I was lucky to spend 5 nights at the Ruark Inn last week. The Inn is beautiful and Linda and Rick made me feel so welcome. Rick gave me a terrific tour of Southport with his famous golf cart tour. It was the perfect introduction to this charming town. They were also kind enough to take me to the car rental place about 15 minutes away so I could pick up my rental car. I used Uber to get to the Inn from ILM because my flight came in late. One of the reasons I chose the Ruark Inn (in addition to the terrific reviews) was because someone in a past review mentioned that Linda is a realtor and was helpful in their relocation. The purpose of my trip was also to look at Southport as a possible place for us to relocate. Linda was fabulous. I immediately felt comfortable with her and she knows the local market very well. She facilitated everything and made it easy. Both Rick and Linda know so much about Southport I was able to get many questions answered quickly. They also were helpful in identifying local resources - and places for dinner and other things that made my time in Southport so enjoyable. Breakfasts were wonderful and Rick adapted each breakfast to my needs. There were a number of very interesting other guests during my stay and we had several fascinating discussions! I stayed in the Charlotte Room and it was perfect. Home away from home. The bed was amazingly comfortable. Thanks so much Linda and Rick for a great stay. Thanks in large part to you both we will soon be residents of Southport!…
We have stayed at the inn several times and always find it most accommodating. Lind and Rick are always there to help and serve us. We will definitely be going back. It is a quiet atmosphere and we always meet other guest at breakfast in the mornings. Breakfast is always delicious.
We love visiting Rick and Linda. The Inn is so quaint. The breakfast is delightful and Rick’s tour of Southport is amazing! I highly recommend you visit! The town of Southport is a gem. Everyone is friendly And there are many places to shop and eat!
We stayed during new years eve. The B&B offers a perfect location for visiting Southport. The owners make every effort to accommodate their guests and to provide a welcoming atmosphere. The B&B is cozy and comfortable. The breakfast is substantial and very well done and delicious, too. Afternoon wine and snacks are provided, too. The rooms , though small, offer great privacy and are comfortable. The common area is well stocked with books. There are rocking chairs on the porch as well as a comfortable potion with gas fire pit for outside sitting. Bicycles are available to use as well.
I highly recommend the Robert Ruark Inn. The location is perfect and Rick and Linda are wonderful hosts! From the home-cooked breakfasts to the beautifully decorated and comfy rooms, I will definitely be returning!
This was my second time staying at the Robert Ruark Inn in the last year. Happy to say that since I last visited (August 2018). The quality and cleanliness has not changed; so clean! Rick and Linda are so kind and welcoming, and they remembered my mom and I from our previous visit. Rick gives a great tour of Southport as well. We plan to visit again next summer!
What a terrific stay: simple yet elegant. Our hosts were very cordial but also hands off allowing you to enjoy their Inn without interference but always available if needed. Our room was well stocked and very clean. Linens were fresh and breakfast was delicious. Ricks golf cart tour, no charge, around Southport is not to be missed and was a highlight. Make sure you ask for the Virginia room because the shower is a experience you shouldn’t miss!!
Loved our stay! Spacious beautiful room, perfect location! Easy walk to the waterfront and all shopping and dining. Linda and Rick were very welcoming and served a delicious breakfast. Can’t wait to visit again! Love Southport and love this Inn!
We were in Southport for a wedding and booked a room at the Inn. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner and his lovely wife. The Inn was so comfortable, the decor was beautiful the rooms were clean and breakfast was provided every morning and cheese and wine in the afternoon. The inn had a tour of the town and offered bicycles for our pleasure. I really cannot say enough about this lovely Bed and Breakfast. We had a wonderful time and will return.
The Robert Ruark Inn and it’s Innkeepers, Rick and Linda Pukenas are treasures. This historic home has been lovingly cared for and exudes welcome from the moment you set foot on the rocking chair front porch. The rooms are quiet, well appointed and the beds are heavenly. Breakfast is a delight with fascinating guests, some who come to speak at the Southport Maritime Museum, all seated around a sumptuous table set in bygone elegance. It’s just a short walk to the Norman Rockwell-esque downtown or to the ocean. It’s a convenient 5 minute drive to the Bald Head Island ferry. What’s not to love?
