The Bed and Breakfast is steps away from the best shopping and restaurants in Southport. The hosts truly made us feel at home. Breakfast is amazingly delicious. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. We are looking forward to our next stay at this B&B.

Captain Newton's Inn is a lovely comfortable location with gracious hosts, wonderful breakfasts and staff (Chef and Housekeeper were both delightful). Complimentary wine and cheese, beer and soft drinks were a real plus. Easy walk to good seafood restaurants.

First of all, let me give you a little background on us. We travel professionally and leisurely multiple times a year and we try to stay at B&Bs as often as we can. Over the years we’ve stayed at over 30 B&Bs both in the USA and abroad. Captain Newton’s is a beautiful house in the wonderful little hamlet of Southport, NC. Walking distance to all the fun shopping in the village, the location is perfect. The house itself was built circa 1886, and is wonderfully maintained and decorated for each season; Thanksgiving & Christmas time now and warm fire and the Christmas tree, in your mind you want to be here on Christmas Eve because of the atmosphere and decor. The rooms are lovely, warm, with nice bathrooms. Beds, linens, and towels are just like you hope for when you travel! The pool and spa are a great place to unwind during your visit. Come hungry for breakfast! Home cooked and eye catching spread, as you sit down and greet the other travelers staying there. A truly wonderful experience. In addition, candy is splashed in graceful dishes throughout the house, and in the afternoon, wines and cheese are provided ( on the house ), to start your evening in town. This is our 5th time coming here, and I know you’re wondering why I haven’t posted a review before! Perhaps I wanted to keep this wonderful home to myself? Now I’ll tell you the primary reason you will be thrilled with your stay, and why my wife and I have come here so often! When you ring the doorbell, you will be greeted like close personal friends & family by Lisa and Hugh! They are two of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met and they graciously open up their home to you. Hugs and handshakes and sincere concern in making your stay “perfect!” Treat yourself and make two new friends. We did many years ago and we’re friends for life. We shall return very soon!

This is the best review ever. I actually teared up reading again. We feel the same way. You both are like sunshine. Knowing how much you travel makes your kind words even mean more. The detail on the little things we do were very much appreciated. We try to go above and beyond. Oh, please visit one day again. We miss you already. Take care and safe and healthy days.

We so enjoyed our stay - loved the bed, loved the shower! Our room was so comfortable. Location is perfect; just a block to the waterfront, or many charming Southport shops in the other direction. The second floor porch was wonderful! We especially enjoyed sitting on the porch at night - even in the summer heat there was a nice breeze. Watching the palm trees blowing in the wind, listening to the chimes from downstairs...heavenly. Everything about the Captain Newton Inn is lovely - Lisa couldn’t be nicer - she clearly loves being an Innkeeper and is one of the best. We hope to return next summer and this time stay longer...two nights just wasn’t enough at this lovely Inn.

The moment we walked into the beautiful living room at the historic Captain Newton's Inn, Lisa greeted us warmly as if we were old friends. She gave us a little tour of the inn, including the lovely dining room where we would enjoy sumptuous breakfasts the next two mornings. She also provided information about Southport as well as a handy map. Our room was very comfortable, tastefully decorated and peaceful. There was a swimming pool in the back where we could relax after a day of sightseeing. One of the best parts about our Inn was its location. We could literally walk to all the interesting sites listed in our Historic Southport self-guided tour brochure. We started at the Visitor's Center, then continued on to see The Garrison at Fort Johnston, the beautiful waterfront park and lighthouse and ended up enjoying a full afternoon strolling the tree-lined streets of this charming little town. Back at Captain Newton's Inn we relaxed for a few minutes, enjoying delicious refreshments Lisa had set out in the dining room. We were so happy to find that our lodging was walking distance to several delightful restaurants, so we did not have to use our car to head over to Oliver's for dinner. Southport is very well situated to visit nearby attractions such as Fort Fisher, which was available by ferry - a charming excursion which we really enjoyed. We also visited nearby Oak Island Lighthouse. Our stay at the Captain Newton's Inn was brief but absolutely delightful! We loved the comfortable room, fantastic location and especially the wonderful breakfasts each morning. Tina and Alice spoiled us with gourmet food, beautifully plated on a table set with fine linens and fresh flowers. Of course, we are already looking forward to another stay at Captain Newton's.
