even horses and goats for you to pet.

And, nighttime front porch sitting while watching the lightning bugs come out and the nearby neighbor shot off their leftover fireworks over the barn. It was beautiful 🥰

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway, this would be my recommendation. But, plan it in advance because they stay fully booked

We stayed one night at The Mast Farm Inn. Picked it based on reviews and pictures. We stayed upstairs in a king room. This is a really really old property. It is very historic. I appreciate all the care involved in restoring this property. Check in was very nice and the receptionist was really very good. She gave us a nice orientation of the features of the property. When we walked into the bedroom we immediately liked the ambiance and the colors and the attention to detail of the restoration. The bed was a 4 poster and was very comfortable. The furniture was very interesting. Things kind of went downhill when we opened the wardrobe and saw the bra hanging from the hook on the door left from the last guest. The only thing that I really did not like about the room was the bathroom. The leaking drops in the ceiling were an issue. The bathtub was an old clawfoot tub with a bad paint job sitting on wooden blocks with a curtain around the tub that did not fit. For over $300 per night I expect a nice well done bathroom. The bathroom was a bad one star rated room. The grounds around the house were nicely mown but the buildings seem to need lots of restoration work. Breakfast was nicely done and tasty.

Dear Rick, Thank you so much for staying with us and for your comments. We think our receptionist, Kelley, is just a delight. We do apologize for the clothing left behind! How alarming that must have been for you. We immediately spoke with housekeeping and have some additional checks in place to ensure that doesn't happen again. Yes, we've had to squeeze some "modern" tubs into some rooms that were never meant even to have a bathroom and the process of sourcing both comfortable and period appropriate furniture has been quite the challenge. We're quite alarmed to hear about leaks from the ceiling. If we'd been notified at the time, regardless of the hour, we would have been over immediately to check on it. Yes, the age of this house is both a blessing and a curse. After your review, we've been investigating and haven't been able to replicate the problem but we are watching for it. Thanks for the feedback. We hope to have the chance to see you again and perhaps make you happier the next time!

We stayed in the Woodworkers shop and outside was very rustic but once inside all our needs were met. Staff made a number of last minute accommodations and my birthday cake was fabulous. The chef is amazing as we got the package with 2 dinners and 2 breakfast included. It’s a beautiful area, nice little walking park on river near by and Mast General. Loved the goats and horses. My only feedback is the outside porches and chairs could use a wipe down.

Hi Susan, Unfortunately, we do not have an elevator in our facility. There is a ramp for the wraparound porch to get into the common areas of the Main Farm House for breakfast and our social hour. All of our rooms are located on the second and third floor; however, most guests with mobility concerns prefer to stay in our one level cottages such as Gazebo or Maple Spring.
