Got to return here after 15 years as I was cycling the Fabulous 4th event. The place was not in the same condition as last time. It appeared dated and could use an overall facelift. Has potential. I'm sure the lack of travel during the pandemic hurt them like all other resorts.
My wife and I stayed here 15 years ago and have been wanting to go back now that we've moved back to the upstate. I'm glad we only booked one night, because it appears nothing has been done to the rooms in the last 15 years. Yes, it's a very old inn, and the workers are super nice and helpful, but a simple can of WD-40 would do wonders at this place. Opening the door to our King room probably woke anyone who may have been sleeping in the building. The toilet didn't want to flush, and in the middle of my shower the showerhead decided to stop working (I had to splash water from the tub faucet on myself to get soap off my body). All that to say, the biggest disappointment was the fact there was no hot breakfast available. I understand that hiring is difficult now, but if a 'bed and breakfast' isn't going to serve breakfast, they should probably let people know before coming. Serving cereal and yogurt and giving a very small credit to our account wasn't worth it at all. If the innkeeper is planning to keep this wonderful inn open and running (and wants to charge $200+ per night), some serious work needs to be done to get the inn up to standard!!…
I left a neutral 3 star review, after trying to call for over 4 hours with no response and being sent to voicemail every time. As a result, I get a call from the owner who cancelled my stay because of my neutral or “negative” comment, as he thought. He did not have any care as to why I commented that. He just automatically assumed the worst and cancelled me, based on the fact that he got a “negative” review. This is completely unacceptable business! I was truly looking forward to staying at the B&B, but as a result of his complete and utter lack of care for customer service and attempts at customer satisfaction and improvements, I will NEVER stay at this establishment!!! Buyer Beware!!!
This was my third stay at this establishment. After we booked, I saw some of the reviews on here which worried me - but I didn’t need to be. They called before we arrived to tell us that the restaurant was closed and no hot breakfast- I already knew that but it was nice of them to tell us. They contacted us via text to tell us that our room was ready. It is a historic place but is still very nice. We stayed in the rose room which is a king suite with fridge and coffee maker. They also provided complimentary sodas and water. Everyone working there is extremely nice, friendly and helpful. They gave us sheets of the restaurants in the area and made suggestions which were spot on. We did miss the restaurant but do understand that COVID has changed things here - hopefully next time it will be open again as we have enjoyed the dinners and breakfasts in the past.…
Hard Fail. Maybe historic, but definitely dilapidated. Anniversary getaway, looked for something a little more romantic than a Holiday Inn… pictures on the 1906 Pine Crest Inn website looked right for a couple nights. Trip Advisor billed it as Fitzgerald and Hemingway stayed here… if they were still alive, they’d be issuing a cease and desist. Definitely not worth $215/night. We checked out early after one night. “White Oak” room in “Oak Cottage” looks like the walls were re-paneled in 1960, and the furniture was bought at a thrift store in the late 1990’s. Crappy Celotex ceiling tiles, rickety bed, worn out mattress, lava lamp-esque effect from the spider web in the lampshade, chest of drawers missing huge knob, wobbly toilet seat, crappy shower head, furniture looks like it was purchased at a garage sale, entryway to cottage reeked of mothballs, no GFI outlet in bathroom and an electric heater right beside the sink… and breakfast is basically a supermarket granola bar in a box. Basically, the room looks like it should be rented by the hour rather than the night. Should have sprung for the $359/night at the Grove Park Inn, or $368 at the Village Hotel at the Biltmore Estate. 364 days to get it right next time……
While this place is quiet, perhaps because very few other people were there, and relaxing, it looks shabby. There is a lot of deferred maintenance. The room was nice, but it was also home to some termites. Breakfast is essentially non-existant since the restaurant has closed. What was provided was a box containing an apple, yogurt, a Nature's Valley bar, a tiny roll, and 10-15 grapes. It was pathetic. Very little imagination or effort could have improved the "breakfast, " such as it was. What bnb stands for at this place is bed and bill. It is very overpriced.
We had heard about the Pine Crest Inn over the years and were excited we finally were getting to stay there. The reality was a huge disappointment. Granted we were traveling with our dog so we never expect to get the best room but... The cottage smelled like mildew, the ceiling had cracks with water stains and the blinds had to be closed by each individual blind. I had put down a water bowl for my dog and the next morning a big bug was enjoying a swim. It is sad because you can tell it was once a relaxing, pretty place to stay. Somebody needs to invest a lot of money into the property to bring it back.
My husband and I stayed here for an anniversary getaway. We loved the history surrounding the inn, so my husband made the reservation and the room was around $200. They gave us a room in one of the first cabin buildings on the right side as you approach the main Inn. We’d reserved a pet-friendly room as we had our small cockapoo with us. The room was worse and less updated than a Red Roof Inn. The furnishings were not antiques, but rather looked like leftovers from a 1980’s living room -and not well cared for either. The bedspread was from the same era. He requested a jacuzzi room and it ended up being the size of a regular tub. It was dark and tucked behind the door of an already cramped and windowless bathroom. The bathroom really was tight for even 1 person. My husband requested a new room. They put us into a suite w/in the same cabin building. The space was nice as it had a vaulted living room w/an inviting, rustic fireplace and separate bedroom. The furnishings were again, less charming than they were just worn and outdated. I didn’t feel comfortable going to the bathroom, let alone taking a shower as the bathroom backed up to a separate street w/ houses and the window blind was broken and wouldn’t close... Breakfast was served the next morning in the main inn. Very charming, rustic dining room, w/ gracious server but only one option for breakfast. Since I try to stick with more protein than carbs, the French Toast offering, while delicious would’ve been very problematic for a diabetic. I don’t mind paying $200+ for a hotel room, but they need to update a bit and make sure basic things like window blinds are in working order if they want to charge what they’re charging. …
This “inn” is a compound of musty cottages, no longer charming, but just need a lot of work. Any guest can see the sagging roof, exterior rot., and peeling paint. The online pictures and video portrayed a better image. Our king deluxe room had a tacky shiny bedspread. We had a pleasant front desk attendant and left after breakfast.
I booked Stone Cottage 3 beds/3 baths on 11/16 for 11/18 - 20. After driving 5 hours, we discovered the glass doors in the Cottage did not lock. I told Jennifer & she said they were aware the lock was broken but not to worry because the deck outside the door is high off the ground & it should be OK. I told her I didn’t feel it was a safe situation. She said the Inn wasn’t booked & showed us other rooms. None were comparable. Jennifer called Carl & he said he’d have the lock fixed the next day. I called Tuesday & he said the lock was being fixed. I told him we were settled in the Red Horse Inn and due to the inconvenience it would be to come back I’d appreciate it if he could refund my deposit of $576 since he was aware of the broken lock & it is his responsibility. Carl said he had to think about it. I called & left messages. Carl said he was with family so I apologized for disturbing him & he said he’d call me Monday/Tuesday. It is Wednesday, 11/27 so I called & Carl said he didn’t decide. I politely told him I gave enough time to decide & he said he has a lot going on with 5 children. I told him I’m posting a review & he got loud saying I’m threatening him. I told him its not a threat. I’m putting this frustrating situation in writing so people can see how he does business. He told me that this made his decision & hung up on me. I called back & no answer. I left a message saying how unprofessional he is. The Red Horse Inn, Landrum has gorgeous rooms & breathtaking vistas!…
